"Elke?" Another shadow passed over his face: he'd liked Elke -- well, who hadn't liked Elke. Who couldn't like Elke. But then he said: "They can't go alone. You can't let them go alone."
It wasn't as though Hero hadn't been saying that over and over and over, now with more desperation, now with more dead-eyed you are under official orders not to go alone. She always insisted on team-ups. She insisted on safety. There were just -- well, Jude had never listened, had he. Lone wolf syndrome.
"You need to meet up with non-Zodiacs. We need to meet up with the Moon Court. Here's a little history lesson -- bear with me." His hand closed over hers, over the daisy. "When the Zodiacs began, and this was long before the Silver Millennium -- back when we were at war -- we were just a temple people could travel to, we were a pilgrimage. Out in the middle of nowhere. You know this, Sera. And then it was decided that the Zodiac warriors should be formed, that we should become soldiers and make holy war."
His fingers were light on hers. "But here's what the scholars also said, in one book I read: it wasn't an agreement. The Queen at the time said: I will stop being a holy object of time. I will not be a gatekeeper. I will not be worshipped. I will be a soldier."
The sun was very warm after the Destiny City snow.
Eon said, "Ser, I wanted to keep you safe and worshipped as long as possible. I wasn't a very good prince cavalier to you. One hundred per cent more saving up for a Roomba. Two hundred per cent more aloe vera tissues. Okay, done talking."

"I made her promise me that she wouldn't go out alone anymore." She said, but still worried. Still worried about the others. From Aries, yes, even Aries, all the way to Pisces, dear little Pisces that they hadn't found before. She had to save Pisces and Zue the last time, she remembered. And it wasn't as if Pisces had been a senshi before and knew how to use her powers...
"I've met Astraea." Chronos informed him, but did not inform him that Astraea had been the one to make her remember him. It hurt herself enough that she had forgotten him, and he didn't need to know that, even if he and the Opal Crystal (and the Epoch?) had been the ones to make her forget. "She's organizing a senshi meeting." She supposed that she would have to go out to meet more though, which had always been her aim until Aries put her foot down and said, 'No more patrolling. Ever.'
"You did a lot for me." She said, squeezing the hand she held gently. You still have. Just seeing him here gave her strength, gave her happiness, gave her determination. Was it time for her to wake up, for him to leave? His last words made her look up to him and step forward to give him another wordless hug. She didn't want to ask 'You'll be here with me, won't you?' because she dreaded the answer, and she wanted to keep the belief that he would always be watching over her.

"Ser. Sera, listen to me."
His hands were on her shoulders now. "What I'm trying to say is: I never made that great a cavalier. And now I need you to be your own cavalier. You need to get out and fight. I swore to God once that I'd never tell you that -- it wasn't your job -- but I can't be here any more."
You'll be here with me, won't you?
They both eventually sat back down on the warm earth, the grasses, the flowers. "You'll be fighting. You have to learn how to not be a princess. Be Sailor Chronos, not just Princess Chronos." How could she be one and not the other? Or was she being one and not the other already? "Even Princess Serenity had to. That's what made me all right with it. I can't. Lock you up forever."
He'd taken her hand in his own, and she was threading her fingers through his. And now his other arm was around her shoulders, and their heads were bent close, looking down at the flowers, forehead to forehead. "I'm not going anywhere," he admitted. "Apparently the line for the Space Cauldron is like the DMV. Believe me, I'm looking forward to getting. Dispersed. Renewed? Scattered? But there's a wait involved."
Wait. She didn't remember a wait.
"Hey, I won't keep you much longer. I know this is a school night." His smile was a bit thin now. "You need your sleep. But what do you think, about fighting?"

At first, the only thing that registered was the words, I can't be here any more. She stared at him through tear-brimmed eyes; she had always wanted to cling on to the silly little hope that he would somehow make his way back to her. Every day, she thought of him, from his brown hair and those blue eyes to that smile, all the way down to his toes, because she didn't want to forget him ever again. It was as if the memory of his image was the only thing she had left of him and she didn't want it to fade away anymore because forgetting him would hurt.
He wanted her to be her own cavalier. To take over his role.
To be Sailor Chronos, and to be Princess Chronos.
"I'll do what you ask of me." She choked out, trying her hardest not to cry, but it was hard because she didn't want to say goodbye to him anymore. She hadn't even had the chance to do that the last time, but saying goodbye was like letting him go. Like detaching him from her heart. I'll do whatever you ask of me until you come back. I'll try my very very best. "Will you... can Helios let me see you again?"

"I'm not actually meant to, I think I'm going to wear out my welcome," he said, but immediately relented -- "If you need me, go to Helios. Ser -- " He was wiping her tears away now with his sleeve as they trickled down her cheeks, rolling into the corners of her mouth. "Ser, remember this. You are not going to lose. All right? You are going to win. I always knew that. When I met you." The tears still came. "I knew we were going to win because I met you. Remember: I'm always with you."
He was holding her now. "Remember," he said, "just -- remember that a guy who kept every single grocery slip and wrote down his petrol consumption his home diary is rooting for you. Remember to eat your vegetables." She didn't even laugh through her tears. Remember how good and sweet and strong you are." His fingers were at her spine. "Like sucrose -- hey, have Elke make you a diner bunny when you're sad, all right -- God, I sound like an idiot."
And he kissed the top of her head.

Go to Helios. Granted, she didn't know how she could find Helios and where Helios was, exactly, it was something she was determined to accomplish, and filed away in her mind dutifully. Helios was her only link to seeing Ally, and she almost felt hopeful again, to have someone to cling on. That and he just assured her that he was always with her, and she calmed down considerably, although the flow of tears still somehow managed to go on.
Perhaps it was that he was leaving her now and that she hadn't cried enough when he had left her back then. She didn't feel like she had cried enough.
"I'll remember." She said, leaning against him, closing her eyes, taking in his warmth and the feeling of his arms around her for as long as she could, as long as this dream lasted.
