Kisun wiggled slightly as the cub leaned on her. Cubs, even biggish ones, were fun! So long as they weren't sad, and she and Keena could help fix this one's sad. If she was lonely, she wouldn't be with a couple of friends!
"The stars?" the hare asked, "Oooh, I've seen stars that zoom across the sky. Maybe one fell?" the excitable little creature suggested, twisting to glance up at Keena. She'd never met a star before, but it made some sense she supposed. The little cub was such a bright shade of white, like the distant pinpoints of light.
Keena wasn't sure it worked like that with the stars, though it might've been interesting. But who knew, she wasn't one to claim she knew everything about this world. In fact, she hardly knew anything! But it was still nice to be a part of it. So maybe this little cub really was a little star.
"Well...do you want to be a star?" the lioness asked softly, before brightening. "Star sounds nice, we could call you that if you wanted. It could be your name while you're with us." It was a good idea, or at least, she thought so.

The young lioness was pleased at the happy bunny acceptance of her own need for comfort. It felt odd, cuddling up to a creature which was smaller than she was but it was nice. It felt good having someone care whether she was okay and trying to make her feel better.
Her eyes went wide. "Falling stars?" She gasped, a memory nagging at the back of her mind, making her wince. "I...I've seen those too. They're really pretty," she admitted, trying to figure out what the other memory was, but it was illusive and continued to slip from her grasp and taunt her with only flashes of stars.
She looked surprised, and shyly peered up at the lioness. "Star? I..." she paused, before giving her a tiny smile. "I like it...Star." She glanced at the hare. "D-do you like it?" She didn't want to choose a name that her first friend didn't like!

"I like it," Kisun approved brightly, wriggling a little under the little while lioness' cuddles. "It's a nice sort of name." Something pretty, but still easy to remember. And it was a reminder too, in case she ever forgot that her first memories were of stars. Of course, if she remembered all the way, it would make a sweet little nickname.
"See? Now you have a name."
The little one's confusion worried her, but there wasn't anything she could do about it. Besides, she didn't seem hurt, or in pain, or ill or anything like that. Just lost and lonely. Those two ailments were things Keena was well able to mend.
"Well then, Star, you're welcome to stay with us if you'd like," Keena offered, inching slightly closer to the older cub. She wanted to cuddle and comfort her, but had no desire to frighten the poor child, and Star had certainly seemed nervous of her before.
The lioness had never thought she would simply find a cub, and something nagged in the back of her mind. Her mother had forgotten her and growing up without that kind of guidance left...gaps...in her knowledge. Nothing a day-to-day basis would make difficult, just a few more intimate things really. But...cubs had mommies, and Star didn't seem to. Maybe Keena was supposed to be her mother? There were some similarities, pale fur and golden eyes. It was close enough for her, especially with no other adults around to claim the cub.
It made sense, Star had to belong with someone. A soft rumbling purr rose in her throat as the lioness laid her head on her paws. Was this a cub for her? Truly? Family was something she had always wanted... and now it seemed like one had just dropped from the sky for her.

Star's smile was brighter now, as she beamed at her new friend, who liked her name! "I have a name?" She said, wiggling pleased, unconsciously mimicking the way the bunny had wiggled when she'd tried to cuddle her.
She glanced at the elder lioness, pleased at her help to choose her new name! She paused a little, eying her. She...didn't seem threatening. Star wasn't even aware of why she had been so worried earlier. The lioness was so nice. She looked a little uncomfortable for a moment, before moving closer to the lioness as the female laid her head on her paws. The purr that Keena gave was so comforting, and Star couldn't resist laying next to her, pressing against the fluffy side of the elder female. Warmth. She'd missed it. "Thank you," she told the lioness quietly. For being nice. For the name. For letting her stay. For everything. She pressed her cheek against the lionesses' side, the purr resonating around her and relaxing her tense muscles.

"Yes, yes!" Kisun chirrped, happy that the cub was happy at last. Or...she was big for a cub. But she was still a little one, and little ones deserved all the fun they could get. They didn't deserve to be sad or upset. They should be happy while they had the chance to be small and sweet and innocent...
Keena just smiled at her little friend and the young lioness as they spoke. She'd never thought the hare would bring a youngling back with her, but this one seemed to have needed it. Poor little Star, being alone was hard. Especially when one was so young.
She was perfectly still as the older cub approached her, not moving for fear of frightening the little one again. Her heart swelled until she thought it must surely explode when she felt Star curl up beside her. Maybe she really was hers.
"You're welcome," Keena purred softly, nuzzling the fluff of hair on Star's head gently, trying to resist the urge to curl up around the small warm body pressed against her side.
...FIN?
