“Do you want to die?” Ophelia snapped, though she did so while still managing to seem more worried than angry. She could not blame the girl for asking question, but Ophelia simply could not take the time to answer them just now. Not unless she wanted to go back to Astraea and explain how the Negaverse's pinkest Lieutenant had killed their newest senshi. Anyone who had ever met Astraea knew that this was not something you wanted to do. “I will be happy to explain everything once you're safe, but right now, only you can save Vivian. Serandite might be going after her as we speak, and you have to stop her.”

Though Ophelia could imagine at least five reasons why she could understand if Jada did not want to save the horribly annoying girl.

“Lisa is dead, and for that I am deeply sorry, but you don't have time to mourn her. You are a Sailor Senshi, a guardian of the Moon Kingdom and subject of Princess Serenity.” None of this would make sense to Jada, of course, but when Ophelia spoke the name of their Princess, it would resonate deep within the her. She would feel a spark of joy, sorrow, and a calling to the duty of being a Senshi. It was the same thing Foramen had felt. The same thing every senshi felt when it came to their long lost Princess. There was always something.

“I promise that I will explain everything, Scylla,” Ophelia would likely never again address the girl by her human name, “But for right now, I need you to trust me, and I need you to fight.”

Did Jada want to die? Hell no!

She could sort out this sickening nightmare after she had somehow survived it. "I'll hold you to that promise, cat." The words likely, nay certainly, came out snappish; frankly, however, Jada had no clue if it did or not. If her hair weren't already curled, the stress would be curling it for her. "How am I supposed to stop one of these 'Negaverse' people, this 'Serandite'? I don't know if the magic pen told you or not, but I'm no warrior." Or did kung fu lessons come with the miniskirt and makeover experience? She'd never had a self-defense lesson in her life.

She tried to ignore the feeling of longing that poured over her when the cat spoke of a Serenity that she had never met. Her eyes tightened lightly before she glanced back in the direction they had come from. "Tell me what you need me to do, how to do it if you know, and I'll try." No promise in the words, for Jada Chamberlyn was no hero. But Sailor Scylla was feeling the tug of duty, and for that reason, she would do what was needed. "I have Mace in my purse, if that will help?"

Serandite had indeed gone after Vivian. After all, the girl tumbling through the road ahead so clumsily and panicked was an easy target. Unlike the other civilian who had cleverly taken cover under the thick leaves of a tree somewhere.

Serandite was dying of curiosity to find out why Ophelia had intervened-- was there something special about this small mob of noisy brats who relied all on "daddy's money?" A frown crossed her face-- she had been one of those girls. And thank god, she had somehow gotten out of it. yet-- something nagged. Why was Ophelia here?

A scream resonated through the empty street as Serandite landed in front of Vivian, her posture distinctly threatening. She needed to get this over with and chase after that other civilian-- after all, she might go to the police with Serandite's negaverse identity and Serandite didn't want police on her trail anymore than any other criminal did. Her large bunny lifted the girl up, paws restraining her trembling body, lifeless "X" eyes staring down at the pitiful target before her.

“It would, but I don't want you that close to her.” Ophelia made a note to

In fact, Ophelia would prefer it if Scylla turned tail and ran right that instant. Keeping her alive was far more important to Ophelia than the life of one teenage girl. However unfortunate Vivian's death might be, Scylla's would have been far more detrimental. Unfortunately, Ophelia could not so easily follow her mind over her heart, and the latter screamed loudly for them to turn back and rescue Vivian.

And so, she lead they way, taking off in the direction of Vivian's scream.

Ophelia spoke as they ran: “When you get near her, you will need to say “Scylla's Sorrow!” It sounds ridiculous right now, but you will know what to do when the time comes. It is part of who you are.” Again, those Magical Cat Powers told her what Scylla's attack was, and she knew that it would be enough to hold Serandite long enough to get away with Vivian's life intact. “What you see may frighten you, Scylla, but I will explain it in due time. For now, just follow my directions and try not to freeze up.”

As they neared the place where Serandite had captured Vivian, the scene would indeed be frightening for one unfamiliar with the wild world of Senshi vs Negaverse. Ophelia wasted no time, throwing her tiny body at the stuffed rabbit. With the kind of tenacity only a cat could have, she began clawing her way determinedly up the thing.

