Although Zeke would not be able to see it Vyn felt dreadfully guilty about her rejection of his offer, despite the fact that even now with the bad feelings she had she would never consider willingly putting herself near the virus creation. Her wings sagged as he started examining Thorn and her rune cast a distinctly dimmer glow of shame underneath the metal examination table. Perhaps one day she would meet the frei to be by accident and her presumptions about its heritage would be proved false... But that would have to be via luck because the memories she had of her infection were a forceful wedge between arranged meetings in the foreseeable future. However, rather than lingering on such feelings she did as Zeke was doing and acted in a polite professional manner. They both had jobs to do – his was to conduct a check-up on Thorn and hers was to be a responsible pet owner.
Checking Thorn’s ears had been something that hadn’t even occurred to Vyn... Just like the cleaning of his face was realised how complex an animal she had taken ownership of. The pup was closer to her and Ethan than the rudimentary fish living in the penthouse and she was his main carer! She hadn’t even realised the relatively high responsibility she had taken upon her shoulders when she had first gotten the dog. However, according to Zeke’s exclamation she was doing a good job, a comment to which she smiled graciously to and nodded as he continued onto the next check-up exercise: nail trimming.
This too was a practice that she hadn’t expected to see done... Why would the pug need his nails trimmed? She was tempted to ask, but thought it best not to question the vet. He was the trained professional here and wouldn’t be acting without a reason. With great interest she mentally recorded how he instructed her to hold Thorn – tucked under an arm so that he couldn’t wiggle or throw her off when she was snipping away at his paws. When he mentioned the vein she leant over the table and nodded in understanding. It was relatively simple but there were obviously things that needed to be understood if she wasn’t to hurt her pet.
When the nail trimming appeared done and complete she pushed off the table lightly with her hands and floated with a question forming in her mouth. One of the additional reasons that had motivated her to ring Thorn to the vet was to seek professional advise about getting some training done. He had never really been taught commands like sit, heel and so on and her little incident with Rivener had highlighted the need to gain some rudimentary control system over him... He wasn’t a bad boy – but everyone needed to know when to listen and what to do when told.
“Can you suggest...” She glanced apologetically at her pet, “dog training classes?” She floated closer again, holding out a hand which Thorn then moved closer to and sniffed. Proceeding to rub his head she continued. “He’s not naughty but he doesn’t know any commands..”

Zeke's soreness when she turned down his offer melted as Vyn smiled at his approval of her care of Thorn. He could understand why she had declined and just seeing that small action made him happy his Essence hadn't done lasting physical damage to her. He hoped the Raevans he met in the future that were also taken by the virus weren't as well but even more so hoped they would be willing to give this new Raevan a chance. It would need all it could get. The vet tipped the clippings from his palm into the wastebasket and made sure none lingered on the table, listening to the rose Frei's question. A smile once again lit up his face and he nodded, already thinking about where to suggest.
"Well I think most major pet stores offer classes from time to time, so there's always that, but you'd have to check with the store to see when they'd be offered." He moved to the forms Ethan passed back and tucked them into the file he had, pulling the folder to himself and filling out where it was due. He leaned back against the counter and idly sucked on his lip ring, thinking hard. "There's also a few private sort of classes run by organizations like the Gaian Kennel Club, which you'd have to call up or check their website for dates, times, and places. I think...I may have a flier from them in my office. I can take you and your father there and give that to you. I have dogs of my own but they're both well trained enough, so better it go to you." Zeke finished with the forms and got out a spray bottle and a few paper towels before gesturing to the Frei to pick her pug up. Once she did, he sprayed down the table with the solution and wiped it clean.
"Thorn's perfectly healthy, other than his weight of course, so while I give you that flyer, we can schedule him to come back in for vaccinations." The bottle went back into its cabinet and the towels were tossed out before Zeke made his way past the pet-owner pair and the Frei's guardian to the door. "If you'll just follow me please," Was all he said before Zeke stepped from the room and started off back down the hall. He looked over his shoulder once to make sure the family was following him as he made his way, humming to himself as he let himself into his office.
The room was large enough to comfortably fit the three humanoids, but small enough to remain private and even a little cozy despite the pale walls and linoleum floor thanks to the veterinarian's choice to decorate. Zeke moved his lunch bag and placed the file down in its place, not pausing to cast a wistful look to the many framed photos lining the edges of his desk that touched the walls. He rifled through his desk's drawers, looking for that bright colored flier that was passed out with all the staff mail.
"It should be," He said, flipping through paper stacks before turning and striding to his little mail basket that was laden with today's drop. "Right around...Ah! Here." A hot blue paper was pulled from the bottom of the pile in the plastic basket and he held it out to Vyn. It bore the Gaian Kennel Club logo as well as information on offered obedience classes and the number people interested should call in order to R.S.V.P.. Zeke moved from that area of his office and plopped himself down in his chair as she looked at that, waking his computer out of its sleep mode and accessing the clinic's database.
"Now that you've got that, I think getting him set up for shots would be good. If you'd like me to do that, I can set you up here, but if you don't mind someone else doing it, you can talk to one of the secretaries up front instead." The pierced man looked over his shoulder at the two, waiting for their choice. No matter what they chose, Thorn would be in good hands and he'd be done in very little time at all. "Hopefully whatever day you have your appointment on won't nearly be as crowded though."

