He was charming and gentlemanly, or that is what he tried to accomplish, sometimes it did not go the way he wanted and it seemed like he was just some foal trying to be an adult, but it appeared that his personality was able to help him get a new friend and help her open up to him. Wystan never knew that he had the capability to do that.
“I am glad; I wouldn’t want your father thinking badly of me.” She seemed to have picked the direction that they started to walk in randomly, but it was all the same to Wystan, he had never been here before, so all of it was new. He trotted to get next to her side, “I wonder what we are going to see.”
Wystan pondered her question, he had never realized he had so many wings, since his brother and mother have the same amount as him, “I do not know why I have eight wings… not really sure there is a use for the other four… but all I know is that I have these wings because my mother and father have them.”

Her silver eyes looked straight ahead now, making sure she did not run into anything or trip over a root. The litle butterfly flew along her side until it grew tired and laid on her back. She managed to get one ear to twist towards the colt while the other stayed forward, listening to what lie ahead.
"As long as you are nice and aren't a human, my daddy will like you." Nova nodded her head as if to confirm what she just said. It was true, her father was caring and accepting of just about anyone. She wondered the same thing that the colt had spoken aloud. "I'm sure we will find something interesting." At least, she hoped they would find something interesting.
"Your whole family has wings?" She was almost amazed by the fact. In her family, it was only her and her mother, or at least that she knew so far, who had the glittering wings. Nova smiled at her friend and looked around, listening to the leaves chatter and the birds singing their sweet songs that she thought were beautiful.

The path before them was clearly marked by a clear dirt road; on each side of the path, tall wild green grass grew, some flowers were spread out in random areas of the field of green. Wind made the grass whistle as it blew through it, creating natural music.
Wystan looked down at himself, “well the last time I checked I wasn’t…. so I guess he will like me then, but the nice part might come into question,” he smiled at her to let her know that he was joking, at least, he hoped that she knew he was joking. He looked around, “I’m sure we will, do you know if there are any caves nearby? I’ve always wanted to explore one.” There was something mysterious about a dark cave, and Wystan wanted to solve that mystery; it would happen someday.
“Yes, we are all angenis… why, not all your family have wings?” Birds flew over head, swooping down and then shooting back into the air, doing loops around each other; their songs filling the afternoon air. It really was a spectacular sight, freedom comes in all shapes, and they were exhibiting on that they have achieved for years.

Nova's ears flicked at each sound that was made, the sound of their hooves crushing the dirt, the grass whistling, the leaves chattering amongst themselves. All of this brought a smile to the small filly's face. Her silver eyes glanced over to her friend when he started to speak.
She shook her head. "You are extremely nice! He will like you." Nova said before nodding her head. "I remember seeing a small cave close by." Even though her father said it was best to stay away from caves, she couldn't help but wonder what dangers lurked inside these caves. Her father was always right, but just this once she wanted to challenge his rules. Today would be their day to solve the mystery of what was hidden in the cave.
She shrugged her shoulders, assuming all families were like her own. "I'm not sure. My daddy doesn't have wings, but my mommy does. I'm the only one out of my brother and sister that has wings." Nova was proud of this, but knew that her father was proud of his lack of wings.

The sounds that nature made were calming, but they were unable to reduce Wystan’s excitement about discovering a cave and learning its secrets. It will be something that he would tell mother, since she had never been inside a cave before, or that he knew of. She would have told him if she ever did… right?
He could not help but smile, “That’s good. I would not want the parents of my friends not to like me. It would make things awkward.” His eyes widened and excitement started to build, “Really? Now I can finally see one and not just make up pictures based on facts or fables that other Soquili have told me.”
Nova’s description of her family was much different than Wystan expected, she was the only one with wings in her family, besides her mother, while Wystan’s family were all the same, besides color wise. He was more on the dark color side, matching his father more than his mother, whereas his brother was definitely his mother’s son, “That’s really interesting. I wonder how that happened….”

Nova watched her friend as he seemed to fight with himself on the inside for a moment. Her purple ears flicked back and forth as she listened to the sounds that surrounded the two of them. She lifted her head to now stare at the large branches of the trees that hid the two foals from the sun.
Everything was so marvelous and interesting. Much better than anything she had seen from that tiny basket she was stuck in for so long. "Oh, I'm not sure... My grandma has wings and a horn and my grandpa has wings like those of a butterfly." Nova smiled as she looked ahead now, towards where they were headed.
Nova's ears flicked forward when she finally saw the opening of the cave. "There it is..." Her paced slowed slightly and she decided to let Wystan lead the way. She felt a little fearful now at how the cave seemed to look like a giant mouth that wanted to swallow the two foals. "You can go first."

“You come from an interesting family, it sounds fun in a way,” he smiled at his new friend who had such a wonderful heritage. Nova was what Wystan was looking for in a friend; she answered all his questions and she even had questions of her own, which usually does not happen since most of the other Soquili run for the hills or they do not get the chance to ask questions after Wystan’s unstoppable question barrage.
The two foals walked toward the cave; it truly was magnificent. Limestone that was shaped by the fall of rain over thousands of years, created a entry way into the darkness of the cave. Around the outside of the limestone mouth, flowers of all different colors grew in beds of grass. For once in his life, the talkative foal was struck speechless, but only for a second.
“Wow.” His eyes where wide as he nodded his head at Nova’s words and continued on his way into the darkness of the cave; his hooves touched rock, making a sound on the hard surface. Inside the darkness Wystan was able to see a beam of light far in the distance; slow as a snail he made his way toward the light, waiting ever so often for Nova to catch up.

