Ranaru had hesitated a bit when voices chimed into her ears, should the dragons have been broadcasting for all the others to hear, her mind not sure she liked the sound of another voice in it that didn't belong to Ranask. There had been two dragons doing the addressing, once which was a fine Blue that Rana found herself already a bit fond of. She liked his color at least, not knowing his personality, and she patted Ranask on the head as a mental growl rose in her brain. He did not like this, he did not trust them. This was not safe.

We should go. It is not safe.

His thoughts were starting to become a little jumbled, almost frenzied, and Ranaru forced his personality down with a command to stay where he was. He was not allow to venture any closer to her as she moved to be with the boys, and he would need to follow her request. The Wher whined piteously as he watched Rana walk ahead of him, but he obeyed with eyes turning yellow. Still not safe, not right at all.

"I see you were right about that, and you are also right about them being small. They're rather cute, don't you think? Like babies."

She meant no disrespect in her words, still just marveling over the size of these dragons from the other Weyr. Rana didn't get much interaction with the riders here thanks to her not having a craft many of them needed, but it was hard to miss the large dragons they all cared for. These ones, while clearly not babies like she had said, still seemed so small and infantile compared to the large beasts Ghenza sported.

"Their Gold is lovely though, what a sheen on her. The Blue as well."

"Yes..it was." he whispered back to Jetta leaning into that hug before glancing up at the dragons once more.

Helios' face glowed like a small sun with a cherubic smile that continued to dance upon his lips. He was practically giddy when the blue spoke and then the gold! "Yes.. yes.. What are your names? Oh this is wonderful! It's a pleasure to meet you both. We've been so busy with studies we didn't know when we get to meet you."

He addressed them like he was speaking to any human being because he was used to dragon chatter rather than silence. "I hope you don't mind talking to us. All the dragons that live around here like to talk to people so when we were told that you wouldn't we had to come see for ourselves. But you seem to be able to talk just like the others." he chattered along cheerfully. What luck! For once the older folks were just plain wrong. While he didn't think they were right all the time anyway, it was nice to have some proof for a change.

"I agree with Ranaru...You certainly both look like you're riders have taken fine care of you. Is it true that you sleep in caves rather than in fields?" I've never seen a cave big enough for a dragon ever!" he asked with curious delight. Of course, his idea of a dragon was a bit bigger than these and he then pondered if there might be caves big enough for Ghenza dragons. Probably so because green weren't the largest but what about their gold or bronze colors? That might be a different story.

He was still rather surprised at their smaller size and wondered how they progressed that direction. Maybe it was just due to breeding and he wondered what would happen if a ghenza bronze got hold of a gold like the one before him in time. Would it bring about medium dragons? Or a mix? He was ever questioning about these sort of things and thus his great interest in dragon healing.

Hello, Sharath, said Nachith, dipping his head to the gold before turning his attention back to the strangers. It did not bother him terribly to speak to others but it was...new and strange, and he likely would not have done it without his rider's urging.

They are being very talkative, Mine, and asking questions. Maybe you should come here? That would certainly be easier.

I can't, Nach - I'm working! Just talk to them, alright? You guys seemed all set on proving yourselves the other day, so do it.

The blue sighed, but did as he was told. B'ram did make quite a bit of sense on occasion. 'I am Nachith, and our queen is Sharath.'

'I've never talked to anyone but Mine before, but he says that I should talk to you, so I will,'
he explained. 'Yes, we sleep in weyrs. They are much more comfortable.'

Nachith, for his part, didn't mind being called cute, or even small. He was a blue, after all, so he had no business being big. All that mattered, really, was what greens thought of him. As long as they thought him handsome, he was satisfied. Not that he knew what Ghenza's greens thought of him, but secretly, they probably admired him. After all, how could they not? He was the best blue they'd ever see!

