~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Felix~ ~The Cerulean Champion
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Felix, being one of the last horsemen to enter the temple, stayed closer to General Caesar and the knights as his cavalry units charged in. He wasn’t at all surprised by his lieutenants’ impulsive act. The chaos Garet created usually worked in his favor so his captain didn’t worry too much. Enemy soldiers were caught off guard and this gave the Legion an advantage. Whatever worked, within reason of course.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Quite a few lance wielding horsemen equipped their javelins while the axe wielding ones brought out their hand axes if they had them. The ceilings were high enough for the pegasi to fly so logic stated that they would use aerial tactics. But with these babies those fluttering ponies wouldn’t be out of range.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~On the guardians’ side orders to avoid spilling blood on holy ground were given. They were already weakened. Why give them a handicap against fierce intruders? Perhaps these pegasus knights underestimated the driving force of their trespassers. Felix respected the want to keep this temple sacred but was it worth staining the floors with their own blood instead of their foes’?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Pitying them, the blue paladin delivered blunt, nonlethal blows with the reverse end of his lance to the pegasus riders who dare try an attack on him. His skillful hits left them winded and bruised, but at least they were not bleeding externally or dead. If they attempted another strike, he smacked the injured spot from his previous attack until the guardian was in too much pain to retaliate anymore.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Some people would call it underhanded while others would call it effective. This fighting style was intended to get the opponent to submit defeat without killing. Felix did not enjoy being murder one bit. He understood it was all a part of a soldier’s life; however, it didn’t mean he had to like it.

Rina and the other Peg Knights darted here and there through the temple, thanking whatever soul had decided to build it large enough for a pegasus to fly freely in. Adara swooped down, her hooves stomping on a row of helmets, the pegasus flying carefully to avoid getting either her or her mistress hit. Rina gritted her teeth; if the priestess didn't want blood shed here, then the Falcon Knight would try her best not to shed blood. But she made no promises; things were going to get dicey, and these intruders were annoying. Several of the Holy Order Knights were already bruised, some knocked unconscious. Rina found it odd, and just a little unsettling, that the enemy was trying just as hard not to let blood be spilled on the holy ground.

She didn't have time to be unsettled, not when there was a battle going on. She dodged a javelin someone threw, then batted away a hand axe with her sword. The cavalry was getting smarter. And somehow, she'd gotten a cut on her face, perhaps from the javelin. There was no time to tend to it now, and she would not retreat even temporarily for something so simple as a scratch.

Shouting for them to follow her, Rina led a faction of the Peg Knights in a charge, attacking the cavalry with lances, hooves, and a few solid slaps with the pegasi's wings. If they couldn't kill them, they would at least beat them back, literally kicking them out of the temple.

A man whom can conquer his fear can strive to conquer the world.
>x-General Caesar-x<

Felix's troops were taking the route of just beating into the Guardians, not killing them, however. This mercy was actually crucial to when the great Archanean King ruled over the lands that Caesar and the Legion conquered. It showed that his soldiers, unlike even some of his fellow countrymen, had mercy and should just simply be surrendered to. That way, they could even avoid injury. It didn't take a commoner to see the message that Felix and his cavalry were sending to these holy guardians.

As the Guardians were knocked aside, Caesar's armored men fanned out to his left and right, some of them capturing the steeds of fallen pegasus knights and getting them to submit to force. These beasts would be valuable later, surely, when it came to taking the air with the swiftness that Lancelot's wyverns couldn't even reach. The General didn't use his strength against these weaker members of the Guardians, wanting to uphold to his and Felix's silent belief to not shed the blood of innocents on holy grounds.

