Sharath rumbled at that, entertained as well, though for entirely different reasons then the one Sakneth had spoken. The bronze certainly was confident in himself but the gold remained cautious in her acceptance of those sentiments - there were no personal reasons for Sakneth, after all, and it would be a matter of.... business, she supposed. And business meant he saw the colour of her hide rather then the character of her mind - she'd chosen Amelia because the woman wasn't interested in hide colour and she'd be cursed if she would allow herself, or Hers, to be taken advantage of.

Harumphing at the bronze's next sentiment, it seemed, perhaps, that she agreed with him and had not been made suspicious.

Amelia, also eavesdropping, sighed from where she was leaning against the gold's chest and smoothed a hand over a golden forelimb. She knew there were two things that bothered Sharath: being called small or assumed weaker because of her smaller stature, and being seen only for the colour of her hide. Both of which Amelia thought were rightful reasons to be upset.

The mines do not always need more miners, despite Mine being a Journeyman. It is foolish to reject talent and yet they do.

Sakneth's smugness came in waves to B'shir, who was almost as amused by that as he had been at his dragon's deviation from his usual manner. He was tempted to point out to Sakneth that you caught more flies with honey than with vinegar, but decided against it. He would let Sakneth bask in his own glory. Sometimes B'shir got tired of being the voice of reason and moderation in the relationship. It was exhausting to be in a constant state of trying to hold such a strong-minded dragon back. There were days when he wondered what would happen if he just let Sakneth have is way, but he never did. He had a duty to his Weyr, and that included keeping Sakneth on a short leash when necessary.

B'shir, you are being rude. You should come say hello to Amelia's, Sakneth chided, clearly riding the waves of smugness to impressive heights.

Maybe later.

To Sharath Sakneth repeated with querying inflection, They do not always need more miners? Either they do or they do not. They should make up their minds. I don't like that they have B'shir working on the farms, but I think I prefer that to being yanked hither and yon.

Fueled by his distaste for Ghenza, it wasn't difficult for Sakneth to come up with suspicions for why a goldrider might be treated so poorly, Perhaps it is another power game that they are playing with you and your rider. Maybe you should put your foot down and demand that she be permanently assigned to one task or the other

After all, weren't golds supposed to be the people who boss others around?

They do not always need Mine. She corrected with a growl, I do not like it either but she will not listen to me, I've asked for that already but Mine will not budge. I think she likes the mines and believes they would assign her to the fields in spite.

Amelia sighed at that and pushed against the gold, vying for her attention and spoke when the golden head tilted down to attend to her, Sharath, I don't like being tugged around. But I also don't mind the fields or the mines. You know this. I don't think it's some kind of game.

You are wrong, Mine. Sakneth has a point. I will speak to them, I'm tired of being treated as less. I am no runt. There was a finality to Sharath's voice that made Amelia sigh. The two of them were likely to get into much trouble here but she couldn't really argue with the logic of her dragon or the motive behind her actions. Equal treatment, at the very least... acceptance should be offered.

Sakneth could believe that Sharath's human might be assigned to the fields out of spite. He was half-convinced that was why B'shir was there. Just because he didn't have a craft didn't mean he hadn't any skills more useful than grunt labor. They could have at least put him to work doing a rider's tasks, like repairing harnesses or something. It frosted Sakneth to see his human wasted.

Perhaps you should try asking someone else. Not their senior gold. She would be spiteful, I think. But isn't there another one who can do anything? Surely there is someone with authority in this stupid place.

He checked quickly with B'shir, but his human wasn't actually sure what the hierarchy here was either. He'd been born and raised in the Weyr. He was used to following the directives of a weyrleader, and faced with anything else he was at a loss. He could only suggest the lordholder, with the caveat that he probably wouldn't like to be bothered after he'd already agreed to take the clutch in.

As if they're doing us a favor, Sakneth hissed. He didn't bother to make it private, and so Sharath probably heard it, too. I can't wait to go home.

B'shir sighed and with an effort he pushed himself to his feet. If he didn't move, he wouldn't be able to, and he supposed he really should say something to Amelia, even if all he did was apologize for his dragon getting hers all riled up.

Sharath sighed. She had no idea about the hierarchy here. The golds were supposed to lead the dragons but... it seemed like they were workhorses here, muzzled and leashed moreso then her peers in the other Weyrs. It rubbed the young queen entirely the wrong way. Even the bronzes seemed like 'one of the guys' as Amelia had put it - it was incredibly strange for the 'royal' queen.

The Weyrleader, perhaps. Sharath didn't sound thrilled with having to curry favour with the top bronze... it was frustrating looking up at a bronze never mind being the same size. It only reminded her of her small stature. Her eyes whirled with irritation at that thought.

Neither can I. The gold returned, tensing as she grew ready to set off on another round of complaints - a round Amelia cut off by standing and pushing against her dragon's chest.

"Hey, that's enough badmouthing the hosts. You need some oil and a meal, let's go get you some, hm?" The goldrider's firm hands did little to make the gold move but she rose nonetheless and and turned away from the bronze with an irritated grunt.

We will speak later, Sakneth. I will see some change is had.

"Bye Sakneth!" Amelia called, smiling as she waved, leading the gold away. Really... the young queen was too given to complaining, especially about the golds. Honey caught more flies then vinegar, after all, but she still had to learn that that applied to golds as well as the other colours.

Sakneth could understand Sharath's reluctance to speak with the Weyrleader's bronze. He certainly wouldn't want to speak with him. He was probably a colossal git, like the rest of the dragons here, which were all so large he couldn't really tell them apart. Their defining characteristic was just their abnormal, freakishly huge size, rather than personality or markings.

The bronze looked down at Sharath's human, startled by her interruption and a little offended as well. She had no right to interrupt when dragons were talking. She was only a human, after all, and a female one at that. But he let it go for the time being. He had mostly spent the worst of his anger. For the time being. He had no doubt that the morrow would bring fresh offenses. The last few hadn't disappointed in that respect.

It is good to know that, he answered his clutchmate. Good luck with the Weyrleader.

He did not respond to Amelia's farewell, but waited until she had turned around at least before turning himself.

We have finished, and you are slow. I hope you haven't offended Sharath's rider, Sakneth informed B'shir. Come. Let's go back to that hovel they make you sleep in, instead of a proper weyr.

B'shir sighed and walked beside his dragon. He hoped the complaining session had helped, and not merely added fuel to Sakneth's fire.