Nova nodded at the colt's first statement. Yes, she did have quite an interesting family. The thought of her family made her smile. She hadn't met them all just yet, but she knew that one day she would. A part of her hoped that she would meet her grandparents very soon. The young filly shook her head to clear her thoughts, almost causing herself to topple over her somewhat awkwardly long legs.
Before the filly took a step into the cave, she watched the butterfly that followed her flutter over towards the flowers and land easily. Her ears flicked back and forth as she listened to what sounded like water dripping within the cave. She decided to stay close to her new found friend rather than venture into the cave alone.
As he stepped into the cave, Nova followed like a lost puppy. Her silver eyes adjusted to the darkness and she pushed herself to continue walking as she looked around. Nova felt her wings shuffle nervously as she looked around, hoping nothing would jump out at them and scare the two foals. "What is that light?" Nova whispered softly, hearing her voice echo throughout the cave.

It was quiet except for the soft dripping of water off the stalagmites into milk colored puddles on the grey rocky ground. The clapping of the hooves echoed around the spacious cavern; Wystan twitched his ears at the sound, for it made it seem like there was an army of horses approaching.
Deeper into the cave the two foals walked, approaching the white light in the distance, for once Wystan was unsure what the light was, but he made a educated guess, “There must be an opening to the outside in the rock face and the light of the sun is shining through into this cavern.” The young detective got closer to the light and looked up at the ceiling where the light found its way through a tiny crack. His icy blue eyes followed the beams of light to the ground where a bed of crystals lie. The light was reflecting off the clear crystals creating mini rainbows on the walls that danced when the light of the sun shifted outside the cave.
“Have you seen anything like it? What is causing it? Why is it doing that?” Wystan turned to the filly beside him, wishing that she knew the answers to what he asked.

The young filly felt a shiver run down her spine as they seemed to tip toe their way towards the light. Their hooves creating a ruckus with each step they took. She quickly looked over to her friend as he explained his idea as to what the light was. Nova nodded and sighed a sigh of relief. Her light sliver, almost white eyes glanced over to her friend and she smiled softly, happy to have someone to explore the cave with.
Nova quickly trotted over to the crystals and looked down at them closely. She glanced at her wings and put them in the light, figuring they would shimmer, but not exactly like the crystals did. With a giggle, she turned to her friend. Surprisingly, she could answer the questions he was tossing her way. "I have seen mine and my mother's wings. The sun makes them sparkle!" She tilted her head at his last question. Why was a very good question.

Wystan looked at her wings; they were sparkling in the suns beams coming though the cave. To test it out Wystan put his red and gold wings under the light. Nothing happened. They did not sparkle in the sun or reflect the light to cause tiny rainbows. He felt the small p***k of disappointment, but he pushed it away as his curiosity took over, “Hmm, why is it that your wings sparkle in the light, but mine only become deeper in color?”
Searching his memory, Wys tried to remember if he had any prior knowledge of caves; the memory came up black. It was irksome that he knew nothing of caves; he was going to change that soon. His blue eyes gazed around the cave, it was much bigger than he expected and many tunnels led off into different directions; some sending you deeper into the cave, others to dead ends. “Nova, do you want to continue exploring this cave?” The young Angeni foal was hoping that his new found friend would say yes; he did not want to explore the amazing cave by himself. It would not be as much fun.

Nova watched as the colt tested his wings in the light. Her ears flicking back and forth as she listened to his hooves click against the floor of the cave. The filly smiled at his question and forced her wing to shuffle slightly. "My mother sparkles. She says I am the granddaughter of two gemstone soquili." What that meant, the filly wasn't exactly sure.
At the offer, Nova let her silver eyes quickly glance around at the multiple tunnels. She looked at her friend then back at the darkness and smiled. "I would love to!" The filly said as she nudged her friend with her muzzle gently. She would let him lead the way, of course. An adventure through the cave would be fun and exciting, just what the filly wanted.

“Gemstone soquili? They must be a sight to see, if they are anything like the crystal below our hooves,” His eyes looked down at the clear crystal; it was like warm ice in appearance and texture. Wystan’s new friend’s family was rich with history and interesting soquili, if he ever met them, he would ask them a never ending barrage of questions.
In his excitement Wystan jumped up into the air and hovered a bit before he came back down to the cave’s ground. His eyes shifted from tunnel to tunnel, trying to pick which one would lead to the most adventure, “Which one should we follow?” He wanted his new filly friend to have a say, since if it was not for her, he would not be here at this moment.

Nova nodded her head. "They look a little like my wing, I think." She hadn't yet met her grandparents. "And they are blue and orange." Her ears flicked back and forth as she listened to the sound of her voice bouncing off the walls of the cave. She smiled then looked to her friend.
When he asked her where they should go, she looked at each one then closed her eyes and played a game of eeny meeny miny mo. Her eyes opened and she began at a run down into one of the tunnels as fast as she could, ready for their adventure to begin.

Light blue eyes locked on her purple and white wings, what an interesting combination of colors and it was from a line of soquili who took on the appearance of gemstones; Wystan hoped that the wonders of the world would never crease to exist. The young foal tore his gaze away from her wings and smiled back at her; questions were for later, now it was time for some adventure.
The angeni foal watched as his new friend Nova closed her eyes and picked a direction, although he was not sure how the decision was made, the practicing detective went along with it. Nova’s eyes opened in a flash and she ran down one of the long passage ways, her hooves making a clacking nose each time they connected with the hard ground. Wystan, excitement building in his tiny frame, ran after her, the sound of his hooves echoing off the walls. It was time for fun, and a time for a new adventure, a time that neither would forget.