Sharath nodded back to Nachith when he greeted her and rumbled in agreement when he introduced them both, raising her head proudly when her name was spoken. The orange in her gaze, however, became more prominent as she was called small, cute, and like a baby. It irked her something fierce and a displeased rumble came from deep in her throat. Does my size mean so much as to be a point of insult? Her gaze had settled on Ranaru then as she lowered her head to be on par with them. Even being small for a gold, her head was easily the length of the boys' entire body and her teeth at least as long as their fingers.

She tilted her head as she shifted to come up even with Nachith, standing by his side, I have spoken to Others before, when needed. Your minds are not Mine's and I prefer Mine's. The queen nodded again when she was complimented and even offered a small draconic smile, though she did not speak any thanks - the Wher's irritation was obvious enough that it was irritating Sharath.

Rising once more, she moved nearer the twins and Ranaru and arched her neck so it was obvious she was regarding the Wher. You act like Jounoth. I will not hurt Yours. Nor will Nachith. Calm down. It was obvious she had little patience for anyone who thought negative things about her, or her clutchmates. No harm would come to these children.

Jetta let his twin handle the chatter so that he could release him from the warm hug and inch his way closer to the dragons. After all he had heard that Ghenza dragons differed vastly from those beyond the safety net of their community but he had never realized quite how much.

Like his twin he was truly fascinated, you could tell age mainly by two things in dragons, size and shape, obviously hatchlings tended to be more dumpy and unsure, growing into weryling hood when they became long limbed and awkward as they attempted to grow into their own proportions, yet his mind told him that these dragons where allot smaller than their more mature shapes said they should be, it was odd, two pieces that had never fit together till now.

Still they were beautiful and he wanted to touch, investigate ask them about the care and diet their riders had provided them with, did they use a particular type of hide oil to get the shine to come out like that? Maybe it was living in caves, so many questions, but the voices of dragons distracted him again. No matter how many times he heard it the echoing words inside his mind always caught him a little off guard.

He grinned at the blue "ohh, wouldn't you rather sleep on soft grass and earth than hard stone, you shouldn't knock it just yet, you know me and my brother sleep in the forest all the time when we go looking for herbs and plants for medicine I bet we could show you some really nice places to sleep, all the dragons sleep in there anyway when it rains, the whers to sometimes." he explained, the blue seemed a little shy and withdrawn, it was cute. "I bet its just a case of getting used to something a little different to what you're used to." he told him encouraging taking the liberty of reaching out and delivering a reassuring pat to a blue foreleg that he was now able to reach....ohhhh, smoother than Ghenza dragons guess thats something else living in a cave did.

He liked the blue better because he seemed the less sure but now he turned his attention on the Queen, And stuck his tongue out at her "Don't be such a stick in the mud." he told her with a following grin, this time bounding across the small space to stare up at the queen, completely unafraid and actually still having a great time. "Don't have to get so defensive about it, you certainty have the attitude of a some of the golds I've met thats for sure. No one was saying anything bad about your size so don't take it out on poor Ranask." he scolded although it was delivered in what could be considered a mock and playful manner. Extending a hand in perfect imitation of his mother when she got angry at them and told them off for one mischief or another he even put on a little of her voice for his brothers sake. "No one was insulting you, in fact quite the opposite. " That said he moved back towards his twin, maybe seeking his support encase the gold did choose to argue back, not that he needed it, but it was nice to have.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 23, 2010 5:57 pm

"Jetta, I will not warn you again to stay away from the dragons. If you go near them one more time without their riders being present I will have Ranask carry you back, be it out of your free will or not."

Ranaru frowned, the first time since she'd encountered the boys, and she crossed her arms to show she wasn't really joking. Rana wasn't the type to be in a bad mood, at least one she showed to others, and from the way things were continuing on she knew it would be in her favor to keep the children from heckling these dragons further. They may not be able to hurt them all, yes, but that didn't make them any less dangerous. Not all wounds were physical.

When the Golden dragon started to address her wher almost instantly Ranask started to send feelings back, ones of pure distress, and slowly he started to move towards where Ranaru was despite having been told to stay specifically where he was. His eyes were a deep yellow, his fear becoming very real and echoing a bit in her bones. It was easy enough to dismiss, her command coming back to him just as strong to stop walking, and he stayed where he was.