It was very relieving that Zeke did not seem to hold her decision to decline her offer against her and all traces of disappointment or reproach fell from his personage. He continued to be just as helpful as before as he explained that most pet stores ran classes. Vyn had never seen advertisements in the place that she got Thorn’s food from, but then again she had never explicitly looked and with this new knowledge in mind she would most certainly have a look around next time she was in the shop. She needed to get new food for him anyway as a result of this check-up. She would ask then. She remained intent on listening to the vet’s response as he asked her to pick up Thorn and as she scooped him up into her arms so that Zeke could disinfect the table. Her interest was sustained as he went on to mention a specific club that held reliable training courses – he had a leaflet in his office and Vyn nodded as he suggested that he could give it to her alongside sorting out Thorn’s vaccinations.
Content that Zeke had done an apparently thorough and now completed check over of Thorn Vyn bobbed after him, catching the door of the examination room and holding it so that Ethan could follow both Zeke and her into the corridor with ease. With him beside her she stole after Zeke, snuggling Thorn’s warm black body to her chest. The pug seemed pleased to be taken back to his mistress’ warm embrace after the cold metal examination table and his tongue lolled out in contentment.
When they were all fitted into Zeke’s office and he was rifling through his belongings in search of the apparently elusive leaflet Vyn took the time to examine the room. It was a comfortable room, professional without much excitement – though that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing; it made the colourful man look more professional especially complete with the certificates of qualification on the left of the entrance. From those papyrus coloured slips her eyes made their way across to his desk. It was fairly ordered and decorated with a collection of pleasantly framed photographs: Zeke with another man, arms slung casually around each other, Alex and Zeke, grinning and looking directly into the camera, two dogs, the pair that he had mentioned earlier? With an interested bob of the head she pointed to them. “What are you dogs name’s?” She inquired, taking the leaflet he offered with a gracious incline of the head.
Ethan decided to take over in regards to the booking of appointments. He held the diary of when they were free and he would prefer if he could work it into his schedule so that he could accompany her. Ethan no longer disapproved of the vet; his prejudices against the piercings, tattoos and hair dye had been banished due to his smooth and professional care of Thorn... But with the virus raevan in the process of being developed, an escort to prevent Vyn from being landed in an awkward or even dangerous situation would probably be best. “Booking with you now would be preferable,” he intoned, removing a pocket-sized business diary and opening it to examine the dates. “What time would you say is best?”

"My dogs?" He said in a tone that made it known he was more into accessing his personal calendar and index in the clinic's network than he was into the photos. When Vyn questioned him however, Zeke pulled his eyes away and looked to the right, smiling fondly at his small assortment of memories on film. The vet nabbed a photo of each dog (though those were hard to find in the collection, given how when there was one, the other was close behind) and placed them forward for the rose Frei to see.
"This one here is Altair," He tapped the photo of a white fluff ball of a Samoyed, the picture showing the dog smiling in her own way at the camera and looking rather curious as to what the man behind the machine was doing with it. The one next to it he tapped as well, this one showing a large Great Pyrenees lounging on a nice couch. "And this is her "brother" Faustus. I also have a kitten named Dust Bunny..." He trailed off to reach behind those and pull out a photo of a small brown and striped kitten laying low on the floor with a crinkly cat toy before her. "She's a Maine Coon cat."
Vyn could take the photos placed before her or the ones still in the grouping in hand to examine them at her leisure, Zeke didn't mind as long as they weren't dropped or mistreated. If he didn't want others to see him with his loved one or his sister and pets, he wouldn't have placed them in such a place. As Ethan spoke up, he turned once more to his computer but then fully to the older man.
"I'm thinking that, since it's February, maybe March or April for that. We'd likely have batches of vaccine in greater stock then given the season and that would give Thorn a couple months to get used to the new food and maybe drop some weight." He clicked on his schedule calendar and so far he was free for those months so far. Ethan and Vyn taking that offer would ensure them getting the date and time they so desired and would give him plenty of time to put in a request for what vaccines Thorn would need. "So any weekday is good for me, but I don't work weekends, so I wouldn't advise Saturday or Sunday."

