"Writ." He took Marcus' hand and shook it, "You're lucky, the first time I meet a new kid I give them a good scare before shaking hands."

Writ laughed, then went back to a straight face. He tilted his head at Marcus, "Curious though, where have you been? I've been wandering these streets for a couple of years, and I haven't seen you till today. What rock have you been hiding under?"

Marcus grinned behind his trunk. "You say kid like you mean it. My parents stopped calling me a child at fourteen." He let that sink in a moment. "And you don't enter the game until you have an object. I've been watching for years." Marcus decided to mimic Writ's head movement in a similar way. Not mocking, but just matching. "The guy upstairs suggested now was a good time."

Marcus grinned "I imagine we will be hearing from the game masters about this."

I have him now. He's not going to run like a pup with this information to chew on.

Writ shrugged, "And you're still fourteen if you jumped through the same hoops as the rest of us. Still a kid in my book."

Whatever the case may be, Marcus was technically older than he was. Writ didn't think about that.

"Yeah, if you can find them, Persy's not around. The shop's all locked up." Writ tilted his head to the other side, to see if Marcus would follow along, "Though I guess you know that already- you've been watching for years and all that." Writ waved off the fact.

"Sounds like your god's out of the loop. Game's gotten a lot more crazy lately, and those Blacksuits aren't helping things."

Marcus gave a knowing grin at the age mention. "I make my own hoops, and we can leave it at that."

Marcus absorbed Writ's words, cataloging them for later. Percy... would that be the 'Persephone' Ganesh mentioned? The shop's locks would be of no issue, he was sure. But whether there were warning systems in there was another matter.

"I can do crazy. It's why I decided to join the game now." Marcus shrugged. "I'm an investigator. I can find more than stray dogs. It just takes time."

"Good, you'll live longer." Writ smiled, "Crazy helps."

Meeting new godlings was fun, but only because it was a chance to psyche them out and get them all scared. It wasn't happening with Marcus, but he was starting to like the kid all the same.

"More than strays, huh? Like what?"

Marcus had his interest now, and wasn't ready to let it go. "I can find information as if I were searching. The more secretive the information, the longer it takes. But I'm getting faster."

Marcus's power had grown a lot, for which he was indeed thankful. He used to have to meditate for hours to find a dog, and now, it was only a few minutes.

"I can give a little demonstration" Marcus hoped this would work. He thought it would, at least."Hold up some fingers behind your back. I'll tell you how many."

"I'm not gonna end up with any extra fingers, am I?" Writ vaguely remembered a movie where the main character was playing the same game with god, and ended up with a couple extra digits. He figured that a couple extra fingers wouldn't hurt- just more to cut off if the Blacksuits ever caught him.

So he put eight fingers behind his back, four in each hand.

"Alright, do your stuff."

Marcus wanted to get this right. Closing his eyes, he focused on the man before him, and the hands behind his back Don't screw up now After a moment a hazy image stirred in his mind, growing clearer as the time drew on. The image became sharp, and then oversharp, like he was looking at the man's hands with a magnifying lens. Too far.

Marcus opened his eyes with confidence. "Eight. And you have something under your right index fingernail." It had looked like a bit of fuzz or fur.

Writ put his hands in front of him, four fingers in each. He looked closely at his right hand to see a bit of post-coyote form fuzz underneath it.

"Well would you look at that." Writ smirked, he bit underneath his nail and spat out the piece of fur. This kid was good.

"That was pretty slick." He tilted his head, "What else could you do? Could you, say, get information from some secret government building?" He was hinting at something, and Writ wasn't particularly being subtle about it.

Marcus shrugged, as casually as he could. "It's possible. Theoretically, rather than practically. The easier the information is to retrieve anyway, the faster it goes." Marcus blew cold air out his long nose. Elephants lived in warmer climates, and his face wasn't meant for these cold temperatures. "I have to keep concentrating until I get the information. Eating and sleeping kind of get in the way of that, for harder stuff. But then again, I'm getting faster."

Deciding he needed a little extra show of power, Marcus took out his smallest knife with a false hand. With it seemingly floating, Marcus made like with the man and cleaned one hand's digits. Putting the knife safely away again, he mentioned "I can also look normal to non-players, now. But you'd likely be able to guess that."

Writ backed away at the sight of the knife at first, but after a second glance he decided that it wasn't that much of a threat. It was an interesting little trick.

"Fun." Writ blew some air underneath his fingernails, "Yeah, I wouldn't mind being inconspicuous that right about now. Though it's kinda a neccesity for you."

Marcus had an idea. "There's easier ways to do that for you than resorting to magic." Marcus patted a bit of his gut with his hands. "I've recently come into a whole wardrobe I can no longer wear, and I had to hide with it." Debt was a powerful tool, and with a lever he could move the world. "A hooded sweater and a scarf, and no one could tell you from any other guy on the street."

"I like magic, it's easier and nobody but some of the other godlings know about it. And I know them." Writ shrugged, oblivious to Marcus' subtle offer of clothes.

"Just cause I'm tired of attention doesn't mean I don't like it. It's like candy, it's good, but after a while you kinda get sick of it, you know? " He liked being in the spotlight, but there was only so much he could handle. Writ was used to blipping bright enough on the radar to keep the heat off his parents and friends- But now... He regretted releasing his dossier among the documents.

Marcus gave the slightest grimace. "Suit yourself, then. I suppose I've gotten too used to being the fly on the wall all of the time." It was true, more or less. Even many of Marcus' powers dealt with him being inconspicuous. "Being famous is not on my agenda, as it were. After the game? Maybe." Marcus absent-mindedly scratched his chin with his nose as he thought. "Would you say you've enjoyed being a player? Watching or no watching, I've only been one a few days."

"If I enjoy it? Hm." Like Writ needed to think about that.

"It's like having cheat codes to your favorite video game." He smirked, "There's just something about being chosen by some sort of all powerful god that puts everything in perspective, you know? And I don't just mean the neat powers either. We're fighting for the fate of the world here, it makes everything else around us seem smaller." He looked up to the sky before facing Marcus again, "As for being famous, a little infamy never hurt anybody. Hell, look at Jesus. He's got a whole book about him."
