She snorted in mirth. If I ever ran into a stallion, I would probably literally have to run into him. But that doesn't mean I don't look. I can appreciate a nice-looking male when I see one. And there are some drool-worthy males walking around. It felt odd to be talking about males. She had seen a few that she would have loved to have gotten with, but oh boy, knew that they would never give her a second look. They had better prospects, like Deneb for one. She doubted that this girl would ever find herself lacking male companionship when she went looking. She was beautiful, and she was one of those that the men looked over her for.

A flare of anger flickered through her, and she quickly snuffed it out. Deneb couldn't help the way she was born. She was beautiful and from what she had seen of her so far, she was kind. Who wouldn't want a mare like that? Heavens, if she swung that way, she would probably go for the girl, but though she had never seen the point in that, and she liked stallions too much, they didn't seem to like her. But she would not hold it over Deneb. She wasn't like that.

Even the smell of rain, she breathed with a sigh, her momentary anger forgotten. Have you ever been in the desert when it has rained? The creosate that flavors the air.... there is no scent like it in the world. She closed her eyes at the memory, and breathed in the remembered scent. At one point, you are going to have to be there to experience it. Do you know that they have frogs in the desert? Yeah, frogs! She pranced in excitement at the memory of frogs, and of chasing them across the desert. And fish too! Fish that live for months in mud under the ground.

Deneb laughed at the other females mood. "I didn't know that. Never wandered that way before. It sounds amazing though. I might try it sometime." she said with a nod.

She wondered very briefly at the other females sudden change of topic. She didn't mind. There was only so much you could say about the other half of the species before it got boring, and despite what anyone thought Deneb's experience with males was very limited, and not always pleasant. What was it about her that she kept running into the most obnoxious members of the other gender. She quietly sighed and shook her head a bit.

"Its amazing how life adapts." she said. "Always finding a way to survive. Its wonderful."

Yes. If you do ever find yourself that way, I would really suggest it. She reached down briefly to itch the side of her nose along the side of her leg, scratching as hard as she could to remove the itch that had just amazingly sprung into life and demanded attention. She lifted her head, and tested the wind out of habit, before shaking her mane, and nodding to the other soquili.

That it is. And never lets you be bored either. Some soquili, their adventures end with moving from one field or another, never exploring the world around them. But take a good. Take a good look. She looked around, taking in the scent from the breeze again, and letting it ruffle her mane. She closed her eyes, and just took in a deep breath. Why would you not want to explore that? Why wouldn't you want to See that! I know I'm a bit strange. Some just aren't born with the will or the inclination to explore. And I feel sorry for them.

Yes, there are dangers. Yes, there is even death. But to know that you reached that mountain, you crossed those hill. Heavens, you've seen more then anyone around you, just fills me with excitement!
She pranced in place at the thought, though in a way she had played down her own adventures a bit. How quickly she forgot, but she knew she'd remember far too soon. Might as well enjoy the good days to the full extent.

Deneb nodded. "I know what you mean. You have to look around to really appreciate what you have." she looked back up at the stars and focused on the one that she often ventured out to see. The one her mother had named her for. Deneb often wondered if that meant she had more to live up too, more expected of her. She shook her head not really able to come to a conclusion.

She sighed and looked back at the other mare and moved forward giving her a reassuring nuzzle. "I think you know your share of heartbreak as well as I do." she said. "Its hard...but living through it makes us far stronger than just giving up and letting go." she stepped back again and stamped her foot. "It makes you appreciate the life you have and the lives of those around you." she finished with a firm nod.

She was caught off guard and a little surprised at the nuzzling of the other mare, and then nodded in full agreement with her. That it does. I know I do not take any day for granted anymore. It is my life, and I'm going to life it to it's fullest! She stamped her own foot to emphasis her point. Everything around me is special, even if it is my enemy. It is still alive. That is why if I have to fight, I try not to kill. I don't want to take this gift away.

It made her think about her past. She had lived though heartache, and times when she felt she would rather just die. She drowned in sorrow and she burned alive with anger. She had pushed those that were closest to her away, and had waited for death to come, and then went seeking it. Finally, her life had stabilized, but she found she could not return home, and had been wondering since.

Deneb flicked her ears back feeling slightly guilty. "Did I bring up bad memories?" she asked quietly. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean too." she sighed a bit and looked off to the side. "I suppose we all have our demons that we have to live with." she took a deep breath then looked over at the other mare again.

