Terra of the Lilies So, we're told our new show theme every year around the same time, when we have to get our classes for the next year signed off for stuff.
We were talking about it, and it sounds amazing! It's designed for a dome, because that's where grand nationals is going to be! (Our first time...you have no idea how excited we all are. =D) It's sort of Night at the Museum-esqe, except a lot cooler. xd It starts off with a piano solo (playing Bach's Cello Suite), and the color guard is like statues. The band enters, and we're all like, "Woah! Statues!" xd It's sort of like us exploring a museum. Then, the chimes play the same note nine times, I believe, signifying that it's nine o'clock (the whole show has that theme of time in it, because it starts and ends the same way- I think it goes through twelve hours), and then the statues come to life! They start to move, and their statue costume is taken off, and they become inanimate objects...except, you know, they're moving. xd So this whole struggle kind of happens between the band and the color guard, and I think at another bell toll there's a guard member and a band member inbetween the two groups, with their hands pressed together! Awwww. :] We start playing purdy music, they start dancing, all cool stuff.
That's about all we had time to talk about (and I'm probably not allowed to be saying this stuff? xd In case people want to steal it...so DON'T D< ), but it sounds like our show's going to be amazing! I'm so excited. We don't have a title for it yet, though...of course. I guess we'll learn more about it eventually... That sounds EPIC. Ours sucks. It's 'Southern Livin' We start out playing 'All Night all Day' with a french horn solo, then it goes to rocky top, camp townladies, then to the DUKE fight song(We're from NC soooo) and we spell out duke, and then the UNC fight song, while spelling out UNC, ((while thts going on the color gaurd is playing foot ball with unc or duke hats on. our Band director is UNC fan so they won. D:<)) and then we make a race track around the drum line and play the nascar theme, then run around them in a race track shape while the color gaurd have steering wheels and they have a colision so they are doing cart wheels and back flips and stuff XDD then we get in a giant arrow and do the wave((?!)) at the girl playing guitar to 'Sweet Home Alabama' then we march some more and end it with 'Ramblin Man.' It was suckish. D:

My director said he'd never do popular music shows again after the fiasco of the Beatles...
Two years later, we're doing Steely Dan. Way to stick to it, H. rolleyes
The show is AWESOME though. It looks really hard (for my section, anyway) but it's actually a lot easier than last year's...I can't wait! I'm still the only one who'll practice from my pit but I don't care yet. 8D

Last year pur band had played "The Classics" Ludwig and Wolfgang, Knuckle Concerto, Low Rider, Come Sail Away." The theme for this year is very, very unknown. I think it was just randomly made into a fast moving show. But so far it sounds good. xd

We weren't supposed to know until our awards concert (which is at the end of May) when our director announces it, but the guard instructor blabbed to the junior high and high school guards (mainly to get them pumped for next year), who blabbed to everyone else, naturally. Our director's upset about it.
So, I guess we're doing a Key Poulan arrangement/medley of Moulin Rouge. Hopefully next year will be an improvement over the past two years. :

surge5 Shadster3751 We are usually told nothing but the theme. This year is going to be awesome though its Cirque Du Soleil! biggrin which cirque du soleil show? i did quidam last year that has atmadja, ninkou latora, quidam, and incantation. That was a really cool show. We made it a magic show. this year we're doing carmen. i'm afraid to hear how the band will handle the 16th notes and trills in the theme XD that's going to be fun. If i make drum major, i'm definatly going to learn the flute part on the score so i can play it in my spare time. i have wanted to play that song forever!! i already played part of it by ear but then the trills and crap get confusing so i gave up XD Its Quidam and I believe we are playing some of the same songs. My director already has six 'characters' that are suppose to perform during the show as well as our color guard, and band.

It's a pretty exciting song, but the second song sounded kinda boring, but it's a Circus! It's just as cool as this past years show. (We play Pyramids of Egypt). Check my band out, the show underlined above is in You tube. GO SOUTHSIDE HIGHS SCHOOL CARDINAL BAND!!!! rofl rofl rofl rofl scream

Today, my director said he was (seriously) considering wearing tuxedos on the marching field. For our field show. Our marching field show.
D:
I don't care if we're doing Moulin Rouge; that's just a ridiculous idea. neutral

We have two Ideas. Urban Pulse and Knights. Urban Pulse is self explanatory, but is really funny sense we are a 50 person marching band in the middle of a corn field. No joke, where we practice, is surrounded by Corn. Lovely, beautiful corn. Knights is basically like an old Dungeons and Dragons theme, which would be mega awesome sense I'm a DnD Geek, but it is too geeky. I like to keep my DnD and Band seperate, atleast until after performing.

Our band has narrowed down our possible shows for 2010 from 78 to fifteen, and now we all get to vote for the seven shows we will actually perform. (Heheh, college band.) It's so hard to choose just seven...but I'm definitely voting for the Lady Gaga show, it would be so much fun! 290Pika Today, my director said he was (seriously) considering wearing tuxedos on the marching field. For our field show. Our marching field show. D: I don't care if we're doing Moulin Rouge; that's just a ridiculous idea. neutral Wtf, that would be awesome. xD I'd pay to see that.

And the fourth and final movement will be about the end of the Solar cycle A.K.A sun go boom!!. The show is called SOLARIS .

You guys are all so lucky. I'm in high school, and we have no marching band... just a regular old, sit down and play a cool song, band.
Either way, the songs we're playing are Root Beer rag, The Phantom of the Opera medley and a Grease medley. Kind of lame, but hey. At least we're playing something. I'm still jealous of you people!!
