He took the note and waved with the other, and for a moment, wondered if something would go wrong. He expected to try the number to get someone else’s cell and when he asked her in the hallway the next day, she would pretend not to know him. That idea terrified him, and even if he ran now to check his phone to see if it worked, he knew that running wouldn’t make a different. If the number didn’t work, he wouldn’t run after her, and wind up feeling horrid for the rest of the day. Such a scenario was very real to him and made him sick, and since she was gone, he returned back to the locker room to find his cell phone.
He wondered if it would be creepy, but he wanted to break the reality now before he put his hopes too high for Friday, which was why that before he took a shower, he sat down and sent a text to the phone.
‘Just testing. – Ladon’ He wrote, wondering if he would get a response back or a very confused response for a phony number. Still, he had the address, but who was he to know that it wasn’t to an old friend or neighbor. He sat in the boy’s locker room while the rest of the track team was getting ready to head home.

Tate was starting her piece-of-crap 2001 Ford when her cell phone buzzed and leapt into the theme song from Soul Calibur; cursing, she scrambled for it in her oversized gray bag, leaning over the console. When she did get it, the theme song had ended, and the icon for a new text message was blinking for a number she didn't recognize.
Huh. She had thought... if he was going to text, she'd thought he would have waited a little...

Was he as skittish about this as she was? Tate bit her lip, flipped open the keyboard on her cell phone and keyed out: 'See you tomorrow. -Tate'.
Tate Konstantin did not set people up. She put her cell phone in the cup holder on her console and started the car, a smile on her face.

He waited anxiously for the phone to ring that he nearly dropped it when it buzzed to life. So few people actually bothered to call him that he never bothered with a ring tone and usually had his on vibrate anyways. Gripping the cell more tightly, he took a breath and then slowly flipped it open. The number was the same one he texted, and he opened it.

A wide grin spead over his face, which didn’t go unnoticed by Derrick, one of the boys who did hurtles. “What’s that smile for? Talking to your guurrllfriend?” he jabbed, reaching over to mess up Ladon’s hair as he passed him, his duffle thrown over his shoulder.
“No.” he shot back, shutting his phone and putting it back into his locker as he started to grab his things to go take a shower. “...just a friend.”
