The ocean. The large green lion looked over the waters with a faint smile. He had nearly been lost to it once before. Yet the pull of his own home had called him back from the shores. Sorrow filled his gaze, now that plant sanctuary was gone.

So what was holding him back now?

Looking at his traveling companion, Pattin found his resolve. If she was okay with this then he was definitely willing to go into the waves. Though he never would openly admit it, the lion would do anything for her. Including joining this pride that called to him so strongly.

For her. Pattin reminded himself one more time before stepping into the cool waters. Slowly he took each step until he was swimming. And then it came - the wave covered the large lion completely emergining him in the water. For a moment bubble of panic erupted, until he realized that it was fine. He was floating back above the waters again.

Grinning the lion turned and started swimming back to shore. Back to the pride, to her, to his home.

The ocean. Ellie had never seen a body of water so VAST. And yet...she held no fear of it, only awe. And hope. Hope that this place, with lions who had welcomed she and Betta and their cubs with open paws, would become their new home. A place to raise their family in peace, and safety. She took a few steps into the water, feeling its coolness break through her thin fur and hit her skin. Perhaps her fur would thicken, the longer she lived here.

Ignoring the cold, she continued forward, knowing Betta would be beside her, or not far behind. They did everything side-by-side, after all. This would be no different. And perhaps...it was even more important that they did this one thing together. Deeper the water got, and she stopped when her head was barely over the water...and she waited. The tide came in, and the waters grew higher. She didn't hesitate, simply closed her eyes and took a final breath. And then the waters rushed over her.

For a few seconds, she stayed under the water...and then she kicked up and let her head break the surface, eyes opening again and lungs taking another breath. She looked to her mate, and then started to swim back, a bright grin on her face. Back to her new home, back to her cubs who had watched from a safe distance with the leaders. She was home.

Moso had seen the ocean a few times, only from afar. He had heard of it many times in late night whisperings and tales of passer byers, but now he actually stood before the cerulean waves, waiting to test himself against its nature. He had been welcomed by friendly paws, to a pride he felt an unexplainable connection too, yet a connection he wanted to discover. But in time, that all had to wait upon if he could pass the rites of the Bahari or not.

His deep blue eyes stared into the waters, watching the sand trickle away as the waves licked the shore, then rolled lazily back into the ocean. He knew the waters would not be as calm as his eyes led him to believe. The ocean was a tricky being, much like any creature could be. And yet, he felt no reason to plan ahead. To think out each and every step, for in reality, that would be utterly useless. Instead, he decided to just go with it, and let the waves and his heart lead him where he needed to be.

Gingerly setting one heavy paw into the waters, he proceeded to do this action again, and again, until his paws could no longer set foot upon the sandy earth beneath him. Instead, he let the currents take him out as far as they pleased. The salty water washed over his head, soaking his mane, but each time he just held his breath and let the waves push him farther and farther out. For a moment, he lay suspended beneath the waters after a particularly large tidal current, and as he blinked open his eyes, he beheld a world like he had never seen before. One beneath the waters teaming with life of all kinds. Though the male held wisdom beyond his appearance, he had only been fortunate to hear of such things, never see them. And now....before his eyes, they swam, painting the waters with their many colors. For once in his life, he felt truly at peace.

Mosomedve would have been content to linger there....if not for the fact that he lacked gills and needed to return for air. With a powerful push of his hind legs, he shot himself up towards the surface. Once his head emerged from beneath the waters, a smile spread across his muzzle from ear to ear. With tired, yet still heavy strokes, the brown male began his swim back to shore, back to his new pride and his new leaders who had watched him every step of the way.

The instant he set his soaking wet paws upon the sand, he stared hard at them. Flexing his toes gently in and out a few times, he raised his head towards the sky and took a deep breath. Today was the start of a new life for Moso. The beginning of a new adventure. He finally had a place that he could truly call home.

It had been a long journey. Having originally planned to follow the coastline north Talu veered off. But now she was here facing the great ocean once again. Her journey had lead her here, to the lands of the Bahari'moto. She smiled lightly as a breeze whipped up, the petals of the hibiscus fluttered slightly.

She had a good feeling about this pride. She hoped this was the right one. What was about to happen will determine that. Taking one step after the other she approached the ocean. Then the water came rushing up to her and splashed against her front paws. Talutah took a few more steps and then paused. She shook her head and with a set of determination she kept moving forward. The waves came up to mid leg. The salty water brushed against her breast and belly. The water splashed against her chin. Soon Talutah had to stretch to feel the sand but soon no more, she raised her head to keep it above the waves.

