A bronze hatching first, that was supposed to be a good sign, right? Layla beamed as she studied the newly hatched dragonet; this was the one she'd expected brown for, but right now she couldn't care one way or the other about her silly guesses. He was lovely, really quite lovely, but she was very glad he wasn't coming over here... Yulu was over there! She hoped her friend stayed out of the dragonet's way! She would of course, Yulu was sensible, and would know this one wasn't for her, this one was definitely for a boy... Hopefully a very brave one!

Yulu winced at the bellow the bronze dragonet let lose into the air as it came from its shell, her eyes not fully closing but narrowing enough to indicate her displeasure over the loud sound. It was clear based on its actions the hatred she had felt while touching its shell was very real and now had legs, so it would be in her best interest to pay attention - because it was coming over her way. She was amongst the boys and Bronzes looked only to the boys, even if she knew that it still didn't make things easier. Her eyes would never leave the approaching figure, her body ready to act should its aggression be taken out on a fellow Candidate.
She didn't even think to challenge the beast, her mind not stupid enough to send thoughts that a telephatic beast could pick up on, but she did allow her head to look at the faces of the others.

Lelia watched with fascination as the orange stripe egg rocked, waited, and then cracked open, revealing what looked like one very worked up bronze. Just listen to the way he roared! But a bronze hatching first, that was a good sign, right? A good luck omen? Lelia wasn't sure whether she believed in such superstitions or not, but she liked to think it meant the hatching would go well. Hopefully he wouldn't hurt anybody, he sure looked hostile. Maybe it was just determination, she didn't like the thought of one of the dragonets hurting anybody, though it definately happened. She reached down and gave Layla's hand a quick squeeze, a confession of excitement and friendship. Who knew if either of them would impress today? Layla was such a nice girl, surely the dragons would recognize that?
Lelia took a deep breath and stilled herself, attempting to work her mind into the trance-like state she used when cleaning or dealing with difficult people, that allowed her to stay level-headed and impartial. She had to pay attention, she had to focus. She wouldn't let emotions get the best of her.

Verianne reached out, hesitantly resting her hand on Layla's arm as the bronze dargonet hatched. She never would have thought that egg would have held a bronze dragon. And it was so angry! But it knew what it wanted, stomping for the crowd of males as if it meant business.
Jada held her breath, watching the small bronze approach the boys. It was so unhappy, the orange in its eyes still, even though its cry was over. She was grateful it wasn't stomping in her direction.
Faranth, let no one get hurt.

Folen watched the orange stripe egg closely. This one seemed to have been born angry. He wasn't sure if it was due more to be ready to move should the dragonett rush the candidates or simply because the sand was so hot but he found himself poised on the balls of his feet as if to fight or flee as the egg crashed open and the small bronze was revealed.

Kylar's excitement seemed unrivaled, but he knew that every Candidate danced on their feet as excitedly as he did. The sands were pleasantly warm beneath his feet, and he looked around at the packed stands, in awe at the people.
The humming of the myriads of dragons reverberated through his very bones, and Kaveth seemed even more imposing then during the Touching. His hands felt a little clammy, but the grin on his face was as wide as ever.
And then suddenly, there was a silence. The first egg rocked, almost violently, and the sound of the shell breaking seemed loud to his ears. He watched, listened as the bronze bellowed, and his eyes grew wide as saucers as the dragonet came towards the boys.

Kaatan was sitting in the stands, watching everything happen before him. The hatching dragonets always brought an excitement about the weyr that was matched by nothing else. It's a bronze! he thought to himself, very excited. Very good, to start with a bronze! He watched the candidates intently, his eyes falling on Lelia. Secretly, he wished her luck, though he knew that she probably wasn't even aware of his presense at the Hatching. They have more important things to worry about, sure and they do!

No, no, no, no! Where was His?
Though the bronze wasn't on a warpath he was very clearly displeased, shoving several candidates fiercely out of his way as he marched through the boys. Those who weren't quick enough to shimmy backwards in the sand may have been unlucky enough to have been stepped, the hatchling clearly unconcerned with the candidates that were not His.
Meanwhile, the Blue Earth Egg began to shake, not quite as energetically as its brother but with a definite rhythm. A wiggle and a jiggle later and the egg cracked, spidery veins running down the side until a blue tail forced its way through. There was a pause there the dragonet seemed to realize he was hatching the wrong way out and the tail disappeared. Moments later, after much shuffling and several squeaks, a nose peeked out of the hole, nostrils flared.
Creeee? said the baby dragon, taking several deep breaths through his nose. Then, he wiggled his face and scrabbled around until the egg broke, leaving him with several pieces still stuck to him. A blue, and a large on at that, staggered to his feet, clearly very excited to be out of his shell. He made to bound enthusiastically towards the male candidates, however his foot caught on his wing and he went tumbling down the sands, barreling straight into the first row of male candidates.
Oops.

