"... Pinky promise." It wasn't agreement - not yet - but rather trepidation. The last time someone had asked Sue for a pinky promise, he hadn't known how to tie his shoelaces - and despite what some folk might say about his level of intelligence, that was still a long friggin' time ago.
But here Elke was - pinky out, blissfully ignorant of how kindergarten she sounded in demanding her silly little pinky promise. And there was Sue, seized by a bizarre worry that someone might walk in and catch him in the act if he were to accept it. (His teenage priorities might have been somewhat askew at that moment.)
What else could Sue do, though? It wasn't like the deal itself was entirely objectionable - spending the day with Elke might not be his idea of a party, but the pictures might help him in some way. Even if they didn't do anything to recover any of his memories, at least he'd get to learn what he didn't remember, right? So, distasteful as the gesture was, he gave a grim nod and stuck out his pinky, wrapping it around Elke's and giving it a fair pump. "I promise." And the instant the gesture was done, he snaked back his hand and stuffed it back in his pocket, embarrassed.

She sighed, exasperated. "Yes, pinky promise!" Why did everyone seem to think it was so immature? It wasn't! Elke didn't do everything for no reason. Some things she did, she actually thought about, you know!
No one walked in as they pinky swore on it; the world didn't end, the ceiling didn't fall down, Aries didn't pop out of nowhere and yell GET BACK TO WORK. It was depressingly normal, except for Elke's cheerful smile.
"Okay, so..." She crossed back to her bed and picked up the kitten, held him out to Sue. "Can you tell me what's wrong with him?"
