well one thing i might like to say is that one can't truly go by the word of the bible. it was technically written by a human being. and i see your point that it never actually says that its a sin. and the general assortment of people do seem to only use eisegesis to validate their own beliefs.

To me, I find it strangley funny when someone uses the bible to put down homosexuality. I mean, there's millions of crimes being commited world wide and they just want to hate on someone based on who that person happens to fall in love with! Please, give me a break.

The bible is sorta a cheezy secret hiding everything else people don't understand it might tell u every one waz gay back then or somethin else but everyone else put it in another book instead of the bible.... + its mostly made by guys so who has any fact that this is right or wrong like in roman and greek times during the olimpics the coaches would have sex with the kids they where teachin also the whole idea of god being a woman, black, and soon on really pisses people off these days like wats ur idea on it?

Hyperactive Hawk How is this not stickied? this. i'm gonna read this more thoroughly and then leave my comments. it looks like most of what i think is here, so... yeah. ><it's nice to see a thread like this and not one just complaining about religion, for a change. edit: so yeah, i pretty much agree with what's said here - the moral guidance offered by the bible is often lost in translation or bastardised to meet the ideals of a condemning minority. with religion in general, i don't know what i believe. i do think that there would have been at least some prejudice against homosexuality in the times of early christianity, and through that i think that some of these prejudices would have been carried through to the bible (as i've said, i believe the bible to be moral guidelines - and since the bible was written by man, this seems logical to me). i don't believe it to be as huge of a moral transgression as some people abuse the bible to make it seem. that said, as you pointed out, there are an awful lot of teachings that have been dropped by modern christianity to suit modern values and life. the only thing i didn't agree with was your mentioning of sexuality being a big deal to a large group of religious people. as i've already mentioned elsewhere in the guild, i believe the hatred surrounding alternative sexualities is only found in a minority, but since this minority make the most noise over the issue the rest of the religious following get a tainted name. what upsets me the most with issues like this is that so many of the glbt community turn away from their religion because of it, and so many atheists use it as a reason to patronise religion as being decadent and juvenile in the scale of evolution. religion is important, it was the first foot-hold for science and curiosity, and even if the lessons in the holy documents aren't true, they would still be wonderful stories of morals, love and tragedy. why use them as something hurtful in any case? yeah. tangent there, but that's what i think. ^^

I am very impressed at how you've put this all together! It's nice to see the other side of this issue, when I've heard so much from those who prejudice against homosexuality. I'm a strong believer in God, yet with so much controversy over the bible's judgement of homosexuality, I was starting to doubt the book as a whole, and simply look to my church and myself for my views. This has really helped me to realize how much the words of the bible have been twisted, and now I can have a strong opinion on the issue and actually know what I'm talking about! So thanks! mrgreen

I’ll erase this feeling… I still have a long life don’t I? kono omoi wo keshiteshimau ni ha mada jinsei nagai deshou? To add to the Leviticus point the word toevah refers to things that aren't clean. In other words things that are just not kosher. To further this point, shellfish, pork, women's menstration cycles, etc are all listed as abominations in Leviticus. The bible itself doesn't condemn homosexuality and it never has really. All it condemns is inhospitality, prostitution, orgies, bestiality, a**l sex, oral sex, etc. And well sex before marriage in general. What's interesting for Catholics is that the Catchechism says that homosexuality isn't a sin. However it calls for homosexuals, like heterosexuals to be celibate. I’m missing the feeling… so this pain is also welcomed! natsukashiku naru konna itami mo kangeijan

Like I always say when I hear something about the Bible frowning down upon homosexuality, it was written by man, therefore it's full of holes.I have read parts of the Bible and you really can't take everything it says literally, cause' if you do you will go to freaking jail, lol, like that whole "eye for an eye" thing. You yourself as a person need to know what is right and what is wrong and when to act and when not to,that is why God gave you a brain to rationlize.I just flat out don't believe that God would make homosexual people if God hates it,we're all his children and loves us all equally. So I think all that homosexual bashing is just flat out bullshit, plain and simple.

This should be stickied. Really. I wish every Christian would actually read the bible and think about the historical time period it was written before making silly assumptions. I used to believe in 'God', but it wasn't my thing. :S I felt it was too contradictory; how could a god of love and forgiveness enjoy having so many people killed during the crusades over a city - weren't all humans his children and murder was wrong (even if it was in the name of Him/Her)?
But this is really useful information for gay Christians to stand against fanatical Christians.
Maybe one day, Christians will chill out. That would be great.

That would be great. well you should consider that at the time of the crusades the catholic church was basically corrupt. it controlled most of Europe and functioned more as a monarchy rather than a true religion. the people sent to reclaim areas for the church were promised that they would go to heaven if they did so. ill tell you right now that this is actually against the bible and the commandant thou shall not kill (which generally means any person at all times regardless of conditions, the only saint for example that comes to mind in contradiction to that is Joan of Arc who was basically a military general/commander/whatever but she also let them kill her by burning at the stake...btw her enemies were also christian)

Eve if the Bible said gays are bad, it should not matter since we should not let a story book rule our lives and think for ourselves. That is all I will say since anything else I say that I think should be said will get me in trouble.