Given that Zeke seemed pleased to give her a closer look at his pets Vyn felt it was only right to gain a closer more interested look at them. Both were white and delightfully fluffy looking. Using one hand, tucking Thorn firmly under her other arm, to scratch delicately at the photo frame with a bemused expression she pondered their appearance. Although both had the fluffy bodies and cute expressions that were often found in stuffed toys, both of them were much larger than Thorn and she found that slightly peculiar. Cute animals in her mind tended to be small and handle-able. Rabbits, hamsters, Thorn... Nevertheless she expressed her approval towards their adorable looks with a mild ‘aww’. “How old are they?” She inquired, retracting her hand again and cradling her pug in a more comfortable position.
Nodding understandingly Ethan flicked through the pages of his diary to the appropriate section. He adjusted his glasses slightly as his grey eyes swept over the appointments that he already had booked up. “How does the first Wednesday of April sound to you?” March was fairly busy – he had several vital conference meetings during that span and he would no doubt be concentrating on making sure they all ran smoothly. Once they were done he could most definitely spare a day to dedicate to the vet.
Drifting more into the background Vyn listened to her father’s suggestion for a subsequent check-up... Those months seemed quite a distance away but then again, time flew past so quickly that it would seem like only moments later that she’d be in this office again. However, the passing of time reminded her of the ticking time bomb that Zeke had effectively created. Would the virus raevan be born by then? She shivered a little bit. As much as she enjoyed Zeke’s company and wished him all the best in bringing up the abomination she desired to avoid its contact at all costs. With slightly nervous eyes she shifted her stance, backing unconsciously towards the exit...

"Faust is about four now I think and Tair will be two in...March or May." He replied to her question with pride, though he faltered on the birthdays. Both were spring babies, but offhandedly he couldn't recall which dog was which month. Regardless, the two fluffy white goofballs - as well as Dust Bunny - were his "kids" and even though they currently lived with Brad out in Aekea, he was still quite the proud parent of the two. "Dust Bunny's just shy of a year as well." He added, hearing that 'aww' from Vyn. Zeke then turned back to Ethan once more, watching with polite silence as the older gentleman flipped through his personal calendar. Looking at the small book, one of those would be handy to have once the virus Raevan was born. Good to schedule those required appointments at the Lab as well as those still-possible meet and greets among other things. Zeke realized he should concern himself with getting a car too.
"First Wednesday of April..." He shifted to look at his screen, the date being the seventh of the month. "The seventh sounds good with me. Any particular time? I usually have lunch around this time and leave at about seven-ish, though they both can vary depending on appointments." His words there were directed at the fact he was about to touch into lunch before he was asked to take care of the Raevan's pug. Zeke opened the date with a fast double click and typed down Thorn's name as well as those belonging to his owners before tabbing down to the time chosen by Ethan. Once this was done and dealt with, the added vaccination date would be forwarded off to the front and run by the receptionists who did all that filing stuff and then the pair and their pet would be free to leave, with the billing being taken care of out front. While that was being done, the vet hadn't seen Vyn's shifting or backwards movement, even in the somewhat reflective glare of the monitor. He didn't know what she was thinking as well, but as he looked at the space of time between now and then, he shared the same thoughts as her (though on a less frightened scale). Would his Raevan be born by then? He didn't know how long a Raevan took to develop - hadn't looked at files past the virus ones yet - but something man-made like they were as well as the things that made them probably meant there was no stable development time. This would be something to pose to Alex come the weekend, since he'd need time to prepare both himself and his home for the new arrival. What a task he had taken on!
"Once we're done getting Thorn penciled in for shots, I think you'll be free to head up to the front and talk to the receptionists about billing!" Sounds from the lobby seemed to have gone down in volume, so those who had been coming off lunches were working efficiently. Zeke's stomach gave a growl. He'd need to feed himself too, after this.