"You'll have to forgive Ranask, he's.. . .not quite as bright as most of the whers you will find around Ghenza, and he is only acting out of concern for me. As for my remarks, none of them were meant in disrespect towards either of you - I happen to be fond of the size you are. I like small things and find you fascinating."

She really hadn't meant anything else, but Faranth forbid these dragons were so touchy!

Helios nodded when Nachith answered, "Wow. So we're the first other people you've ever talked to. I feel honored." Then continued after Sharath was done speaking. "Dragons around here talk to everyone. It's just like a big family. So it seems really strange when you say you only talk to your rider. I find it's easier to help a dragon out when they tell me what's wrong." He scratched his head wondering why these dragons were so introverted in that regard.

He would have continued his conversation but it seemed like Sharath was a bit concerned about the Wher. He looked back not to worried about the gold moving in so close. He wasn't even concerned at all when her head came down not to far from him. It only gave him a better view of her sleek golden skin. "I bet keeping a shine that bright takes a ton of oil." he murmured under his breath even as his brother touched the blue he was downright tempted to touch the gold but he refrained being polite to their dragon guests. Although after his brother mentioned how smooth the blue's skin was that temptation made Helios bit his lip pondering between 'want to touch' and 'want to be polite'.

"That's not fair, Jetta." he said with a small frown even as Ranaru scolded his twin so he shuffled from toe to toe trying to keep his hands to his own sides. At least he hadn't done anything but still these dragons did look smooth and as close as he was to the gold he could tell, her skin was very nice! Like a shiny jewel!

Heartily agreeing with his brother, he tried to get past Jetta's one up before he got himself into trouble with Ranaru, "The forests are beautiful at night too. You can hear the rustling of the leaves, watch the stars and sometimes hear the sounds of dragons grunting in the forest as they stretch out."

Even if Jetta were trying to get support from him, Helios wasn't quite ready to give it although in a pinch he might change his mind. Although later Jetta surely would be teasing him about the blue's fine flesh. So he continued his conversation because he didn't want jealousy to ruin such a fine opportunity, "So what's your home like? What do Dragons and Riders do where you come from? " Any words of the lands beyond was intriguing because they only heard what they were told so many times about how awful things were out there. Really, Helios wasn't quite sure how the elders could be right about that. How long had it been since anyone left Ghenza...or visited?? Well here..these small dragons and riders were a first.

Nachith did not mind at all when one of the young ones touched him, and was actually somewhat offended when the wher's keeper warned him off from doing it again. What was she insinuating, that the dragons from High Reaches were dangerous? They weren't! Although Jounoth was far from pleasant, he had to give them that. 'You are welcome to come close,' he said, contradicting the older human, 'I do not mind. It is nice to not be ignored.'

'Our weyrs are very comfortable,' he went on to explain. 'They are not dirty like fields, there is no grass to poke us, and we are always warm and dry. If we want to see the sky, we can go on our ledges.'

When it came to Sharath, well...she could handle herself, so he left her to it. It was terribly disrespectful for someone to stick their tongue out at a queen, but he was certain she could and probably would tell him that herself in some fashion. It was not his place to do her scolding for her.

As to what they did at home, that caused him pause, and he had to stop and consult with his rider, an exchange that would take a few minutes.

Her head jerked back as the boy stuck his tongue out at her and her eyes narrowed, not taking kindly to his chastising her. I am taking nothing out on the Wher. He is nervous - needlessly so. Do I look like a brute? The flash of teeth was not subtle as she snaked her head towards him, chasing the twin as he sought his brother out for support, If no one is insulting me, then why is size such a topic to speak of? Why do your dragons call me runt, even your Greens. How is it the opposite if it is meant as an insult?

She rumbled loudly, clearly displeased with being called small or anything remotely similar.

