"Very good advice," he said, clapping his hands together a few times to push a little more blood into them. "That last thing I want is to lose something. That would make things mighty tricky later in life!" His comment was rounded off by a laugh, and he jumped up and down a couple of times to promote the blood flow throughout his body.
The squeak from within this other boy's coat made him jump. "Ah!" he exclaimed in surprise. Well, I'm a little bit warmer now, sure and I am... Once the surprise passed over him, realization hit. "Have a firelizard tucked in there, I see?"

"Ah, yeah. I'm trying to get her to act as a body warmer but she won't stay still, so I thought I'd remind her of the outside temperature. It worked, but more like a forked tail would in the fact it bit me back too. I'm pretty sure I'll never get warm again."
Yulu grinned beneath her furs, her hand still holding her collar out slightly. There was a puff of smoky air that came from the neckline as whatever was inside moved to come up or out, and slowly a little Golden head poked itself over and a set of yellow eyes glanced out at the youth. It was cold, Song was cold!
"And this is Song."

"Yeah, letting out that body heat... That'll freeze you nice you nice and solid!" He laughed, which was accompanied by a shiver that all but wiped the smile from his face in an instant. "Oh! It's a gold!" he said in surprise. Since he wasn't around firelizards all that much, he was always impressed to see golds - just as he was impressed to see gold dragons. They're just as important to firelizards as they are to dragons, though... Except that their greens clutch, so they're a lot more common in general. He peered at the firelizard for a moment, not being able to help his smirk at just how similar she was to a dragon in general.

"Yeah, don't know how I managed to get one. Guys like me usually have horrible luck when it comes to the egg lotto, but this little lady here must have been destined to be with me. She's always at my side, be it in my shirt or on my shoulders, and I'm waiting for when she decides it's time to fly. I can only handle so much more of her weight now that she's full-grown. If she decides to get any bigger I think my neck will snap against her weight."
Yulu gave a gentle stroke to Song's exposed head with one of her fingers, the Gold's eyes closing in pleasure for a moment before she tucked her head back down inside the s**t and Yulu closed her collar completely. She was almost frozen just for letting her flitt get some air, but it was mildly worth it.
"I'd like for her to start flying and maybe give a hand at an actual Flight. Flitt eggs sell well."

"Full grown and doesn't fly yet?" he asked, his brows raised in surprise. He didn't know all that much about firelizards, but he was fairly certain they began flying pretty early... At least before they were nearly full grown. "Well, I guess you have to let them go at their own pace, huh?"
His comment about selling the eggs made him chuckle, and he surely didn't doubt it, despite his opinion about the whole sale idea in general... "I s'pose that would be beneficial," he said mildly, a smile in his face. "A few extra marks never hurt anyone."

"Yeah, better to let her move at her own pace than force her into something and tear a wing. Golds are precious and she's as pretty as they come, I'd hate to be the real reason behind her lack of soaring above me. I gotta admit though carrying her around can be more fun then just letting her soar above my head, as I always know where she is. I've never had to wonder where she's gone off too, except during the Touching. Had to leave her behind, but she stayed good in the Barracks."
Yulu smiled as she got a chuckle from the other about making money, though rather it was a grin of plotting. People would always want flitts, and flitts would always clutch. There was no doubt about that - it was almost as sure as the seasons.
"You can't blame a guy for wanting a few more here and there. If I were to become a rider leathers won't be cheap when it comes to repair them, not to mention the money for oils and salves for my hands and the dragon. There's plenty to think of where having more is really more."

"Yeah, I can't imagine a gold would be too happy to have firelizards flitting around during something as important as a Touching..." Kaatan heaved a heavy sigh of exertion and stretched his muscles once again. They weren't cold, being heated by the work, but the pressing weather wasn't allowing them to stretch and loosen all the way as he kept them tense in an attempt to stay warm.
"I never thought of it being that expensive," he said thoughtfully, glancing up and a soaring dragon overheard for just a moment. "I mean, you're right... I just never thought of it like that..." I guess I just take the supplies for granted, since you never hear about riders not having what they need... But they must cost something!

"I think we don't think too hard on it because it's not something we have to worry about as Candidates, and some of it is even provided when we become riders. I just know that some riders prefer to get their own supplies and work everything themselves just to know its all secure. Better safe then sorry ya know, and who can you trust to make something you'd depend on if not yourself?"
Yulu rubbed her hands together as she breathed a puff of warm against them, the tips of her fingers showing slightly blue at the skin she exposed by pulling out a wrapping. They weren't numb and she could still move them, but the blue was a funny change of pace for digits normally red in hue.
"Anyway, enough talk about that. You think of something for us to say, I'm not all brains."

Kaatan exhaled heavily, squinting his eyes slightly against the cloud of wet, warm air that blew into his face before it managed to dissipate into the air. "You're clearly the better conversationalist of us," he teased, clapping him on the shoulder and he watched the supervisors check over the pens. The last few Candidates still stuffing hay into pens filed out and rejoined the thickly clumped group, blowing on their hands from over furs blocking their faces.
"Hey, I think we're done here... Wonder what they'll have us do next." He shifted his heavy coat on his shoulders and buried his hands in the pockets, burrowing his face up to the bottom of his eyes behind the collar. "I wish they'd just let us go inside!"

Thankfully it seemed like the other Candidate's wish was coming true, for as soon as the pens had been checked over the group was gathered together and told that it was getting too cold out to continue work as it were. They'd be let inside to warm up for a bit before being ushered back out, which suited Yulu just fine. She was cold, Song was cold.
"Looks like we won't have to worry too much about it after all. It's almost perfect timing too seeing as I can barely feel the tips of my fingers. They're pretty important to me."
Yulu rubbed her hands together in an effort to get the blood flowing, though she knew the best thing now was probably a fireplace or some warm water. They weren't yet in a stage of hypothermia but that didn't make it any less painful.
"When we get in you should come with me, let's get warmed up properly."

"Agreed," he said, wincing and he flexed his fingers. The motion made them sting, though it was reassuring that he could feel the pain, as opposed to nothing at all.
As the supervisors led them out and back toward the weyr, he smirked at Yulu, "Properly?" It seemed like whoever this was knew a lot about healing - probably came from Healer Hall, realistically - but he couldn't help but imply the bawdy with his tone.

"Properly means don't go in there and just shed all your clothes. you need to get used to the temperature in front of the fire before you start to strip or else you'll end up hurting yourself. But whatever."
Yulu sighed and started towards the tunnels when all the others began to move in one massive group, deciding that it may just be best to go and take a bath to get all warmed over. While standing in front of the fireplace sounded good to also dry the wet cold from the furs she wore an all-over body dunk into something steaming hot was more appealing.
"Actually, I think I'm going to jet out and go take a bath - something I don't think you'd enjoy accompanying me on. I'll see you around though, perhaps at the hatching? Good luck to us both."
That was all she said (did she even get his name or give her own?) before Yulu moved up and away from the little herd of Candidates, her legs taking her to the destination she was bound for.