It was a little awkward for Vyn as Zeke airily dispensed the ages of his dogs; Faustus was the same age as her... That white fluffy dog in the picture had been walking the Earth the same (if not more) amount of time as she had been alive. It made her feel incredibly young – sometimes she forgot how age was perceived for ‘normal’ people. It was easy to let it slip in her mind that Zeke was probably at least five times her age and Ethan... Well, that expanse of time felt unreal for the rose and at the same time made her feel incredibly unprepared and immature compared to them. However, with an attempt at a smile she shrugged off the notion and nodded gratuitously to the vet, allowing him to get on with his business.
Tapping the pen slightly on the edge of the diary Ethan mused over what time would be best to have Thorn’s check-up. “Would two o'clock be ok? After lunch...” That way he and Vyn could go into town beforehand, perhaps do some shopping and have a bite to eat. For the most part so long as Thorn was carried around the shops wouldn’t complain and if the weather was pleasant enough they could have a meal at an establishment with outdoor seating, He knew of a little alfresco cafe... They could go there... Already planning the day he put the nib of the pen to the page, looking expectantly at Zeke.
All in all, the businessman was quietly pleased with how the appointment had been conducted. Despite the minor hiccup with the mention of the virus Zeke had far exceeded his expectations and had truly proved that he shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Piercings, tattoos and bi-coloured hair certainly did not have to equal the type of character that first sprung to mind. On the note of payment Ethan nodded. “Out of interest, which payment type is preferred; cash, credit or cheque?”

"Two o'clock sounds perfect. We shouldn't be too busy around that time I don't think..." He trailed off to type the time into the appropriate table, filling the blank boxes with a few quick taps. The time was good and his lunch would probably be scheduled around noon depending. He shouldn't assume too much yet, the date was still two months away and things could change as easily as it was to pick up a phone and dial in. "Vaccinations for Thorn on April seventh at two o'clock p.m.." He read that off to make sure that was what Ethan wanted, his cursor hovering over the 'Submit' button. His hand released at the question though, pushing himself around in his chair once more.
"We commonly have people paying by credit, debit, or cheque," Money up front was unheard of here and if Ethan chose that route Zeke could already imagine the shocked faces of the secretaries. "But whichever method you're comfortable with should be fine." He smiled lightly, hand retaking the mouse and submitting the appointment. If need be it could be changed, though Zeke would be lying if he said he wasn't already hoping for that day to come again, to have another chat with the two of them. "And there, you're all set." Zeke got up then, extending his hand to Ethan.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, sir, and your daughter. And Thorn of course." Couldn't leave him out, he was the reason they were here after all! After another firm handshake he turned to the Frei and her dog, reaching out to scratch the black pug behind the ears another time. "He's a very good dog, you've raised him well." His smile brightened for Vyn, hoping to bring about the same action in her. "Just remember about his weight and the food. When he comes back in April I'll weigh him again and any change will be noted!" His hand left the dog, making sure not to bring up the virus situation again for now. Should the Raevan be born by then, he'd cross that bridge when they came to it. Until then though, he'd like to see them leave with positives rather than negatives.
"Thank you for coming, both of you. I'd say Thorn's all set and you're both free to go! Have a good rest of the day and a safe commute home, okay?"

With an informed nod Ethan noted the directions to the exit given and the answer to his query on payment types. “Yes, it has been good meeting you too.” He extended his gratitude and firmly shook the other man’s hand. It was a good strong hold, not squeezing too tight but with enough firmness to show that the youthful vet was confident in what he was doing. Ethan liked that and in addition to the rectified impression that he had gained over the course of the meeting he beamed. He had to give it to Alex, she had hit the nail right on the head with this recommendation – he did indeed do a very good job!
Vyn, hovering by the doorway, also responded to his well wishing. However, she was more buoyed up with pleasure and pride. The animal expert seemed to think that she was bringing up Thorn very well, and considering that she was working primarily off of instinct with little or no advice that pleased her. “Thank you.” She called as Ethan moved passed her, leading them outside to the corridor and the exit. “We will see you sometime next month.”
Thorn took this opportunity to yap fondly, almost on cue, making it seem like all three of the family wanted to give thanks to the bright animal doctor. With a smile painted back on her face by the dog’s interjection Vyn exited the room. Checkup complete.