Ranaru's comments distracted her, and drew her attention. The gold rumbled in a semblance of a draconic laugh, Your Wher is not stupid. He is like Jounoth... possessive of His. The Whers of High Reaches are... not as smart. There is something different here then there... I am fascinating? She seemed pleasantly surprised by that.

To Helios, she nodded, Mine does a good job. Says I outshine even your giant Senior queen. Smug confidence and pride in her rider was unmistakeable as the gold preened, proudly arching her neck. Dragons run the Weyr. And their riders. The Senior Queen rules the dragons and the one to catch her in her last Flight is the lead Bronze. Or Brown. His rider is the Weyrleader. They lead everything, the Wings, the function of the Weyr, and the welfare of the Weyrfolk. One day I will be Senior and the Weyr will be mine. It was obvious from the way she spoke, that she fully expected to gain Senior queen at some future point.

She didn't encourage the touching, however, even eyed Helios as if daring him to reach out without her permission. She might speak to Others but she would not be touched by Others. Only Hers could do that.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 24, 2010 7:06 am

Grinned back at his brother "It is to fair." he retorted "I was only giving him a friendly pat." he teased knowing how frustrated his twin might get over the matter, although before he could attempt any real teasing, Rana cut in. He rolled his eyes and waved at her "Don't be silly they're fine with us here." he retorted finding is smirk only widening in 'I win' mode when Nachith backed him up.

When the gold snaked her head towards him after the scolding he jumped, hell you would if someing that size came that close toyou but he ignored her in favor of continuing his conversation with the blue, take that missy bossy britches.

He cast pale blue eyes onto the smaller dragon "I think you're really nice and gentle Nachith, I bet you just get outshouted allot of the time, but I think your really friendly I bet we could be friends, I want to meet your rider to. I tell you what, me and Helios will show you the very best places in the forest to sleep, you can bring your rider of course, but here is a small rocky platu towards the river just covered in soft moss, with the trees overhead to keep the elements off it can't be so different from your cave." he told him, mouth working at a hundred miles per minute.

He wanted the dragons to be comfortable here after all, in some ways he saw it has his job to even deal with discomforts like sleeping.

But really he couldn't stand that attitude of the queens, she was so, arrogant in the way she talked about herself and he stuck close to the kind blue now as he spoke again. "Well you know they only call you runt because they know it bothers you and your acting so mean, of course Ranask is nervous, he's shy of people in the village going near Ranask, let alone people he's never met, we've never seen anyone new from outside Ghenza before ever, so maybe you should take that into consideration by shouting at him and scaring him more, you big gold meanie!
How are you meant to be a good leader when you don't but others feelings first? And before your own wants and needs." he told her giggling at the last part, this was so much fun! He'd never told off a queen before. Mainly because they tended not to talk much to them, just as much as wa needed and no more. So this was new too! Exciting!

Ranaru was getting a little fed up with the way the boys were behaving, and she was glad that she decided to tag along. Who knows what they would have done should she not have been here, and she knew it to be a bad idea to get a Dragon Queen riled up. Inter-Weyr relations, for what little Ghenza had with anyone else, were quite important and even Ranaru knew that a Queen dragon at at the head of it all. Should they offend her, even with such a short memory that these dragons had, it could be bad. Jetta and Helios weren't making anything easier, and Ranask, for his part had slowly sneaked up behind her and now had his head against her back, eyes whirling a golden yellow.

Trouble. They're making trouble for you, should we go?

In a bit. I'd actually like to see if I could meet a Rider of one of these beasts.

Ranask gave a pitiful whine at Rana's answer, his emotion rather heartshaking that he wanted to go back and away, even leaving the boys to fend for themselves. They were supposed to be fifteen turns, right? They would be able to behave and care for themselves, not continue to act like they were six or seven, so there was no need for them to be there! He opened his mouth and used his teeth to grab in the back of Ranaru's dress, careful not to let anything but fabric gather inside.

No, we go. She is mean to you, I don't like it. I will attack her if we stay on this.

He was serious, but once again Ranaru batted him off. She would deal with his sulking much later, thought and actions full of warm, but for now she couldn't leave the twins alone. She could threaten them however.

