ya. tell me about it. I actually ripped open my PS2 and did a little trick to help me get rid of the "Disc Read Error" problems..but it's coming back..I'm just hoping my PS2 doesn't completely die out soon cause I want to trade it in for one of the small ones that Sony is coming out with soon.
the local EB has a trade in program so that's what I'm hoping to take advantage of. hopefully, my little crapbox will make it..

We did the same thing to hers to see if maybe something was in there, nothing. She was supposed to buy a DVD cleaner. I'll have an update on that soon. I remember when I was playing GTA: Vice City (on my PS2), driving the main character, Tommy, on a motorcycle, when he kept falling through the street. I though it was some sort of weird a** glitch until I noticed that you could see through some of the buildings and parts of the streets were missing. It's amazing what a little piece of yarn can do when it's on top of the lens, because that's what I found when I opened up my system. Luckily mines still works and I keep my PS2 covered when I'm not playing it.

When I went to the states I noticed the prices were about the same number but in dollars instead, i.e. about 33% cheaper And no you cant use different countries games unless you have your PS2 chipped. No idea about those games sorry.

in the states, new releases are around $50USD. for "Greatest Hits" games, they're usually eithr $20USD or $30USD. of course, there's used games, but those are as is, so you gotta be careful when you get them.
there's regions when it comes to video games...sort of like what they do for DVDs. I believe Region 1 is US, Region 2 is Asian, and Region 3 is Europe/Everything else.. I could be wrong on the regions, but you're right about having to get a modded PS2 to play those games...