His axe would only fall on those who gave Caesar no other choice. That is how it always was in his eyes. Everyone got what they deserved, whether it was the commoner's freedom, the Noble's stripping of their titles, or other solders' defeats. Although he wasn't the great Hero Anri, Caesar felt his weapon and his soldiers were means to carry out the Hero of Light's will. Even if he had to go into holy grounds and invade, the Great Hero knew what was best, and he was watching the Legion, guiding them to a path that would lead to victory of all whom deserved it.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Conflict between the Archanean Legion and the priestess’s guardians continued. Neither side was going to give up so easily. A new strategy was needed if they wanted any more progress in finding and capturing their target. Assessing the surroundings, Felix started to gather a simple plan. He didn’t have the genius of their tactician, Antonio, but hopefully this would be good enough to complete their task.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Joel quickly galloped closer to Caesar so that Felix could relay his future actions to his commander. "General," the paladin called out. "I think we can end this faster if a small group splits off to search for the priestess while the main forces distract the guardians. Once she has been captured, they will have no choice but to surrender." In his mind Felix knew General Caesar wouldn’t object to this plan. In fact, the cavalry’s captain had a feeling his superior would follow the scouts so he could see the surprised look on the holy woman’s face when the Legion invades her hiding place.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Spotting a weakening area in the enemy’s flanks, he decided to not wait for a response from the higher ranked officer. He knew the answer anyway. Now was the time for action. The sooner this ended the sooner they could return home. The general always kept his eyes on his aspirations. Motioning to his most trusted lieutenant and a few other subordinates, the scouting group formed. Felix joined this little collection of horsemen in case a strong opponent was to block their path to victory.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~"Need an opening, sir," Garet asked with his Steel Axe resting on his shoulder. "I’ll create you one!" The great knight charged eagerly at the pegasus knights. He engaged the enemy and attracted their attention. "Now’s your chance! Go!"

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Felix nodded a thank you to his other lieutenant then began to ride past until he heard an unusual bang of metal.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~"ACK," cried out Garet as he was hurt; his helmet dented in from a pegasus’s kick and blood started to trickle down his face. "Damn these flying ponies!" He swung his axe diagonally as the foe soared in close. The winged mount neighed in serious pain as its front right leg fell to the ground in a bloody mess.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~"Garet," his superior yelled in both anger and concern.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~But before any scolds could be shouted, the injured man roared with fury, "No quarter!" He quoted the first commands given. In the beginning they didn’t intend to give the enemy any mercy and now that the second lieutenant was pissed, the gloves were off. No more mister nice axe wielder!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Gripping Joel’s reigns tightly, Felix was about to turn around to stop Garet’s rampage when Isaac blocked his way. "We have our orders, sir." The rest of the scouting group started traveling on without them unaware of the berserk soldier’s rally to violence. Felix let out a deep sigh. His conscious began to bug him already, but Isaac was right. Finding the high priestess had to be top priority.

Garet's strike that he made to the pegasus knight was an impatient one. It was good to see him nice and eager to strike, but not in a way that used the General's orders as a reason to be barbaric. He would have a word with Felix's Lieutenant later, for now, yes, the mission was very important. Isaac was right to say that they had to focus on capturing the priestess. Her guardians were only obstacles to overcome in the Legion's goal, there was no need to smash them into pieces when they could be valuable assets later when Estarcia was liberated and they became indebted to the Legion.

Felix's words were heard loudly and clearly. Splitting up to search for their target wasn't a bad idea at all, especially since the enemy would be far too distracted by the attack of the main forces to worry about anything else, including the holy one that they were supposed to be guarding. Guardians were almost amusing in this way. They swore their lives by their weapons to protect one person, and in the end, whom they really wanted to protect was themselves. It was almost pitiful.

"You and a small squad will search for her, Felix. I can handle holding them off. Get going." If one listened to his tone, truly listened, they would hear that a General wasn't just giving orders. He was showing how much he truly trusted the Captain of the Cavalry, by letting him be the one to carry out the mission's goal. He could put his faith that Felix wouldn't botch this, and maybe the Cerulean Champion would pick up on that hint in his voice, however slight it was.

Rina was more than annoyed at this point. Having to fight without shedding blood was a lot harder than it looked, and they were quite obviously outnumbered. And at least one of the enemy no longer cared about keeping the temple grounds clean, using his axe to cut into a pegasus. Rina looked away, internally cringing. She had seen bloodshed before (she had lost count of how many times Estarcian troops had fought against stray monsters from Mordache), but the sight of an injured pegasus--or any other animal for that matter--tore at her heart.