“Now, Scylla!” she shouted, raking her claws over the fabric of the stuffed animal. She needed only to distract it long enough to make it drop the girl.

The cat had a point. Did she want to get close enough to the pink-haired "Serandite" to spray her with Mace? Not really.

Jada was a coward. Scylla, however, was still influenced by the sense of duty she felt; the newfound desire and responsibility to save others. When the cat turned and ran towards the sound of the scream, Scylla followed. Hundreds of dollars in merchandise was left on the ground, unguarded and unprotected from the hobos (who would have found and picked it apart by the time she got back to it, she was certain) while she ran towards certain death in high heels and a miniskirt.

If this was a nightmare, it was certainly touching on all the points that Jada Chamberlyn would have in one. "Scylla's S-" she stopped before she repeated it fully, remembering what had happened when she said the other phrasde the cat had told her. "Noted. I'll do my best."

Was that a rabbit?

That was a rabbit, yes.

A ******** huge stuffed rabbit.

But the magi-cat was right, when she saw what was happening, it was not the confused Jada Chamberlyn who shouted out the phrase Ophelia had taught her, it was the instinct of Sailor Scylla. "Scylla's Sorrow!" she hissed, and held out her hand towards Serandite and the rabbit. The ground underneath the combatants (kitty, Negaverser, and prey) exploded with tentacles, four of them, reaching, writhing, to try and climb up the rabbit- and Serandite's- legs.

Serandite laughed at Ophelia aimed for the puppeteered rabbit, although her amusement didnt last for long. She didn't like Ophelia scratching up her weapon, the fabric and stuffing spilling out under Ophelia's sharped claws. She did drop the girl on the cold pavement, the girl's head taking a nasty fall, trying to peel off the clawing cat..

You know what? A rabbit was freaky but tentacles was just plain slimy and disgusting. Serandite screamed aggravatingly, her bunny immediately falling down to it's smaller size, now that she was too distracted to hold it.

That was when she decided, this senshi was one that she did not get affiliated with. At all. Serandite could really develop a trauma from these damned tentacles-- ONE WAS AROUND HER LEG. She wanted to cry at the touch of slimy tentacle. Eeeeeegghhhh. She leaped out of the radius, away from all three of them, ducking behind a tree.

"Are you the senshi of octopuses or something--?! Gosh, that's disgusting--!" She said, hiding behind a tree, not wishing to get near those tentacles. This was the first time she had such a reaction to a senshi but who could blame her? None of the senshi she had met before had abilities remotely related to this.

As the bunny shrunk, Ophelia leapt from its head, running across the cold ground towards Vivian's fallen form. She hopped up on the girls back, thankful to see the teenagers breath coming out in small white puffs. She was alive – thank the moon, she was alive – but Lisa would likely never wake again. Her fate was better than most of the victims of the Negaverse, at least. Her body would not rot in an alley, only to be found by chance or perhaps never found at all. She would be taken to the hospital, diagnosed as another unfortunate victim. They would put her on life support when her body stopped willing itself on. Eventually, even her parents would realize that she would never wake, and they too would give up hope.

Lisa would number one amongst hundreds of people who had died the same way. A flatlined heart monitor and a withdrawn respiration tube.

“Run back to the Negaverse, Lieutenant,” Ophelia practically spat the title, standing protectively over Vivian's body. Scylla, she was now confident, could protect herself should Serandite dare another attack. With both an offensive senshi and a Guardian to contend with, it would not have been the wisest of choices.

Scylla managed not to stare at the tentacles. In her ears... were they wailing? Serandite was right about one thing, the octopus-like appendages were slimy and gross. Seriously, they were thicker than her arms, with suckers the size of her fist. Worst of all, they did not want to let Serandite escape so easily. The senshi couldn't figure out how to make them disappear. Instead, they slowly seemed to be extending, desperately reaching for the enemy. And in her ears she could swear she heard the sound of howling, crying, shrieking. Why so sad? Why so angry?

What tore at Scylla's heart?

