Deneb snorted. "I could." she straightened up and tossed her head. "In fact I would!" she said looking down her nose at him. She took a few steps toward him swaying her entire body. She tossed her head again getting her forelock out of her eyes and leaning down getting dangerously close to those teeth. "Perhaps you'd like to test me?" she said shifting her weight subtly so that if he snapped at her she could easily lash out with her front hooves.
She knew she was playing a dangerous game, and with a Kalona no less, but as she stood there she felt no fear.

"Go ahead then." Xelloss not only smirked as he said this, but he stretched his neck out to make it a little easier. His fangs showed clearly in his wide smile. He didn't think that she actually would do such a thing... but maybe she was an odd sort of kirin. She had already fed him. Maybe she was the rare kirin that didn't hold life valuable. Could such a thing even exist?
"It would be my pleasure to corrupt a pretty little thing like you with my demise. I'm probably a goner anyways. At the very least, I can take your soul with me to whatever underworld awaits."
He watched her, waiting. She would not kill him... but the idea that he might be able to push one of the purest of breeds to such an act was far too exciting to ignore.

Deneb trembled slightly knowing that she was now at an impasse with the male. She either had to lash out at him or prove that she couldn't back up what she said. She stared into his eyes trying not to flinch as the blood still on his breath filled her nose.
She gagged slightly before finally letting her anger win out. She whinnied angrily rearing up and lashing out with her front hooves letting them pass so close to the stallion's face that she could feel the heat of his body, but never touched him.
She landed and spun away quickly glaring at him. She knew right then she should have at least struck him once. "Next time I will strike you." she hissed.

When he saw the hooves coming towards him Xelloss felt his heart start beating faster with excitement. Had he done it? Had he snapped the mare?
Apparently not. Excitement turned to disappointment when her blows didn't strike. He barely even listened as she gave him her fiery retort. "How dull," he sighed.
Without another glance at the mare he tore into his first rabbit. The blood pooled around his fangs each time they sunk in. Delicious. It was even still warm.

Deneb felt herself droop. He was disappointed in her and somehow she found she was disappointed in herself. She didn't know why his opinion should matter to her at all, but she suddenly felt like if she didn't find a way to come out on top, she'd never be able to live with herself.
She watched as he tore into the rabbits. She was slightly entranced and disgusted. She suddenly found a way to resolve her own failure to herself. She marched over and waited until he pulled away from carcass before leaning down grabbing the rabbit ignoring the blood now getting in her mouth. She snapped her head up quickly and tossed it just out of reach of the stallion, then picked up the second and did the same.
She quickly backed off and subconsciously licked her lips ignoring the coppery taste of blood. "Go get it." she smirked.

It had all been fun and games before. Now Xelloss was aggravated. He was weak. He was hungry. Now his food was out of reach and he was ticked off. His tail lashed once, sending up a small flurry of leaves. His violet eyes shot open and narrowed again almost instantly.
"If I get up to get those you had better believe that I'm going to want to take a bite out of something a little larger to make up for the effort. You'd better get ready to get bitten." His upper lip was curled back in frustrated anger. Right now his bark was certainly worse than his bite... but he'd see to it that she suffered.

"You would have to catch me first." she threw back at him. "And somehow I don't think you'll be able too." she flicked her tail dismissively. "Now you have to ask yourself how much further are you willing to push me?" she asked.
She watched him to see what he would do now, her heart racing in her chest. She was ready to run if she needed too, but a part of her was intrigued, it wanted to see him get up and loom over her. He was danger, excitiment, something she'd never had in her life before, and she wan- she squashed that part of her in revulsion. She knew right then she needed to get away from him before anything more than her integrity was called into question.
"So try it." she said huskily. "Well see how it goes."

Xelloss blew a tight puff of air out of narrowed nostrils. When he invited her to harm him she had flinched. He wouldn't do the same. He longed to hear her annoying voice cry out in pain. "Very well then," he said with a deadly quiet. "Let's end this."
He pulled his aching limbs beneath him, rocking forward to bring his back legs into place. His wings folded more neatly on his back. Slowly he rose. He could feel the tug of scabbed wounds breaking open again. His legs seemed as weak as tree twigs beneath him. Still he rose until he stood, now looking down upon the mare that had given him so much irritation.
"Now." His voice wasn't as strong as he would have liked. Pain gave it a definite tension. "How kind of you to remind me that I am actually still able to move. Just when I was feeling hungry, too." He watched her and as the leftover rabbit blood dripped from his mouth his own blood slowly trickled down his legs.