Determined to seek vengeance for the injured creature, Rina directed Adara to fly above the battle, out of reach of any javelins that might come their way. She surveyed the scene below, searching for an opening, searching for the leader. Above it all, Rina saw the faction breaking off, forging a new path through the dwindling mass of Pegasus Knights.

They're after the Priestess, she realized. They must be.

No.

"I will not let you take her!" she shouted, lance raised, charging at a man clad in blue armor who looked to be the leader of the faction. "I will not let you win! By my name as Priestess Guardian!"

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Felix traveled in the back of the scouting unit. He had a feeling he would be needed in order to protect his fellow soldiers. That was one of his responsibilities as a leader.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~The group searched the ornate temple corridors, carefully looking for any hidden passages which could be hiding the high priestess. So far no luck, but they must be getting close. Suddenly Felix heard an angry female voice yelling at him. The owner of that tone began to rush towards the blue clad paladin with her lance aiming at him. Kicking Joel in the ribs, he quickly got himself and his mount just barely out of this guardian’s attack path. The guardian’s lance lightly scratched his cerulean shoulder armor.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~"I admire your determination, but I can’t let you stop us, miss," he addressed to her politely and calmly. At his side, Felix held his Brave Lance with the sharp tip facing the opposite direction, ready to strike with blunt force. He still kept to his principle of not shedding blood. If this woman charged again, he would use the same tactics he performed on the rest of them. "Your troops’ strength is dwindling. How do you plan on winning? Answer me this: why do you continue to resist against an army much more powerful than yourself?"

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Meanwhile Isaac took command while Felix acted as a distraction. It only appeared as though the scouts were abandoning their captain. Time was of the essence, all of the Archanean Legion knew by now. They continued their search with haste.

She watched the rest of the faction move on, shouted for her own troops to cut them off. She hovered above the knight, glared down at him.

"Why should I not fight to protect what it is my duty to do?" she challenged. "What kind of knight would I be to let some ruffian beasts take off with my lady? Why do you--What gives you the right to barge in here in a foolish attempt to make off with my Lady Priestess? If you wished to seek her council," she added, gripping her spear tighter, "then you could have just asked!"

She wanted to charge him again, but surely he would expect that. She would not let her emotions get the best of her. She wanted to know his reasons for fighting, to understand why an army would attack a temple. To understand why he, a knight, would question her sense of duty. To understand why someone would abandon their child.

Mentally, she slapped herself. Those demons had been laid to rest, slayed a long time ago. Or so she had thought. And now, there was another demon to slay.

She frowned at the paladin, waiting for his response.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Isaac and the others clashed with the incoming pegasus knights. Even the patient lieutenant was starting to get annoyed. They fought until the enemy could no longer stand in their way.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~After hearing her response, Felix simply smiled his usual kind and gentle smirk. This woman was loyal to her duty, that was for sure. Maybe the Archanean paladin wouldn’t have to go easy on her after all.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~"It would be naïve to think that just asking will get what you want. Especially in this wicked land," he replied. To be honest the horseman didn’t fully believe all of Estarcia was evil as that sorceress stated, but he had faith in General Caesar’s decisions. Right now he wanted to target the guardian’s emotions. If he could get her to be unnerved, then perhaps she’ll retreat. "The world doesn’t work like that no matter how much we’d like it to." Felix spoke truthfully from experience as a soldier when those last words left his mouth.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Letting out a soft sigh, the armored rider raised his lance up to a jousting position and signaled his steed to gallop quickly towards the hovering falcoknight.

He was right, of course the world didn't work like that, but she could not let him get to her--he was obviously trying to mess with her. She would prove him wrong the old-fashioned way--defeat. His loss would prove his fault, however crude a way that was.

But to call all of Estarcia wicked? Surely he was mistaken. All kingdoms had their problems, naturally, and while some of Estarcia's more powerful nobles were indeed corrupt, the kingdom as a whole was not wicked, especially not when compared to Mordache.

Apparently, this knight was not one to mince words. He spurred his mount forward, toward her position, hefting his lance. Rina shifted her own lance, adjusting her grip. When Felix attacked, Rina, focused her attention on him, thrusting all else from her mind. She dodged, reminding herself to be patient.

