Well, it's a murder mystery, where you play as 4 different characters. It's all about making decisions, depending on what you say the turnout will be different. The acting is amazing, and these are probably most photorealistic characters I've ever seen in a video game. Like, without exaggerating their facial expressions, you can clearly see what they're thinking, what they're feeling. The visual acting is great. Did you play the Demo?

Three things which did irritate me about the demo were that at times it could be too dark, particularly when you play the 2nd character. And secondly, is there a way to make the characters run? Having them walk everywhere was really slow. And thirdly...I couldn't figure out if it was possible to move the camera...one analogue stick moved the character but the other one didn't move the camera and it could be annoying, particularly when walking towards the camera.

Well, you could adjust the Gamma in game to make it brighter. No, there is no way to run. In real life, an FBI agent wouldn't be running around a crime scene. There are sequences when a character is either chasing, or frantically searching for something, then they run.
You can switch the camera by pressing L1, there's only 2 possible angles, usually.
But neither of those things are bad things. Fixed camera angles rule.

Well, there's a prompt right at the beginning of the game (and the demo) that prompts you to adjust your brightness in-game.

I sort of expected that to only be in the full version of the game. you're right that people wouldn't run..so it makes sense..but they could at least perhaps jog a little or walk faster lol. But the camera annoyed me the most. I know you can change it to a different one but I still think it's awkward to not be able to move it freely.

Yeah, just check the options, and the gamma adjuster is there.
The fixed camera gives it a more cinematic quality though. That's why you're pushing R2 to move forward, so that you don't change direction when the camera changes. There need to be more games like that. It used to be a defining trait of survival horror games, now they're pretty much all over the shoulder shooters. I hate that.

It is more cinematic but after all, you're playing a game, not watching a movie. I hated the way that sometimes you couldn't see round a corner or couldn't properly see an enemy attacking you in those old games with fixed cameras. I prefer being in control of it. Games developers get slated all the time for having poor movement in their cameras so it's understandable that they make them all moveable now.
I've just read that there is a sex scene in Heavy Rain. There's a video of it floating round the internet (it's only like a sex scene in a movie, not porn..you don't see anything..it's more like the build up to sex). You have to control the guy's actions while he kisses the woman. Can't believe they actually put someting like that in the game. I know there were several sex scenes in Indigo Prophecy too..

Games developers get slated all the time for having poor movement in their cameras so it's understandable that they make them all moveable now. Well, people complain too much. It's like there should be one unified way all games are made, which there isn't. Some people don't like fixed cameras and complain about not being able to see around the corner... If you don't like it, don't play those games, don't just say, "It should be different." That's the way the game is, that's the style of it, deal with it. I mean, in my ideal world, you should be able to see your character on screen all the time. Which means there would be no first person shooters at all. But they exist, and I simply don't bother playing them. I'm not gonna say, "Bioshock should be in third person." It's not my type of gameplay, I won't bother with it. There's plenty of other teriffic games out there. So it's the same with Heavy Rain. There are different types of games out there. Some people don't like turn based combat, and they won't be playing Final Fantasy. That doesn't mean that Final Fantasy should change (even though it did, but I'm not gonna get into that.) And yes, even though Heavy Rain is a game, not a movie, it's more along the lines of "Pick your own adventure" rather than "Run around shooting things". It's a different genre of game, and it's extremely effective if it looks like you're playing a movie. Shadow__Dweller I've just read that there is a sex scene in Heavy Rain. You have to control the guy's actions while he kisses the woman. Can't believe they actually put someting like that in the game. I know there were several sex scenes in Indigo Prophecy too.. No, you actually see some breasts. 3 times in the game, in fact. There's a shower scene, a striptease scene and a sex scene. And frankly, more power to them. I don't see why it's such a big deal. I mean, you can play God of War, and literally rip someone's stomach open and watch their intestines spill out, but seeing a woman's nipples or a sexual scene is so taboo? You know, the only reason things like that are so controversial is because people make too big of a deal out of it. It's like violence, too. There was a point when someone said, "Man, you should check this game out! There's SO MUCH BLOOD!" and yeah, if that's your reason to buy the game on a massive scale, then it's gonna draw some attention. Eventually, everyone stopped caring, and people make a big deal out of it when there's NO violence. So sex is the new thing, and you'll have people say, "Oh man! You should buy this game! There's a chick who takes her top off! And there's a sex scene and everything!" And yeah, if that's your reason for buying the game, then you're probably not worthy of playing Heavy Rain at all. Heavy Rain pulls it off in a mature manner. It's a mature game, not just in rating, but in its overall nature. That's why when things get violent in it, it's more than just, "Oh look how much blood!" It's like, you can almost feel the pain the character is going through.

I knowi t's meant to look more realistic but I don't think it does. When you're looking through your own eyes you can't just see a pair of hands and that's all. But at least it tends to be something only used in shooters, which I don't play anyway. The only game I liked in first person was Mirror's Edge. It's like, you can almost feel the pain the character is going through. Sex does seem to be the new taboo in games. I think people make such a big deal out of it because they have this idea that games are for kids...but if a game has a 16 or an 18 on it it's there for a reason. If you're unhappy with sex or violence in a game then don't let your kid play it. simple as that. But parents these days don't want to take any responsibility at all' the blame is always on other people, like adverts or movies or games. I'd rather they not put sex in a game but if the gameplay was good enough it wouldn't stop me from buying it. It also depends on whether it's really "necessary" to the game. I know they're trying to make it more adult in Heavy Rain..more serious, because it's a game aimed at adults anyway, however I did read a review that said the female character is lacking a personality and she seems like a man's "dream girl"...she's asked to strip by a gangster at some point and you get to ogle her like he does...and when she sleeps with the guy, even though she is the one that moves to kiss him first, there is nothing remotely sexy about him..it's almost as if as a woman she is not given anything to please her yet she is represented as someone who is sexy to guys. This is just one persons point of view, and I've not played the game so I can't agree or disagree, but it makes me think about why people put sex in games. If it adds to the game then fair enough but if it's just for shock value or just because people like to ogle naked pixels it's a waste of time.

And even then, when I'm running around the field, exploring, I switch it to third person. First person I pretty much only use for exploring tight spaces, or precision aiming. Shadow__Dweller Sex does seem to be the new taboo in games. After Sex gets adapted into video games like violence did... What's gonna be the next taboo? Madison actually has plenty of personality. Yeah, she's a man's dream girl, in a sense that she's smart, independent and she can take care of herself when going up against dangerous situations, and that's what I like in a female protagonist in a video game. I mean, it's your choice entirely to make her strip. And if you accomplish that scene without taking her clothes off, which you can, you get a Dignity Trophy. And if you wanna justify this sex scene... Well, Quantic Dream is a French company. Where would France be without Le Sex?
