What.

What.

WHAT.

Parker stared at Robin as if she had just told him that a banana was growing out of his ear. "What?" he said. Then, louder, "WHAT? You think. You want. You think I'm going to?" He shook his head once, then again, then many times as he back away from the crazy lady.

Finally, he reached sanity: "You want me to dress up as a Crystal girl?"

The idea made sense, even Parker could see it, but that didn't mean he was going to do it. "Robin, there is no way I am marching into Crystal Academy dressed as a girl. There has to be another way, any other way to move through the building without sticking out." She could think of one, right? Because Parker sure as hell couldn't.

"Well, you could try dressing up as a janitor, but I'm pretty sure they have to wear skirts, too," she observed with a giggle. "But how are we supposed to get one of their ID cards? No, I'm pretty sure this is it."

With that final proclamation, Robin's face turned serious again. Because Parker wasn't looking cooperative, that meant she had to turn on the charm - or at least the scowl - to make sure this worked. "You can't back out, anyway. This is our chance, right? There's literally nobody else that has the balls or the brains to do something like this. If it's not us, then you know what happens? Karmic scales, unbalanced. The Crystal girls get to own the world, and nobody'll ever remind them that not everyone likes getting stepped on. If you're okay with that, then whatever. I'll do something on my own. Nothing as good as what you could do, and they'll forget about it by the end of the week - but at least I'm not gonna wuss out."

That was the glove being thrown, Parker, just in case you didn't realize. Robin was watching him intently now, with a slight narrowing of her eyes. If he was willing to come with her now, he'd be with her until the end, no doubt about it - but any weakness he showed at this moment would damage his credibility forever. "What's it gonna be?"

Parker could feel himself at the edge of a precipice, and he didn't like it. On one side, there was safety and mediocrity; on the other, danger and excitement. He was upset over the situation with Dani, but that did not make him an idiot. Dressing up like a girl and breaking into a school? That was not Parker. Parker was anything but that guy. He liked to watch things from the side lines. SIDE LINES.

Why was he even considering this?

Robin seemed so certain, but her exciting speech didn't do much to stir him. He wanted the logic behind it, not the flash and sparkle. But there was a kernel of truth in it: If it's not us, then you know what happens? Karmic scales, unbalanced. The Crystal girls get to own the world, and nobody'll ever remind them that not everyone likes getting stepped on. The Crystals already had everything that he didn't -- so why couldn't he take them down a notch? It might not be a lot, but it was something. It was action. Granted, Robin still hadn't told him exactly what she needed him to do, just that it required crossdressing. If Parker looked old enough to play a janitor, he might try, but even he knew that would be more difficult.

"I will do it under one condition: you have to tell me exactly what you need me to do. I don't want to get deep into this and then have to realize that I can't do want you need." Parker pulled his bag aside. "You know, I can't believe I'm saying this -- but yeah. Yeah, if I can pull off the computer stuff you'll need, then I'm in. But I want us to be careful. And if there is a big risk, you have to take it, not me. Okay?" Crystal Academy deserved it, and for once in his life, Parker was ready to try something active -- no more blogging, no more whining. This time he would strike them at home, and he would strike them hard -- even if it meant taking a risk, an uncharacteristic, stupid, silly risk.

"You've got it," Robin affirmed. After all, she wasn't afraid of things getting a little risky - she hadn't been caught in the act of pulling a prank for nearly a year now, why should this be any different?

There was a swapping of phone numbers, e-mails to follow - phone was better than e-mail, of course, since there were no transcripts that way, but it would be all right if they were careful. Robin took immediate charge of the task of getting disguises; all that Parker had to do was wait for the next call, and keep from chickening out. As for the rest of the plan, well....

They would be spending the better part of an hour at least, discussing the specifics in low voices, hushing up whenever a girl of sufficiently expensive-looking clothing might pass. There were still ambiguous pieces by the time they finally split, making their separate excuses of places they needed to get to, but the plan sounded solid. If they did this right, Crystal was going to remember it for a long, long time.
