"Food certainly sounds like a better option though I don't know if me sneaking a meal in before eating with my host family is such a good idea. They've been rather cranky lately about how much I do or do not eat and I'm almost to the point where I don't know what to do about it. I'm sure I'd rather not offend them at all since I'm an outsider here, but there's only so much I can do before I have to say something."
There was always that innate fear that he would be turned out for some reason and have to find somewhere else to go, as Panata was pretty sure that the candidates from other places had been put in with the people who were the friendliest (were that possible). He wasn't certain that anyone else out there would be willing to take on another person this late into the transfers, so. . . .
"Whatever works best for you though, I say we do it. I have no problems."

"Your host family does that to you too, huh?" Jericho asked with an exasperated roll of his eyes accompanied by a sigh "The people here are so absurd." He said quietly "I'm with you though, lets go for the sands. Sounds more fun in any case." the tall man said, hauling himself to his feet and offering the boy a hand up.
Turning to get his bearings, Jericho headed off towards the river, knowing the direction it was in even from this unfamiliar part of the town. As the walked, Jericho remembered something and reached into his belt pouch, pulling out a little parcel wrapped in a clean white cloth.
"Here, take a piece, it'll tide you over till you can get back to your foster family and eat." Jericho said, unwrapping the cloth to reveal a few strips of dried meat, offering some to Panata. He took a piece himself and took a bite. It wasn't much, but it quieted his growling stomach as they walked.
It ten or so minutes later, the sound of rushing water reached Jericho's ears, making him smile again "Nearly there now." he said, adjusting their route now that they were more out in the open and he knew where he was, setting a course for the beach.

Panata took the meat with honest thanks and bit into it quickly, enjoying the flavor with a smile on his face as he chewed it silently. It made him happy to know that there was at least one person in this Weyr who was friendly to him, even if that person was originally from High Reaches like he was. Hopefully after the Impression when things calmed down the Ghenzan people would be nicer to him and stop worrying so hard about what he was and wasn't doing. The meat helped fill him up enough that he didn't notice the longer walk that he and the older boy were doing, his mind now able to focus on feeling content then being hungry or tired. Good company was food for the body and soul.
He hardly noticed the change in the terrain until Jericho said something to him, and even then Panata had to look around to actually register that they'd been moving this whole time. Had he really been that lost in his thoughts or just that content about all of this?
"Wow. I...other than the High Reaches lake you know, I don't think I've ever seen such a large body of water. I'm sure you've seen things like the ocean all the time, right?"

"Really?" Jericho asked, slightly surprised, though he supposed he shouldn't be. Lots of people could go entire lifetimes without seeing a large body of water. So many people on Pern never left their homes, or when they did travel, went a-dragonback so they simply disappeared from one place and reappeared in another without seeing everything in between.
"Yeah, this river is a pretty decent size." Jericho remarked as they paused to look at the rushing current from a slight rise "A drop in the pond compared to the ocean, but it can be just as dangerous if you're not careful." he said as they continued on towards the beach after a moment.
"You can see the other side of the river from here, but when you're on the beach of an ocean, its just water from you out to the horizon." Jericho mused aloud.
They were fast approaching the sandy beach and the tall man hunkered down a bit so he wouldn't stand out so much as they entered some low lying scrub that ran right up to the sands. Brushing a few branches aside, Jericho held up a finger to his lips to indicate that panata should be quiet before peering through the bush. There was the clutch, laid out nice as could be, the Queen sound asleep on the opposite side of it from them, massive and golden in her somnolence.
'There they are' Jericho mouthed silently as he moved slightly so that the boy could get a better view.

Panata felt his breath catch in his throat the moment the eggs came into view. They were so large, so beautiful, and it made him feel excited and terrified all at the same time. Excited because yes - there are dragons, but terrified because they were dragons. He moved his hand to his mouth to prevent him from saying anything else, should he want to make sound, and he swallowed deeply.
A nod was pretty much all he could manage as his eyes surveyed the clutch, counting each and every egg. This one was much larger than the one back at High Reaches, that was for sure. The eggs were bigger too, and more vibrantly colored. Would they hatch such large beasts that the dragonets at High Reaches could be considered runts? Even their lovely and large Sharath?
"Look at all of them. I....I wonder how much longer until they hatch."
Panata was whispering as well, daring not to move or blink. That Queen was HUGE.

"Don't know." Jericho whispered back, leaning slightly so he too could look through the opening through the bushes "They look pretty hard, so probably not long. Granted, I'm no expert."
Jericho looked at the eggs and wondered if there was one there for him as well, though he had a feeling that the Ghenzans would be less than pleased if he, a High Reaches candidate, impressed one of their precious dragons.
His blue eyes were eventually drawn back to the golden queen. Her coloring was not so vibrant as Sharaths, for all that she was larger than even their senior queen back at high reaches. Ghenzan dragons maybe have been larger, but the ones from High Reaches were the more handsome creatures, he thought.
Jericho tapped Panata on the shoulder and jerked his head, signalling that they should back off as he saw the Queen begin to stir. He doubted she had heard them, but better safe than sorry.

Panata gave a small yelp of surprise has a hand touched his shoulder, and he nearly jumped straight up to his feet and gave away where they were. It was only because he was rather rooted to the spot that he stayed down, though his head quickly turned to look over at the man who touched him. He had a hand on his chest, breathing softly, as he nodded that perhaps it was a good idea to move along. Loitering was a very, very bad idea.
"Should we be heading back? The sky is getting a little darker and I...I'm not sure how these people would handle me walking all over their 'hospitality'."
He backed up from the hiding spot, taking his time as to not make so much noise, and when he got far enough away he rose to his feet and dusted his elbows and knees. It was easier to stay clean and look presentable, if only for arguments' sake.
"I...I would love to see what happens at this hatching, you know? It's been so long since the one at High Reaches occurred, I've almost forgotten what a dragonet looks like. Silly, don't you think?"
