Wow you got to talk to her? Damn I'd be way to afraid to talk to someone... I got nervous talking to my friend after he directed a play at school XD

*snrk* I get that way with the Phantom actors something awful. My friend Marc just went up and chatted away with Ted Keegan about how they do some of the effects, and how horrible the weather here is, and how he and I both want to get into theatre... I'm just standing in the background like 'o__o;; You're the Phantom... I want your liiiiiiife... gonk '

But I'm marginally more coherent with the other cast members. *snrk* Actually, I've accidentally stolen the John Cudia's pen on two occasions. But yeah, Rebecca Pitcher is really sweet. We talked about how she got her role in Phantom, and how her poor boyfriend at the time became a roadie for the show so he could tour with her...

I feel like it might be because I have no self esteem and deep down I know they're normal people but then I'm all "They're untouchable and godly..."

I'd probably even be like that with my girlfriend if (and very much hoping when) she can get the part of Christine.

xD I /kind of/ talked to Sandra Joseph.

xD;; I was very freaked. I was like " eek Sandra...."

xD; She signed my playbill over her picture. < 3! xP;;

I'm going to try to meet Gary Mauer at the stage door when I go see Phantom in... A week or two, I think. xDDD

I'd have no guts to even get near the stage door...

Sarah Brightman is sooooo good!!! I am in voice training right now and I have been working on learining to sing "Think of Me" that song is difficut!!! It's not the high note at the end but the rythm of cadenza at the end!

I know! I want to do that song too, "It's for a soprano, not a mezzo" my teacher says....

Oh well, I can only wish!

Sarah Brightman has gotten better over the years, if you ask me, but I think that her voice is a little too operatic for Christine at some points.

The sad thing? I can sound like her.

Sarah Brightman is my all time favorite Christine. She has a beautiful voice, and I thought she was perfect for Christine. Many other singers I've heard don't have an operatic voice (which Christine is supposed to have! She's an OPERA singer!) Many people don't like her voice, but I love it. I'm sorry but she's the best. Emmey Rosum was pretty good, but you can't beat Sarah. Michael and Sarah rock!!

Actually, she doesn't NEED an Opera Singer's voice. It's a musical. The only time there's really an operatic quality involved is perhaps Think of Me and the Don Juan scene. They get sopranos who can at least hit that high E (or D, depending). And they need to get women who can both dance well and sing well, which most opera singers are trained to do. :B

And I think why most people don't like it (myself included) is it's too harsh for the role. Her voice is agressive and her vibrato is annoying to the point of distracting. Christine needs a light, innocent voice.

Agree that it's technically a musical not an opera, but I don't think it should sound like an overblown pop ballad (even though it is) either.

O.o; If you think Sarah Brightman's vibratto is annoying I'll bet Dale Kristien would make your head explode... As far as vibratto goes, Sarah's isn't bad at all. And when she was in the cast her voice was very light. (Wouldn't want to hear her do it now, though.) I think it's just that she has much darker pronounciation and tone than a lot of Christines.

And I've been told that a mezzo can sing the role if they can hit that one D. (Heck, Rossum couldn't hit it and they gave her the movie role.) Since voice range is all relative, it's not set in stone that only sopranos can sing Christine. Really, all of her music is in the mezzo range except for the two cadenzas.

I suppose they just lower the note's range for them to hit. *shrug* Pfft. If that's the case, then they ought to sign me up. XD

Her voice was light compared to how it sounds now (yikes and double yikes to her stuff these days) but there was just something about listening to that vibrato when she held notes. It's like listening to two instruments, both out of tune, play the same note at the same time. You get that wave between them which is sore to the ears.

I just have a hard time settling to her voice. Even my mother, who was a voice major in College and used to do Opera, doesn't care for her. I wonder if it's simply taste and not something entirely up with Brightman's technique.

I still like her middle eastern fusion stuff. But that's mostly for my dance. I might just record my dance to Harem and put it on youtube
