Stiring his pasta, he held a similar expression as Ivan did, deep in thought and very distracted from reality. His mind felt too full to eat, but the smell of fresh patsa and spaghetti sauce was too still appealing. He took a bite just to explain why he wasn't talking.
It wasn't like he didn't think about girls. He did. The troubel was, he questioned too much. He wasn't sure what he liked at all, and in the end, he didn't feel it was important. Why decide what you liked when no one liked you back. While he was very unsure what he actually liked to the point that he even did question if he was rooting for the other team, he did know that he liked the idea of being with someone. Enough romance pushed into every movie and tv series made the idea of a relationship appealing. The company, attention, and the ability to be relied on were all something he could imagine even if he couldn't put a face to the person in his foggy fantasies. It was why it depressed him at the same time. Why wasn't he more sure of himself? Everyone else could have conversations with friends about how such and such was hot or not, but he didn't like anyone. Maybe they all just annoyed him too much. This was probably why he didn't have any friends. No one wanted him and he didn't want them.
"I don't think you're a failure or anything at life. Your a doctor and you've had more relationships than I did. ......was it nice? Being with someone?" If Ladon was trying to make the doctor uncomfortable, he was doing it well.

"The difference is, you're sixteen and I'm going on fifty," said Ivan, sounding amused now; he had cleaned out his bowl fairly quickly. Cooking made you hungry, it did. He was washing the dishes now, stacking them on a drying rack next to the sink. "Being in a relationship is a biological imperative, and each half of the relationship wants something. When those somethings are the same, it can be nice. Wonderful, even."
He shrugged, and then in a way that made it clear the conversation was over, he said, "We'll leave when you're done eating, all right?"