Lelia watched with shock the way the bronze pushed through the boys, and her heart went out to those who didn't get out of the way in time. Oh, she hoped they were all right. Silly dragonet, he should be more careful! On the other hand, he was so young, he didn't know any better. Lelia knew these kinds of things happened at hatchings but, shards, it was still too bad that people got hurt. If only there was a safer way to do it.
Lelia watched as the blue hatched in a most comical fashion, and felt a bloom of amusement deep in her chest. What a good bit of comic relief. She needed that, and said silent thanks to the blue. He unfortunately seemed a bit clumsy, and she watched as he tumbled into the the boys in front. Oh! She hoped they were all right; surely it was an accident. The little blue seemed too friendly, too happy to do anything like that on purpose.

Yulu was glad she had never let her eyes leave the dragon as it hatched, his movements into their rank easily avoided by her when he started shoving people out of the way. It looked as though some of them had gotten injured in the process, nothing too serious for her to care for, not to mention the watching Healers weren't running over at full speed to tend to the wounded. These would all most likely end up as cuts and scrapes, Yulu sighing as she shook her head and allowed her gaze to be driven back towards the eggs at the sounds of cracking.
When a large blue came tumbling from his shell and started over towards them Yulu took care to pay attention too, moving slowly to the side to avoid it and the Bronze in tandem. She didn't have to worry too much as it fell over its own wings into the sand, but she dared not move to go and assist it. Any movement by her could be seen as a threat to the already rather upset Bronze, so she let the dragon stay where it was on the sands. It'd get up on its own.

A blue! She'd been right on this one, and what a fine blue he was!... He seemed to be after the boys though. Layla had to admit her heart sank a little when he didn't even glance at the girls. Still, he might look over the boys and not find His, then move onto the girls. Maybe he just wanted to check out all of his options before he chose.

Well, a tiny bronze and then a big blue by the looks of it. Y'kar peered thoughtfully out at the sands, his mind running back through the months to his own Impression. This hatching was so different already, after what had happened with Kannaroth's this one would be remembered very well indeed if it kept going as it was at the moment. Still, let people say what they wanted, he knew that 'the terrible trio' were the best three dragons to hatch in many a turn. They would not easily be equaled, and could not be surpassed, especially not his lifemate. She was something very special indeed.
"And don't I know it?" Kannaroth grinned into his mind. "Still," a mental shrug, "good job they look healthy, people would be whining forever if they weren't. Wonder which dolts they'll pick out for themselves?"

Jumping back to avoid the bronze dragonet Folen having assumed the blue being of a gentler disposition than his brother would be less of a danger found himself flying through the air to land firmly on his rear.
Not wanting to linger on the sands with an angry dragonet prowling about he quickly scampered up and back into place dusting himself off and flushing slightly in embarrassment. He would not be so quick to discount any dragon in the future weather even tempered or not.

Watching the bronze on his rampage, Kylar nearly missed the blue hatching, but he laughed softly at the dragonet's antics. Between the eggshells pinned to it, and the way it barreled into the boys in front of him, Kylar wanted to fall over laughing, but contained it lest it annoy Kaveth.

L'pin chuckled as he watched the little Bronze stomp around the boys like he was in a kitchen looking for something, the man knowing a thing or two about upset dragonets on the sands. His own beloved Shamth had been such a beast, though a bit more deadly in his own right, but that was to be expected. He didn't pity the boys getting hurt anything, but he did find that he was glad to see Yulu moving with her attention focused.
Do not worry Mine, that thing will be fine. You say you share the same blood, and you are certainly wonderful for me.
It was odd to hear Shamth speak with reassurance towards the nerves of his rider, and L'pin gave a gentle pat in agreement towards it all. The little flitt in his arms was still chirping her nerves every now and then, her want of Yulu strong, though L'pin managed to keep her fairly quiet with thoughts of Yulu and the occasional command of silence from Shamth.
You're right, and look! There's a blue on the sands now. He's bigger than you were when you shelled, though not nearly as pretty.
Of course. Your Shamth is the most handsome Blue in this Weyr.

And now a blue! Even without Standing, Kaatan found this very exciting -far more than the last one. They seemed to be shovey, but no one was being severely hurt. Which is good... A few cuts and scrapes is nothing to worry about at all, especially if all are paired successfully.
The gold had yet to hatched, was what Kaatan was waiting for the most. The blue didn't seem interested in the girls at all, so he assumed that Lelia would not be His. There are plenty more dragons, though. And the gold!
