For monetary reasons (both that I don't think I want to put any money towards Repo Men, and because I don't have any to begin with) I've been considering seeing it at my local dollar theater. But then there wouldn't be very many people to see my Repo! shirt. It's a conundrum. Maybe I'll go see a different movie but where my Repo! shirt. Depends on what's playing at the time.

I'm seriously considering attempting to sneak into the projector room and swap Repo Men for Repo! The Genetic Opera during the previews. If people are going to spend money to see a movie, shouldn't they get to see the real thing?

They are paying to see the real Repo Men. You'd be swapping in a completely different movie.

Yeah, that isn't a grand idea. This movie is definitely marketed for people who ABSOLUTELY WON'T see the appeal of REPO!, and think about how you might feel.

The cosplay notion is a mighty fine idea.

That AND there's too much security. And there are only like 12 reels SO FAR so it might be kind of tough. Still it's a cool idea I think..... And some people might of actually ended up liking it! Still not possible...

Not if they're paying to see Repo Men.
1) The money STILL goes to Repo Men whether they actually see it or not. This is the main problem. Repo Men still benefits because they get the big cash whether people love the movie or not.
2) People tend to get pissed when the movie they see is different from the trailers. Trailers give a feel for a movie, and weeds out (for the most part) who will hate the movie and who will love it. Switching reels on an innocent party of people who don't know any better (and probably don't have much experience with musicals) might just make them hate Repo! when, if they weren't deceived by reel-switching, they might see Repo! themselves and like it for what it is.

True, but just for the fact that they would of been interested in that kind of thing in the first place, be it musical or not, there has to be that small group of people who are like "Sweet man! This is even better than the trailer!". But you are correct, most would be angry.

To swap repo!, you'd need a version of it in film. I'm pretty sure movie theaters still use film to play their movies, not dvds. razz

Has to be? I'd have to say that if two people in the audience out about 50 were to say they liked it, that'd be a large number. General consensus is that musicals are not exactly popular. The movie-musicals that were recently successful became successful because of great marketing (not to mention incredibly recognizable stars).
I wouldn't call deceiving hundreds of movie-goers great marketing.

It's not great marketing, but sometimes bad things or bad ideas work out. Sometimes, not always. If I had never seen or heard of Repo before (man that's SO hard to picture) and I went to Repo Men (though I probably would of found out about the whole copying thing before I went) and someone switched it to Repo! Then I know I would of liked it. I probably would of been a little like 'What the hell' but after a minute I would of loved it like when I first watched it. What I'm saying is, there are Repo fans in the most unsuspecting places. (Why do people hate musicals? They must not be seeing the right ones. 8P)

And to Jentern: At one shadowcast they were never sent the reels so they had to use a dvd. They might have an emergency dvd projector. And there are only around 12 copies of Repo so it would be hard to do that.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean movie theaters would have dvd players just in case.

I feel guilty. -w- I made an event on facebook. My friends and I are going to see the film in Repo! cosplay. It doesn't bother me that the money is going to Repo Men. I'm doing it for my entertainment and we're not going to be belligerent about it.

You shouldn't; that sounds fun. It'll make people go "Wtf?" and get their attention, and if you're being polite and friendly there's no reason they should be put off by it. I say go for it. biggrin

Edit: And as far as money goes, Repo Men is going to make a shitload more money than Repo! did and there's not a lot we can do about it. I see nothing wrong with boycotting the movie if it's what you want to do. Paying for a ticket is your way of letting folks know "I want more of this kind of movie." So if you want to withhold your money, by all means do. Just know that Repo! fans boycotting won't have a very large effect.