A large wave came up and came down upon Talutah sending her below. She paddled her feet but soon stopped. Despite the salty sting, Talutah opened her eyes to behold the world beneath the blue waves. A wondrous and vast place. She watched as she exhaled and bubbles came from her mouth and floated upward.

Talutah paddled towards the surface just as her lungs started to burn. The surface at first seemed to keep getting farther but soon if rush towards her. Talutah broke through the surface and took a gasp and sucked in air. She looked about and sighted the beach, turning she paddled back to land. Once there she shook herself off. The sand gushed between her toes.

Talutah took a look back towards the ocean. It didn't kill her. It let her live. Now it was time to find her place with in the pride.

[Insert Bettas image here, will after work]
Water had always been his forte'. He had always felt more at home, more at peace, around the water. He imagined it was the way he had been raised, and his namesake. His entire family had been named after fish, and in turn, he had grown to have an admiration of the water that could rival any fishes love of it. Unlike Ellie, Betta had been raised around water that had been vast and seemingly neverending. It was one of the things he loved about it, its ominous mystery. Where did it end? And where did it begin? He wasnt sure but honestly it didnt matter. He was happy just the same. He held no fear of the water, and never had. His paws were warmed by the sand as he neared the shoreline.
Taking one step into the water, then another, the male began walking forward. He didnt turn to look behind him, merely pushed himself forward in an attempt to achieve the rites that Ellie had had to do with him. He wasnt sure why the water wasnt as gaspingly cold as it had been for Ellie, but he felt comfortable. He supposed maybe it was his large size, and the fact that he did have a bit more fur than Ellie did it seemed. His paws finally lifted off the sandy floor, and his paws were off the earth. He floated in the water, paddling with his front legs as he swam. He looked in front of him, watching Ellie achieve her position for himself. He felt pride overwhelm him and he continued on. Wouldnt do to be shown up by his pretty little mate now
would it?

He couldnt say that watching her go under the waters didnt send him into a panic, but he breathed and relaxed. He wasnt far behind, if he had to, he'd save her.
When she emerged, he released his held breath and smiled. He could continue and get this over with now. When Ellie swam by him on her way to shore, he smiled to her, and then looked as a large wave started forming. Beelining towards him, the water got to him quickly, and swooshed over his head. He held his breath under the water, eyes shooting open. He looked around, the salt water burning his eyes, but he could make out the shapes of rocks. Once he had been there long enough, the malepushed himself up, and took a deep breath once he reached the surface. Beaming with pride, he began his travel back to the shore, where his mate now watched, cubs curled around her paws. Life was good, and he couldnt have been happier.

Mina looked out at the ocean before her she wasn't nervous or scared for what was to come. She however looked at the shining shell that dangled from her neck the last time she had gone into the water she had lost it.

Pushing this from her mind she closed her eyes tightly and took a deep breath making up her mind if she lost it again then she was never meant to have it in the first place. She began walking her paws first touched the cold wet sand and then the rush of a wave hit al the way up to her mid leg but she didn't falter. Pressing on she moved out into the water her mind began to swell with memories of her previous pride of her children and of the love she had shared for them and others. She opened her eyes and starred at the water rushing to her.

"That was all the past the new me will come." She said to herself before she shut her eyes letting the water rush over her. The memories slowly began to fade from her mind as new hope of being part of a pride once more filled her. She smiled softly feeling the chest against her neck be tossed about from the wave.

"Its alright if you leave..." She said opened her eyes to look at the shell that caused her so much pain and happiness when she looked at it. "I will not go after you this time." She said as the chain broke and the shell washed out to the sea. She didn't expect the next wave to be so high that it lifted her up off her feet a moment. She smiled and laughed only to get pelt with another wave that swallowed her. She closed her eyes just time as the wave hit. She stayed under as long as her lungs would allow before she used her strong paws to take her to the surface.

She was apart of them now she smiled as she began to make her way back to the shore. Her feet touched the dry sand and she didn't mind her pelt would soon be covered in more dry sand that wanted to stick to her wet fur. Something hit her foot as one last big wave rushed to shore it was her necklace.