As Felix recovered from his attack, Rina urged Adara, the Pegasus flying straight for the knight. Rina kept her eyes on him, no longer caring if she happened to draw blood if it meant that she could defeat him and protect the Priestess. When she was close enough, she lunged, thrusting the lance at the knight, hoping to do more than scrape his armor this time.

A man whom can conquer his fear can strive to conquer the world.
>x-General Caesar-x<

The Guardians that Caesar faced were both bold and dedicated, he had to give them that much credit. It was a shame that they were facing him, they would have made wonderful soldiers of only they weren't his enemies. The waves after waves of them were growing thinner, and their ability to rush Caesar's men was dwindling fast. The battle was turning in his favor, as they always did when he was in charge. Archanea's armored division knocked knights from their pegasi and marched past them, leaving those defeated where they lie. They would not be able to get up and stab their spears or swing their swords, and that was enough for the General to be at ease of not spilling the Guardians' blood.

One of Caesar's Great Knights who scouted ahead signaled his superior. There was something that he found, otherwise, he wouldn't be calling. Cautiously, the General followed his subordinate side-by-side until the two stopped. They stared at a conveniently placed light rune, it was right in front of a door that looked like it would have been hidden under any other light. Now that he got a good look at the room, Caesar noticed it was well furnished and painted with images of whatever deities that Estarcians believed in. This must have been the room where she resided, and that light rune was the exhalted priestess's last defense.

"What do we do, sir? You know we can't get past these things... they're blessed by holy magic." The Great Knight looked upon his General nervously, wondering what would happen if there should ever be a change of plan. His superior didn't like changing plans, especially not with new developments like this one. Anyone who saw the General angry desired to never see it again, and unfortunately, this scout had seen it once. "Never, ever again..." he prayed.

"Just stand back, Augustus. I have something that will even break the holiest of seals." The General gave the order, watching from the corner of his eye as his subordinate withdrew a safe distance away from both him and the glowing light rune. It was then that he set down his steel axe, drawing another axe from behind his black cape that trailed behind him bearing the Archanean seal. This new axe that the General drew was more sharp and wicked-looking, like it was designed to cut through anything, maybe even time itself.

If one looked really close, they could notice a chilling cool in Caesar's face and voice. His eyes were steel with the resolve of one thing, conquest. When he held the new weapon, the light rune glowing full of holy energy in front of the sacred quarters became an obstacle, not a spectacle. With a stone cold voice to match his nearly statue-like expression, Caesar muttered a command. "Decimus, conquer the thing that lies before me." After he spoke, he took a swing, and some kind of wave, whether it was magic or something else entirely came from the wicked axe's blade and struck into the light rune. It tried so hard to keep its light bright, but in the end, it failed and cracked, opening the path. Now the doorway was open. Putting Decimus back in its place and not even turning around to see the face of the terrified Augustus, Caesar picked up his steel axe and went forward: nothing between him and the priestess whom was probably on the other side of that doorway the light rune previously guarded.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~"These hallways were built strangely," Isaac thought to himself as he rode alongside his fellow scouts. Before long they had almost looped back around the inside of the temple. Just up ahead a man in Archanean armor stood trembling. The cavalry lieutenant recognized him and urged Flint to run faster. "Augustus! What’s the matter?!" The younger paladin questioned what could scare one of the general’s knights like that.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Talking had some effect but not much. His first test attack missed complete. Felix pulled Joel’s reigns to direct the horse back to facing their opponent. It seemed Caterina was determined with her next strike. It was very visible in her eyes.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Lances are piercing weapons designed to penetrate the enemy’s armor from a distance. That’s why they were almost perfect weapons for mounted units. Well trained in using these types of arms, Felix could predict how his adversary would attack. Of course, she was attempting to stab him through an exposed area on his torso. This guardian appeared to have forgotten her lady’s will. Suddenly Joel neighed worriedly.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~The rider panted lightly. "Give up and escape unscathed while you can," he ordered. Felix had slid to the side at the last second as the lance started coming towards him. Her spear tip embedded itself into his thick leather saddle. Not giving her a chance to retract her weapon, he wrapped his right arm around the wooden shaft and held tight. With his own lance gripped halfway in his left hand, the captain swung the blunt end at Caterina’s wrist.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~She had two choices. Either let go of her lance thus losing her weapon or take the blow that would most likely break her wrist.

