Rayne Bloodstone Flaratia My definition of obese is when you sit on a chair and manage to break it just by sitting on it. If they're really that damn fat, then they have a problem. ₲reen acid on your Ϩʞ↕и
Then you have the wrong definition. Or a poor one, for better words. It's when you are over the determined healthy weight for your height. For instance, I am 5' 2 1/2" and I should be about 120 - 145 lbs, but I'm not. I weigh more then that. To know if you are overweight or obese, you need to check your BMI which you can look up on the computer at any time.
For myself, I am considered obese. I don't eat a lot but I get no exercise.. ._. Which annoys me. Now I'm not one of them girls that wants to be a size 4 and go to a tanning salon but I would love to be able to get under a 12 again, since anything over 12 isn't all that cute or really hard to find. To be a 12, I'd have to get to about 145 - 160 lbs, if I remember correctly. *looks it up*... Eh, less then 160 but more then 140.
₣eels like you're dieing ΔɠΔ↕и I'm sorry that you feel the need to correct my definition. I base my definition off of my step dad who believes that he is NOT fat. He is 6'6, 400+ lbs and DOES NOT think that he's fat, even though he DOES break things when he sits in them. Anyone that just can't do that I don't believe is gargantuan enough to need to really worry about their weight. Now, honestly, I'm also your height but weigh around 110 lbs. I've been underweight for most of my life and it has caused me to not reach my full height, as both of my parents are 5'8 and over. Like itchyman said, The BMI index is flawed. You can't tell between fat and muscle. Muscle is more dense and heavy, so a muscular person could be considered fat/obese even when they are not.

Flaratia Like Solar said, The BMI index is flawed. AHEM! >o> Shiori Miko My health teacher says the BMI works okay unless you're "big" muscle wise. Not really, it was horrendously wrong when I put my H/W, and I don't have that much muscle and I can think of plenty others who would have similar results.

Low Self Esteem+Media=paranoid, messed up girls. :/ Some girls just do it for pity and for people to tell them they don't look fat. That's just the case for this and a lot of other things in my school. When a twiggy girl is calling herself overweight, she either has serious problems,or is an attention lover.*cough*girls in my school *cough*

I agree with Solar about the BMI being inaccurate. According to this article, waist-to-hip ratio is a better form of measurement.
And this article says that even some professional athletes are considered overweight based on their BMI! XD Plus, it's the same for both women and men, even though we're built completely different.
(I remembered reading these a while ago and went to find the thread that I found them from. This thread has lots more links like that, if anyone's interested in reading more =3)

Again, I find your definition fairly poor. You can be obese or overweight and not break a single object when you sit on it. He may think he is not fat but that's his issue. And his ignorance.
BMI "is" flawed, I never said it was accurate but thank you for putting words in my mouth. In order to tell the difference between actual fat and muscle, as I said, you would NEED to go to the DOCTOR and get tests done to find a mostly accurate rating. The BMI gives you an IDEA. What part of that did people not understand?

According to my BMI, my weight is fine. According to 'ideal height-to-weight' ratios, I'm about 5ilbs over what I should be. My personal opinion? I don't want to lose weight so much as I want to tone up. I have flab on my stomach and thighs that I find unattractive, so I want to get rid of it. I'm not trying to impress anyone but myself. Maybe it's a self esteem thing; I don't think it's really a 'media influence' thing for me personally, because I don't want to look like some of the twig-like girls on TV.
To be honest, if a girl tells you your opinion doesn't matter about something like weight, you should respect that. If she's trying to become unhealthily skinny, yeah, you should try and help her like herself as she is, but other than that... well, they say that how you view yourself is more important than how others view you. If a girl doesn't think she's beautiful because of her weight, shouldn't she be allowed to try and change that rather than having her opinion dismissed because a man says she's fine?
aaand this post ended up kinda ramble-y.

I blame the media talk2hand
Though technically you can be "fat thin" where you look thin and healthy but actually unhealthy with all the same risks as someone who is obese; basically you can be obese without looking fat. That is typically women who are naturally slim without working out though, so I'm probably in that category *needs moar physical activity*. But that's a different matter and a tad off topic.

=w= I've been going in and out of overweight for years, Don't have a constant weight.. Sometimes I'm too skinny sometimes I'm too chubby for my body frame...
I think it's more in terms of if you're healthy... I have weight issues cause I used to exercise tons so the amount that I eat kept up with that routine. Then when I stopped the exercise, the diet stayed the same so I gained weight. Then I'd start exercising again and the same thing would happen over and over... As long as you're healthy and not inconsistant, a little bit of weight isn't bad... But if you're about 20+ pounds over weight yeah that's bad...
=w= too much weight leads to medical issues, too little weight also leads to medical issues.

Being a girl who lacks self confidence and has low self-esteem, I do most of the time think I'm fat. I'm about 149cm (4'10", Yes I'm short. Yes I'm a adolescent.) and weigh about 49.5kg (roughly 109 pounds). My BMI is 22.3. Last week, I was about 113 pounds. I exercised a lot this week, and I haven't been eating properly ( In my view. I don't eat lunch sometimes ). I lack self-confidence because I don't really know about myself, and I don't really like my body, because there are people of the same age as me, in the same height area that are skinnier and weigh less.
No, I just want to loose a couple of kilos, 3.5kg would do. To do that, I'd have to motivate myself.
I don't want to be one of those models in TV or those thin-twig legged actresses. There are too many girls who look up to them that have anorexia and those who have eating disorders.
A girl should look at their weight and their body and say that they need to improve their body. By doing that, they state their opinion on their body. If they say that they want to be very thin, that means they're exaggerating it. :/

haeyin my ideal arrow voluptuous is beautiful
I agree. I haaaated how I looked back when I was actually "healthier" (i.e. thinner). I gained more self confidence as I gained weight, which probably isn't very common in this society... XD
I'm just lucky to have found a perrrrfect man who happens to agree 4laugh heart

For my BMI, I'd be pretty overweight. However, since I know I have a lot of muscle, I kinda ignore that a little blaugh I want to lose about 20 pounds, but that's mainly for my sport. Thinner = faster, as you maintain the muscle and you have less to drag through the water. I'm going to be done with that soon (hopefully around june/July, depending on how athletic I feel), but I don't think that there's a lot of media influence about this for me.