Deneb's eyes widened in shock. She didn't know what she'd expected but it certainly hadn't been for him to get up and move. She stared up at him unconsciously taking a step back. Even in his current state he was impressive.
Deneb suddenly felt as if she'd made a big mistake. She felt a rush of conflicting emotions, fear, awe, and a mix of others she didn't even want to consider before logic clicked back in and she spun quickly lashing out with her back hooves connecting with his chest before running as fast as she could. "Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid." she chanted to herself as she fled.

About the same mental chat was going through Xelloss' head. He couldn't possibly have dodged her hooves. He could barely even stand. The blow was enough to rock him backwards until his legs crumpled beneath him and he collapsed back to the ground. His injuries seemed to be screaming in protest and he could barely gasp in air from the wind being knocked out of him.
He thought he could hear the kirin running away, but he was hardly able to chase her in his current state.
For the moment he could only lie there gasping and cursing himself for his own impetuousness.

It wasn't until she'd put quite a bit of distance between her and the Kalona that she finally stopped sides heaving as she worked to catch her breath.
She leaned against a tree and panted closing her eyes. "Next time...ethics be damned..." she huffed. "Crush the wind pipe." she said finally catching her breath.
She looked around and saw a stream and went over getting a drink. She then took a deep breath and let it out slowly closing her eyes. Her memory flitting back without thinking to the stallion standing over her. He'd been magnificent, intimidating, powerful...he'd been...Deneb cut that line of thought off and gagged. "I've got to meet more stallions." she muttered to herself before flicking her tail and wandering off deep into the woods to lose herself for awhile.

Time passed and wounds closed. Xelloss now moved in the forest where he had met the kirin. He wasn't yet well enough to fly back to his mistress but he could hunt again. It was important at this stage for him to keep active he knew. He had seen kalonas who had lain around for the entirety of a recovery come out of it with wings that wouldn't unfurl or worse.
He certainly hadn't forgotten the irritating kirin. Her name had been a curse on his mind for the days after their encounter. Though he normally thrived off of idiot soquili who didn't believe kalonas to be dangerous he hadn't appreciated not being taken seriously during a time when he genuinely was more harmless than usual.
During the time since she had weighed less on his mind. At the moment he was looking for something to eat. Maybe another nice rabbit, or maybe something larger.

Deneb had lurked around the area where she'd found the kalona for several weeks. At first she'd merely only watched him but had genuinely felt sorry for him when it became apparent that unless something was stupid enough, like her, to go near the predator that he'd starve before he healed. So every few days she'd startled rabbits towards him without making her presence to well known.
Once he'd been healed enough to move around without hurting himself she'd pulled herself further back and made sure to keep out of his way. She didn't want to run into him, both from common sense that he'd probably take a chunk out of her now, but also because in a stupid way she wanted to see him again, and that just wouldn't do.
Today she was spending time in a glade she favored browsing on the berry bushes that grew there. She'd seen the stallion on the far side of the forest and was taking a moment to be out in the open.

Xelloss slunk through the underbrush, looking for something to prey upon. There was a patch of berry bushes nearby, he remembered. If he could find just the right unperceptive deer he could make an easy kill and have food for days. He drew to the edge of the clearing and peered out into the open space. There was something eating the berries as he had thought there would be... it just wasn't what he'd expected.
That mare. He bristled in recognition. It was that incessantly aggravating mare that had fed him when he was injured. His tail flicked irritably behind him and his mind ran through all the things he could do to her now that he was moderately more healthy. He couldn't quite settle on which one he wanted to do for the time being so instead he crept towards her. It really wouldn't be very thoughtful of him if he killed someone that he owed a favor to. That thought nagged at him. He hated owing people anything, dead people included.
He did quite like to surprise people, though.
"Why helloooooo there," he said as he emerged suddenly nearby the mare. "Fancy seeing you about these parts again."