They wouldn't be content, not yet. The tentacles reached again, straining, still creeping for the pink-haired girl. "Ophelia," Jada hissed from the corner of her mouth, "How do I turn them off?!" really, they were getting almost creepy. How did other... magical (people?) turn off their attacks? She could feel the drain on her, but she didn't know how to control her own abilities. And that would be- could be- was!- dangerous to her.

She didn't remove her gaze from the tree where Serandite was except for a moment. A moment may be all the Negaverser needed to make an attempt to attack them again, but the cat was a warning. And somehow Jada was paranoid enough to want to watch her back. Their backs. She looked at Vivi, catching a glimpse of what looked like blood starting to pool under her head. She was breathing, but she was hurt. This situation needed to end soon, one way or another.

Lieutenant. Serandite no longer held fond feelings (at the moment) for the once trusted cat, vowing that she would someday be at a high enough level to face Ophelia and Kunzite. But even Serandite knew that the odds were against her, her pride taking a large blow at the thought of retreating. The only move she could do.

AND THEY WERE CREEPING TOWARDS HER. She wanted to cry at the sight of slinking tentacles, shivers of disgust running through her body. Dont look at them too closely-- Dont look-- dont look-- The huge suckers, Serandite couldnt take her eyes off of.

"Hey you! What are you doing out past curfew?!" A flashlight shone towards the scene, several armed policemen climbing out of their cars, tipping their hats as they ran forward.

Uh oh. Serandite hissed a warning towards both the senshi and the cat, flicking her hair condescendingly over her shoulder.

"I wont lose next time. Enjoy your emotionless and lifeless friend. As we know, she wont wake up. She'll lie there while everyone around her loses hope.. and then, boom, precious death. Right, Ophelia?" Serandite said sweetly, the glowing starseed shining in her open palm before a small hand closed and tucked it into her pocket. Serandite wasn't sure how much of the words she meant-- she just knew that they were spiting the guardian cat. But inside, she could feel the corruption encasing her soul in more layers-- almost to the point where death no longer mattered. And that scared Serandite.

With that parting note, her dark shadow sunk into the darkness of the night.

“You think them off,” Ophelia half-whispered, half-hissed in return. “Just will them away, and they will go away.” The hissing wasn't intentional, it was just something talking cats did when they whispered. Her pale blue eyes never left Serandite's. The girl had once been a glimmer of hope, a sign that perhaps there was a place between good and evil from which she could save Charonite's enslaved children.

No more.

“If I see you again, Serandite,” the feline said to the retreating Lieutenant, voice thick with loathing, “I will make sure it is the last time.”

By the time everything was said and done, there was a great amount of explaining to be done. With both Vivian and Lisa down on the ground, theyeasily passed as just another set of helpless victims. Even in her senshi form, the drained look in Sailor Scylla's eyes was enough to pass her off as a flamboyantly dressed teenager on her way home. Victims of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Just another name for Astraea's board.

In the end, Ophelia stood with Scylla as the cop car dropped them off in front of her house. Vivian and Lisa both had been carried off by ambulance; the latter would never awake. It was with sad, tired eyes that Ophelia stared up at the newest senshi, her small mouth folded into a frown.

“I am sorry, Scylla,” she said, and the tone of her voice was enough to tell that she meant it, “But what you do as a senshi will help protect people like your friend. I will explain everything to you, but not tonight. We both need rest."

Judging by the way Ophelia's small body sagged against the concrete, truer words had never been spoken.

Think them off. Think happy thoughts. As Serandite retreated, so did the tentacles; they dissipated a second before the police officers reached the area.

"Who are you?" "What are you doing here?" "What happened here?"

There was a whirlwind of questions, some of which she couldn't answer. They'd described Lisa as having had a fatal heart attack; the excuse for Vivi was that she had been victim of a hit and run. Scylla had heard the crash and come. Her name? Her name... advice from Ophelia had her giving some random name, that somehow checked out.

If anyone thought anything of the traumatized girl crying against her cat...

At the end of the night, as she was dropped off at a place she barely recognized as being a home. Not hers. She boarded at Crystal. "As long as you explain something to me soon." she murmured. She was too tired to do anything other than move silently through the streets to her school.

No one bothered her.