"I do enjoy the fact that the two of you boys seem to think I was kidding, but since you're pushing it to shove I will make sure your father knows what you were doing without permission of the Weyrwoman as well as the permission of the riders of these dragons. As for you, Young Queen - may I know your name?"

It never hurt to be polite.

"I was not lying when I said I found you fascinating, but I know my place as a person of Ghenza, as one of the Craftsman. As for what our dragons say you could almost attribute it all towards the mindset of Ghenza. We are a small tribe of people, with set ways and set minds. Our remarks are only blunt to you because you have not heard the likes of them before, and I am sure were one of our dragons to follow you home they would be regarded as a giant. It is simply our way of life that makes us very you differently, nothing more."
PostPosted: Wed Feb 24, 2010 8:53 am

Helios paused in his conversation and glanced back at Ranaru. What the hell had he done?! He wasn't the one to stick out his tongue and he hadn't even touched the dragons. Heck, he had even waited why the gold spoke. Sure he was excited but that was no reason to say he was doing something wrong. In fact, he had been quite GOOD overall. Which he thought she ignored completely while given his brother her attention!

He gritted his teeth because he did have a temper in comparison to his brother and it took him a moment to remind himself that the dragons were far more important than loosing his cool. So he took a deep breath and finally said with firm and much more acting his age sort of voice, "Ranaru, I do not believe my speaking to these dragons and being polite when they talk is an issue that needs my father's input. The fact is I would really like to learn more about these dragons and improve my skills and satisfy my own curiosity rather than be ignorant. And well as for touching, Nachith has given his permission while Sharath has not. I don't see anything wrong with touching a dragon that has said ok. I'm going to be taking care of plenty of them in the future too. It would be good experience to know these dragons in case we have to care for them."

His words were rather a 180 from his bounding happy charmer self sounding more like his dad than anything. Yes, he could 'act his age' when he wanted but in a society of constant work and long study sessions he really did like his free time to be...none of that. He'd rather have Fun on his free time! This was suppose to be fun!

It was then his attention returned to the dragons because his burning curiosity desired continued conversation, "Thank you Nachith. My brother and I really enjoy your company too! How large is the largest weyr? Would dragons here fit in them? Ledges? You mean your home is on a cliff? So is your Weyr in a mountain?" All these things were entirely new to him because people around her rarely talked about the world beyond and in fact shunned it most of the time. Not that Helios wasn't proud of Ghenza and the dragons here, its just that he always felt like they were limited.

Helios then responded to Sharath's words with another set of questions and some offering of information, "So you're saying that the dragons are even in charge of their Riders in a Weyr? That's really different from here. Because queens are a lot like any other dragon and do work just like the rest of them. They even participate in in Wings. They keep things under control so there is no mistakes. Like if one of the dragons has a temper she keeps them in line and obedient in drills. I wouldn't say it's ruling though. She just does what she does best and everyone else is expected to do the same."

He laughed a little bit as the mirth started to come back to he's face again as he spoke directly to the large gold face that was so close to him...so tempting to touch, "I bet you're really excited to be in charge too. I wonder what that sort of world is like. Do you have your eyes on a bronze/brown and rider match? I bet it's hard to be a Senior Queen, you'd have to really understand your people and your dragons needs. That's so much work! How are you going to manage all that?"

Oh dear! They were not very good at talking to queens, were they? They just kept making it worse! Nachith sighed, but continued to keep out of it.

'Mine would like that, he told them, 'No one here talks to him, and it makes him sad.' The prospect of better places to sleep was quite welcome, too. 'And he will be able to tell you much about our Weyr.' Again, he went briefly quiet as he relayed this turn of events to B'ram.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 24, 2010 11:09 am

The rumble of displeasure grew louder as her eyes whirled from oranges and blues to bright, vibrant swirls of red and orange. Her body caught up to her head as she moved, tail lashing from side to side as her wings reflexively mantled. I am not shouting, fool. This is me shouting! Her mental voice in grew in volume and strength as she demonstrated that she'd been talking not yelling. To echo the irritation in that mental blast she bared her teeth as she snarled at Jetta. Who are you to know who I am? Who are you to judge me, human? I am not so muzzled as your queens.