"I hope you don't find me insensitive. I just...I felt that you needed some one to listen someone to comfort you." she shuffled and hoped she hadn't offended the other mare.

Soraven shook her head, dispelling the thoughts that clouded it. This was not the time nor the place, and she hadn't been acquainted with Deneb long enough for her to worry about that. There isn't a soul I've met that doesn't have demons that chase them. Mine are just old demons that sometimes find ways to haunt me again. Don't worry about it.

Then her ears flicked sideways, but with a sense of amusement and irony. Yes, maybe I did need someone to talk to. It's been quite a while since I have had anyone to speak with. She took a step forward, and gave Deneb a hearty and friendly shove, pushing with her muzzle and cheek against the other mares shoulder; her horn over the others back. If I found you insensitive, I'd have probably kicked you by now, and we wouldn't still be talking. She couldn't help but give a small smile to the other mare. Maybe she did really miss this. This ability to talk and share things with someone else. Though, occasionally you might find me that way. And I tend to take liberties with soquili.

Case and point, she itched the side of her forehead on Denebs shoulder, getting a particularly itchy spot that she hadn't been able to reach earlier. As she finished with the itch, something dawned on her. She lifted her head. You aren't hungry bychance, are you?

Deneb laughed at the other mare's liberties. "Not a problem! I'm not afraid to say or do what I think I need too, either." she said. "I've never been afraid to lash out when necessary."

She opened her mouth as her stomach suddenly answered for her. "I could definitely use a snack." she agreed. "Sorry about that, but you know how it is, sometimes your body talks for you."

Sora moved back a step and couldn't help but grin at the mare. Deneb, I think that we are going to be wonderful friends. She turned, and pointed in a direction under the trees with her horn. I have an absolutely gorgeous patch of clover I've been tending. Its actually made it pretty well through the winter, and it's not quite as good as it will be in the spring, but for now, its a bit better then that dried stuff that calls itself grass.

Deneb smiled. "Anything has to be better than what's available under the trees." she said. "Its all dry and prickly." she laughed. "But gotta eat something. Makes you really long for spring and summer."

She smiled and nodded. "I think your right. We'll be good friends. Now~ Lead the way~?" she laughed.

Soraven smiled and headed into the treeline, and for her nursed patch of clover. Yeah, I was never a fan of that stuff. That's why I have this. Though I have to be careful with it. But since spring is coming, I don't need to be quite as careful. They walked for a bit, and headed for an outcropping of stone where there was a spring. the rocks insulated and protected the area where it came from the ground, and around the base of the spring grew a whole patch of green-leafed clover. Soraven grinned.

I was so happy and lucky to have found it. it's one of the only places of running water that doesn't freeze over. I have been visiting this place all winter.

"Oh~ it looks wonderful." Deneb nodded and smile at the other mare. "You are so lucky, not only find it, but that no one else has either. I'm sure there are some who would not be quite so generous as you."

She stepped lightly into the patch and leaned down breathing in the scent of the clover. "I promise I'll be careful" she said. "I don't want to ruin your food supply."

I don't see why. We all have to share, or we won't survive. Though, I guess I can understand. Sometimes, I really don't like sharing some of the things that I have found. But most of them I do. Though, then again, I haven't really shared this one, because I know some stupid soquili will be a hog and just eat at the entire patch, and wonder why it hasn't grown back, or why it might have even died off. Um, not saying anything about you being stupid or anything. Just saying.

She watched the other mare taking in the clover scent, and couldn't help but smile. One of my favorite scents, besides rainwater and sweetgrass; Clover. I once lived at a place where there were fields of the stuff. Could munch on it all day. That was good. I kinda got a little fat living there though. She poked at her side with her muzzle. Worked off the pounds though.

Deneb smiled and watched the other mare chatter. "Yes I know how that is. I have to admit I've put on some extra weight since I moved down into the forest. Its hard to get fat up in the mountains, way of life doesn't really allow for that."

She nibbled carefully at the clover closest to her and savored the taste. "Oh, that's good." she said in a dreamy voice.

Soraven leaned down and took small sips from the spring. She could only take small ones because it was so cold, and she could only stomach so much at a time before she became sick off of it. She had already nibbled off the clover earlier today, and wasn't quite so hungry, and she didn't mind letting someone else feed for a bit. Though, she couldn't wait for spring when food would be abundant.
