I don't mind Lady Gaga, some of her songs are nice. But I don't see what the big hype is over her, shes not THAT great, but a lot better then the other current mainstream pop musicians I've heard.

Ugh, I've been away too long.
1) The Gaga has probably of the greatests voices our decade has seen. Don't believe me? Try listening to her live. She sounds EXACTLY, if not better, live that she does on the record. I defy you to find a singer who can do that.
2) Record songs aside, again, look at how she intro's her songs live. Lavish piano/vocal intros that no one can beat. I can't think of anyone who doesnt stray from the formula like Tha Gaga does. Meldoy changes ftw.
And to be blunt, she's hella funny. Creepy, but funny.
What Gaga is, hasn't been seen in a LONG, LONG time. Kinda like what Madonna and Cher used to be. The triple package. Entertainer. Talent.

Talent. 1) Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, and Brent Smith (Shinedown) all come to mind. I've seen them all live and I was shocked by the quality of the vocal performances of all three. Celine Dion in particular has a live singing voice that blows away anything else I've heard. I don't know if you'd think of them as "singers" in the sort of pop sense you're talking about, but Eric Clapton and Rob Halford both sang better when I saw them live than on their recordings. Same goes for Tommy Castro. And Johnny Rivers. There are really quite a few singers who thrive on live performances.

Digi pretty much summed it up. She's capable of writing some catchy hooks and has a decent voice, sure. So can a thousand and one other bands and artists that will never gain anywhere near the recognition she does. I can understand why people like her (as opposed to something like, say, Brokencyde, which has absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever), but she's really nothing special musically.
I wouldn't mind her so much if I didn't have to hear about her and her music on a daily hourly basis. If I never had to hear another one of her singles, I wouldn't mourn.

And I still stand by my statement.
She is good and talented. But I'm not too into her music, it can be alright but I'd rather not listen.

I have to go with Hollow on this one. My gf got me into Gaga a while back, and I was extremely surprised by the consistence of the catchiness of her songs. She's one of the few pop artists that get radio play that I can enjoy. 3nodding
Also, stupid joke: How do you wake up Lady Gaga? You Pokerface. Alt answer: Just Dance.
...Yeah... sweatdrop

Now, I'd be willing to allow for other musicians or vocal quality BUT!
Something The Gaga has, that 99% of others lack......epic skillz. Not only does she sing (and incredibly at that) but she masters her piano playering (Yes, I said playering) AND still manages to entertain you live. How many times have I gone to a show only to sit there bored thinking, "Yeah they sing well but.....do something.....anything........phail." I defy you to watch The Gaga and be bored.
I didn't expect anything less than hate from you all anyhow. I mean come on, it's dance/pop. But props to Rotting Gnarl for having taste.
Yeah, I said it. scream DEAL.

I don't know where everyones getting any hating from me, I never said I hated Gaga, I just don't think she's quite the musical prodigy everyone seems to think she is.
I like quite a few pop artists, thank you very much. talk2hand