Moving to pluck him from where he stood by Nachith, the Queen meant to knock him over as she brought her head very very close to his own. Learn some respect, boy.

Amelia, however, had felt that growing irritation through their link and had told her supervisor trouble was brewing. She'd gotten about halfway to where her dragon was when that mental blast crashed over her own mind and she jumped, breaking into a full-fledged run.

Running, she cut across the open areas and hopped the various fences and stockpiles that were stored in her path with surprising speed. Shardit, who was bothering her dragon? Why? Sharath? What's wrong?

This insolent boy thinks he can talk back to me. She growled again, lips pulling further back and revealing more teeth. It was clear from her mental tone, privately spoken to Amelia, that the queen felt this boy was trying to reign her in, exert some sort of dominance over her - dominance Sharath would have nothing of. She was wronged and she would not stand for it.

A few heartbeats later, she vaulted over one last fence and came to them, dirty, dressed in worn overalls, and breathing hard as she fell against Sharath's shoulder without introducing herself to the group. "Sharath! What's going on here? You look like you want to eat that boy." Speaking between breaths, she had to take a moment to catch her breath.

The sudden impact against her side and startled Sharath and her attention had snapped to Amelia, head coming around to peer at Hers. When Amelia got her breath back, she still didn't introduce herself as she stood up tall and glared at Jetta, having received a rapid update in full from Sharath. "You. I want to speak with you. Now." Her tone was hard, unimpressed as she walked towards the twin and gestured for him to follow her. "Sharath will answer the other questions after."

Despite the lingering snarl, Amelia smoothed her hand over the gold's nose with what might have seemed a very very brave act. "C'mon Sharath. They've upset you enough, let's deal with this one first. Move Jetta."

Pulling the two aside, she hoped to settle her dragon and reprimand this insolent youth without disrupting the conversation of the others too badly. People should really know better then to insult her dragon... She was bold, confident, capable... and smart. Why would you needlessly tempt the temper of a Queen? From any Weyr? It made no sense.

Jetta looked up sharply at Rana's tone as his eyes narrowed like shards of glass, this wasn't good, his Helios senses were tingling, as it where. He knew that his twin wouldn't take kindly to
being rather left out of proceedings and then blames for something that he hadn't done. "He's right Rana." He told her, "First he hasn't done anything worthy of being hauled off by Ranask and second the nice blue here has pretty much give....by the first egg she's got a voice on her!" he exclaimed as the queens shout almost blow out his mental eardrum. And he put his fingers to his ears instinctively although of course it didn't help in the slightest.

"Don't get so upset I was just making some suggestions." he told her the grin on his lips fading to a frown and then a yelp as he was knocked sprawling on his a**, not expecting the retaliation to be physically it put him off balance mentally and physically ending flat on his back, blinking at the sky in shock as the auburn curls settled around his head like a tainted halo. "Ouch." he huffed slightly as he brought himself slowly to his feet again and steadied himself.

Geeze, wasn't his fault she was so touchy. He dusted off his a** only to have the golds harried rider start making demands on him.

That was something he didn't take well to at all. "Listen if you want to speak to me we can do it here where...hey." he yelped again as he was pulled away from the protection of witnesses by the girl. Honestly. He didn't understand getting worked up about such little things.

He sighed and glanced back at his twin, an apologetic look for having him not included, he knew Helios would rather be there in amongst it all with him even if that did mean getting a scolding. "Wow you two are a pushy pair aren't you?" he observed further making an effort to sort himself after the manhandling pulling his clothes straight and brushing hair back from pale blue eyes.

"If your gold doesn't like talking to us she could have walked away," he pointed out "At any time, the field is big enough for us all and well the blue is a much more friendly character to start with, I wasn't trying to upset her in the first place just...making some observations." yes, that sounded about right.