Ripuki took a deep breath of the fresh ocean air, laughing lightly to herself as she swayed along the beach. Her movements were natural, movements of a lioness who'd lived at the beach her whole life. The day was beautiful, the sky seemed endless and blue and the ocean crashed gently at the shoreline in an inviting manner. She couldn't have asked for a more lovely day for her Ba'Ushufo. Ah... well, she supposed it would be more like Ba’Bandika, but it did not seem to phase Ripuki even a little. It had been so long, she'd probably been the oldest 'child' ever to finally join adulthood. But none of it could be helped, they'd waited for her parents... her family... She shut her eyes for a moment and asked politely for her worries to leave her. They did. Today was not a day for sorrow, it was a day to rejoice and to celebrate. Today the sea would wash away the child Ripuki and return her as an adult, a full member! She purred as she moved toward the sea, those who should be by her side with her.

If only her mother could see her now! She would be proud, Ripuki could only hope to be able to tell this story to her... one day. Her tail flicked and she hummed under her breath as the water came closer and closer, and her paws carried her to greet the sea foam as an old friend might. As the gentle sway of the water tickled at her toes she giggled, glancing back nervously just once before she began to move into the salty water. It was odd, she'd grown up her whole life with the sea close by. She'd seen it when it was calm, when it raged... she could tell the days the ocean was feeling playful and when it warned lions not to enter it's depths. Today the ocean was hard to understand, it whispered sweet nothings at the same time it laughed out loud and beckoned. But Ripuki could not help but feel it was also warning, trying to get her to shy away. She took a deep breath as the cold water lapped at her chest, she'd headed quickly toward the depths.

No, she could do this. She was not afraid, whatever happened today was her fate. It would happen for a reason, this she believed. She giggled as spray brushed against her face, eyes shutting slightly as the bright sun beamed down on the waves of the ocean. She liked how her whole body seemed to sway with the rhythmic dance of the water. Yes, today she and the water were dancing partners. She wondered if it would be much different once the ocean embraced her and returned her back to her pride... would being an adult mean she couldn't run around chasing butterflies? Or playing with the cubs? Cubs were very cute. She blinked and coughed as a sudden wave pushed over her body, taking in a quick breath before she was pushed under the sea.

She struggled for only a few seconds, so caught off guard, but then she calmed as the water settled around her. She peaked open one eye, and then the other. She almost let go of the breath she was holding to gasp at the immeasurable beauty of the ocean depths. She knew that even more bizarre and wonderful sights were hidden in the very deep depths, but the shallows never ceased to amaze Ripuki.

She smiled slightly as she tried to stay under longer, trying to watch a small school of fish as they swam past. A few of the more curious ones seemed to come close, and she let her breath go as they started to nibble at her because it tickled, and she couldn't help the giggles that let the air leave her mouth. She swam toward the surface, it looked so pretty the way the sun dappled the surface, and then broke through. She coughed a little and her gaze flickered around as she panicked for a second, limbs working to keep her above the surface. Ah, there was the shore, there was her pride and her home. Her family. Maybe her immediate members were missing, for now, but the pride was just as much her family even if they were not blood. They were the ones who helped her, and who she helped. They were the ones who supported, and who she would support. She would work with them, and play with them. She would raise cubs with them, and help them raise their cubs...

She felt immensely warm even though the ocean water was very chilly. It was a warmth that centered in her stomach, and seemed to radiate through her blood. She purred even as she swam hard for the shore, gulping at air whenever one of the waves decided to play a little too roughly with her. It took her a much longer time to swim back to her home, back to the lions she loved. Her breath heaved in and out of her lungs when she finally felt her paws begin to hit the ground underneath the ocean's depths. Then it was a struggle to pull herself out of the water, to keep walking. She was so tired... she would need a long nap after this. In the sunlight so her fur would be kissed by the warmth and dry nicely... yes, that sounded very nice.

Her body swayed still as she finally was fully out of the water, she was a little shaky and she knew her muscles would be crying out in pain tomorrow. But today, today they would be fine. And right now, this very minute? Her heart was singing! Nothing else mattered but the swell of pride that had happened inside of her, the feeling of delight as she was finally out of the water she loved so much. She swayed as she stood and took a few steps toward the important lions, grinning from ear to ear. It felt like she was grinning from ear to ear, at least. "I've... I've finally done it..." She said softly. She was surprised to find that tears were sparkling in her eyes, surprised because she was not sad in the least. Well, that was not fully true. She would have liked for her immediate family to have seen her... to share in the feelings of pride and love and acceptance with her... but that was not what was making her cry, no.

