She took the clipboard, looked at the price, and nodded. That was a good price, a bit below what Uncle Ivan had expected. It was within her budget, anyway, and she nodded. "Thank you, I would appreciate that," she said, reading over the form entirely and then handing it back to Hank.

Then, with a worried frown, she leaned over to stare at the two of them. Ladon was her friend, thought Tate peevishly; and this girl didn't sound like she was being kind to him at all. He sounded defensive, and worried, and she tried to pull the concerned look off her face just to wave and smile.

"I--yeah, I have to get him back home before dark, hopefully," she said, "his mom is kind of fussy..."

Once he had the clipboard back, Hank had to pause to push his glasses up before pulling up a pen and putting a small X on the form. Once more, he directed it to the girl. "I just need your John Hancock here and we can get Phil started on that for you!"

Ellie's gaze went from her usual lazy one to a slightly more questioning one when Ladon spoke. She had caught the year and model, which weren't really that impressive to her (she had observed on older cars before), but this boy was really clueless about the laws when it came to working in a garage.

"Uh... ya are aware I don't work 'ere, right? I can't legally get hired 'ere until I'm 18." One brow rose up slightly as she paused before she continued the explanation. "I just hang out 'ere t'observe so I can pick up more tricks fer when I am able t'work someplace like this."

Once more, she paused before pointing through the garage entryway towards the red head once again reading his magazine. "That douchebag is th'one who's gonna be checkin' th'car out." For using such a rough label for her friend and mentor, she had a rather large grin on her face. Phil didn't care if Ellie called him names. Just meant he'd call her names right back.

It almost seemed as if she was ignoring the mention of her lack of friends of her own gender when she rather staunchly stated "Never wanted to." Her shoulders rolled into a shrug before she hoisted herself up from the entryway she'd been leaning against. "Guess I can meet yer lil' girlfriend if ya want me ta." She didn't sound interested, but she at least offered the brunette a slight wave of the hand.

The look he received back showed that in no time at all, Ladon’s ability to keep his total lack of knowledge concerning garages hidden had failed him. The gig was up, and now he was standing as Ellie pointed out that she was not old enough to work on the car. He let out a short ‘oh’ and then went quiet. While he knew about workers permits and how old you had to be to get a job, he thought it was far more lax in a garage such as this. His impression had been, seeing as Ellie seemed to have friends here, that she could come in and work side by side with a mechanic. This was enforced by the idea that many father figures let their sons or nephews of any age work on cars with them in classic scenes of bonding, leaning over open hoods and laughing at they barely avoided a squirt of oil. These were all ideas he had concocted, never having such an experience. His father didn’t dally in that sort of thing, and even if he had, Ladon hadn’t been the type to skip for joy at the mention of overalls and toolboxes. When a car broke down or acted funny at his house, someone would drive it to the garage and leave it there with him either waiting in the other car or at home.

“So…you come here when you have free time?” He glanced around and there was no mistaking the expression of ‘why’ on his face.

Part of him was about to gesture and go ‘ladies first’, but he caught himself and didn’t. Instead, he moved forward, heading towards Tate and waiting patiently till Hank was done. When the paperwork was out of the way, Ladon stepped forward. “Ellie Spectre, this is my friend Tate Konstantin. Tate, this is Ellie. She’s a…” He had no idea what Ellie was. Some girl he ran into that had bragging rights over him till the day he either died or won the unscheduled rematch. “….I sorta know her.”

She signed the clipboard, smiled at Hank--"Thanks so much, I appreciate it," she said--and then she hurried to stand next to Ladon. Between two girls of similar height, he looked even smaller than usual. All this did was make her feel more inclined to step between the blonde girl and her friend.

Tate set a possessive hand on Ladon's shoulder, met Ellie's eyes firmly. It was against character for her--but she felt that her friend might need her, and was afraid that that same friend might have a friend that he liked more than her, which was not something to be borne. Ever.

"It's nice to meet you, Ellie," said Tate. "You're the metal shop girl, aren't you?"

Yeah, so she tended to hear more things than she participated in. So what?

It was a good thing that Ladon was starting to get the hang of dealing with Ellie. She easily would have made a fuss if he had tried to pull any of that "girl" stuff on her. She followed Ladon and stopped when they were close enough to the brunette. Introductions were had, and in all honesty, the girl was not so impressed.

That was until Tate correctly pulled out Ellie Spectre's claim to fame.

Two respect points for Tate. Ellie mentally chalked this up. Even though the blonde had grease on her hand, she still thrust it out for a handshake. "Yeah, that's me! Nice t'meet'cha Tate!"

The rather possessive gesture did not go unnoticed with her, and she was very tempted to call her Ladon's girlfriend again. However, those respect points were already getting cashed in. In exchange for respect points, the teasing title would be omitted. Conversationally, she offered "So, yer a senior if I remember correctly, right?" Ellie wasn't in everyone's face, but she tended to recognize who was in her grade level, who was above her grade level, and who was below her grade level. She had seen the brunette around before, and she was not a junior like Ellie. She was older, and since there was only one grade level above junior, it somewhat limited what grade level Tate was in.

Before the conversation got too long and drawn out, Hank interjected for a moment as politely as he could. "Excuse me. Tate, if I could get your keys, then we will get started right away." We being Phil and Ellie (if the girl was done with her conversation).

Ellie seemed to have a title, one which he didn’t know of until after he talked to her. He shouldn’t have been surprised. Rarely did he bother to know was who, and usually everyone he passed in the hallways were strangers to him. If he remembered every Billy, John, and Susie, he would only have his head full of people he did not know aside from what everyone else knew, and that was about as far as it would ever go. It was better to preoccupy his time discarding these random tidbits of information until he actually met the person. A peg more of a social butterfly, Tate actually knew people and their introductions were already underway.

The hand on his shoulder didn’t go unnoticed, but he more or less felt as if they were posing for a portrait than anything else. At least she wasn’t using her elbow to try and lean on him. As far in introductions went, he could care less what happened at this point. He really didn’t know Ellie after all, and they were just here on business. Looking over, he watched at Tate gave up her keys and was glad that the repairs would now be underway.

He didn't want to interrupt, but he had a question. There was no point in trying to pretend he knew anything now. "Do we just wait here or do we go into the garage?" He didn't know which one was worse.
