i would have to say my favorite auther would have to be gail giles.
she is so smart in how she defines her characters and how she uses them to make the story seem like ther horrible thinks are really happening. she decribes he settings so well you can see it. not just have an idea you can see it. she makes the crazy/insane characters work for her. she writes thrillers that you can not put down tell she book had been read cover to cover.

My favorite author is Edward Abbey, although his non-fiction is my favorite side of his work, over all. (He wrote multiple novels and multiple essay collections.) My favorite elements of his non-fiction work are: His amazing writing skillz (he had an amazing way with both descriptions and the texture of writing), his sense of humor, his very distinct lack of politically correct tendencies and/or political dogmatism, and his writing mannerisms which lead one to wonder if they're reading the writings of a genius trapped in the body of a hillbilly.

to be perfectly honest, i really don't know who my favorite author is. i read way to may picks to choose an ultimate favorite. i love dean koontz books cuz they are indepth and actually make me think. i like erin hunter books cuz i like cats and they are funny. i like the house of night novels (i can't remember who the author is off hand) because i can somewhat relate to a few of the characters. i also like james paterson books. any of them. some are funny and make me feel better when i am sad, but others are more in depth and make me think about them. yah...

Mercedes Lackey because her books have a lot of depth to the so you really feel like you're a part of the story and not just an observer. Though that makes the books hard to put down because you feel like you're switching from one person to another or that you've just come back from a different world. Her's are the type of books that you nearly always want to read in one staight go, rather than putting them down and then coming back to it later.
Also Yann Martel/Matel? because "The Life of Pi" is amazing