A man whom can conquer his fear can strive to conquer the world.
>x-General Caesar-x<

A voice was coming from somewhere, and that made Augustus jump even more before he turned to face one of Felix's Paladins, Isaac. He sighed, mostly from relief that this one wouldn't bring forth the terrible destruction that his superior's ultimate weapon was capable of. He respected the General with all a man could respect a superior with, but the strength of Decimus just wasn't... natural. There was something almost eerie about how strong it was, and how it changed Caesar.

"Issac, the General used it again. He used that... terrible power." It took a while for Augustus to realize that he was still shaking, before he controlled himself. He, like many others amongst the Legion General's most trusted had been the only few allowed to see a weapon that was definitely not made by an ordinary blacksmith. "Every time I see him use it, he looks a little less like himself." Although his tone was calm, the panic laced in the Great Knight's voice was there to stay.

The Legion General, Caesar's eyes scanned the hallway that he was now marching through alone. There were no friends or foes here, just solitude as far as the blonde Archanean could tell. He heard the clanking of his own armored footsteps, still listening for the signs of an enemy ambush or a trap's trigger. Just because one was in solitude didn't mean they were truly alone.

However, no traps or ambushes were coming Caesar's way. It felt like this was too easy! Then again, the best of his cavalry were keeping the Guardians busy while he made his way to invade these sacred chambers where eventually he hoped to find the priestess. All he needed to find was a door, and she would be behind it, probably not armed enough to put up a fight to a battle-ready General either. Once she was in his grasp, this skirmish between his men and the guardians would be over.

Almost as if the Great Hero from above were answering his thoughts, Caesar did come upon a door. All he would have to do is walk through it, and the rest would be simple. His soldier's sense led his eyes to scan the area for more trap triggers, or a last-ditch ambush from the Guardians. If they were going to pull something, it would surely be now. Although there were no signs, the General took cautious, silent steps forward, prepared for anything. If nothing got in his way, he'd go through that door wordlessly and not let anyone know he was there until his business was taken care of.

With her lance now caught in the knight's saddle and the knight's hand gripping it tightly, Rina opted to release her lance rather than risk injury were she to take the blow. His lance struck her own instead, sending it flying, the shaft broken in two.

So much for that lance, she thought. Better it than me.

With no time to lose, Rina slid her spare weapon from its sheath, the sword whistling through the air. True, a sword was not the best weapon to use against a lance, but it was all she had left to defend herself with. Thinking back to her first days in the Estarcian Army, before she'd decided to try for Pegasus Knight, Rina smirked.

Without thinking, Rina guided Adara with her feet around the backside of the paladin, swinging her sword in one of the simpler battle dances, if you could call them that, that she had learned after her promotion to Falcon Knight and earned the right to battle with a sword in hand. Of course, Rina expected the knight to defend himself, and directed Adara to fly just out of easy lance reach before circling back to strike at the paladin's shoulder straight on.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Isaac remained silent as Augustus spoke. The cavalry lieutenant had heard rumors from his fellow soldiers about Caesar’s terrorizing weapon, but he failed to believe them until now. Seeing the general’s own subordinate shiver made him slightly uneasy. Looking from Augustus to the open path, Isaac took a big gulp. "The general is up ahead I take it? Perhaps we should give him some support so that he doesn’t have to use that power again," he suggested. "We’d arrive faster by horseback." The younger paladin offered his hand in order to help the knight onto Flint.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~As expected the guardian let go of her lance. Felix broke the embedded weapon and half of it went flying through the air landing seconds later on the tiled floor. The other half remained by his side. Pulling it out of Joel’s saddle, he gripped onto it. It wasn’t long before Caterina took to offense again. This time she was attacking with a sword. Felix frowned slightly. She didn’t know when to give up this futile battle. He already fought longer than he wanted to.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~After blocking her blade’s strike with the broken piece of the pegasus knight’s own spear, the Archanean paladin thrust the opposite, nonpointy end of his lance into her breastplate. The force from the impact would surely throw her off balance; even knock the guardian off her mount.