She was finally perfect, in every way. She was finally a full fledged member of her pride, could finally help and play and just do everything and anything with the Bahari'mtoto! "Wooohoo!" She suddenly called out, laughing with the tears sliding down her cheeks at the same time. "I did it, I did it!" She called out, dashing the last few feet toward the royalty. When she got to them she slowed and bowed her head. "I did it." She said one last time, much quieter.

Madhura and Kaiala were both excited. They'd been planning this day for quite some times. As far as cousins were concerned, these two were some of the closest ones in the pride. It was like Madhura was Kaikala's sister instead of cousin. Both of them had nine brothers and sisters. The Bahari remembered the week in which Feana and Sabbia had their cubs, both of them having ten each. The nannies were overwhelmed when they had a total of twenty plus cubs to watch in one day! No one expected such big litters from the girls.

Without speaking, they both stepped into the calm waters, each taking their own time and relishing in the feel of the cold liquid against their warm skins. It was really hot today. They really couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.

Kaikala waded out a bit deeper than his cousin, but that was because he was taller than she was. Looking back at her, he beamed a huge, toothy grin and gave her a wink. "I'll race you to shore," he said, laughing before turning back to the rising tide.

She hated to admit it, but Madhura was a bit scared of what was going to happen. It meant putting her whole self at the mercy of the mother ocean. Lately, things had been good and calm. So why she was scared, she really didn't know.

Both of them held their breaths when the tide started rising. Their paw were picked up off the soft sand and both were swimming when a wave came over their heads, propelling them back to the shore. Swimming quickly, both cousins surface and sputtered before making their way back to the shore.

Now they were considered adults.

Sabbia, Kaikala's mother, was sitting there waiting for them, a whole crew of eighteen behind her to do the same thing the two just did. "I'm so proud of you two!"

The cousins just laughed and shook themselves off, sitting beside them to watch their families become real adults.

Kishima sat nervously with his mother as he watched his cousin and sister go into the water to complete their rites. he was pleased though that they completed their rites just fine when they finally came to shore and couldn't help but be proud of them. when it finally was his turn, he took in a deep breath before making his way into the water. he purposely went as far out as he could go out before he had to hold his breath and swim back to shore with the tide. when he finally made it solid land dripping wet, he gave a huge grin to his family as he was proud to finally be seen as a adult now and no longer be a child. "that was awesome!"

The pride had been in disarray for quite some time, the Tsunami having taken it's toll upon the lions within, and yet, life continued as normal to a certain degree. Having made his decision to remain within the pride, he had considered it only fitting that the first thing he should do, was pay his respects to the gods the Bahari'mtoto held so dearly. While not entirely 'necessary' given the circumstances, the old lion was one of honour and as a consequence, understood the importance of upholding the culture and traditions of the pride he had elected to stay with. It was the least that he could do, a quiet nod out of respect to those who had embraced him as family... a foreign concept to him after so many years in isolation.

Thus it was with a soft breath that the grey lion waded into the waters, large paws padding with ease across the firmer sands upon the ocean floor. Moving ever further away from the shores, it wasn't long before the waters began to take their hold and the under currents began to coil around his legs. At first, the male was forced to fight against the desire to resist the pull of the current and then...he understood. Closing his eyes, the lion relaxed and permitted the waters to take him...

Considerable distance was placed between himself and the shores as he was swept out - further and further, until at last one of the largest waves arched high over his head, cast him beneath it and introduced him to the world that lay below. Though the liquid might have stung his eyes, he simply couldn't deny the vast beauty that lay hidden from so much of the world - in those moments he developed a new appreciation for the world in which the Bahari embraced.

He saw it!

Alas, he wasn't given much longer to appreciate the view and as another wave cast itself above him, the ripple below knocked him forward and swept him back to the shore. Lungs burning, he at last began to paddle to the surface and thrust his nose above to gasp in a much needed breath - from here he moved towards the shore, encouraged by the nudge of the waves against his back.

It was only once he had reached the beach and felt the now familiar sand between his toes, that he glanced back over his shoulder towards the ocean - it had made its decision and in doing so, had permitted him to live. A nod towards his intentions to remain within the pride, he had been accepted by the ocean and as such, was free to find his place amongst them...
