"Do you guys welcome families within the pride? Fel and I are no spring chickens, but we would like to welcome a second litter into our lives at some point."
She smiled with a little nod.
She looked over to Shani, and motioned that she speak up with any questions, and that ignorance would not be an excuse for stupidity later on down the line.

"I should like to join classes as well, and if you could be so kind as to set up a meeting with the pride leaders with myself, Id greatly appreciate it."
She chuckled.

Shani's ears were still flattened agaist her skull. Even worse now that her mother was directing her attention at her. She piped up the first question she could thing of. More because her father had been droning on about it and second she really didn't like to be confronted on the spot about things. "Are there any ya know males... about...well thats not what I mean. I'm sorry I screwed that question up." Her eyes narrowed further away from her mother. "Yes I'd like classes. I'd like classes alot. I'd would really like to start classes...soon." She still didn't look back at her mother one bit.

"You have to take classes if you join, else you aren't admitted to the pride - this is so you can understand the culture you've joined and so ignorance on your part or neglect on ours can't be an excuse if rules are broken. For those born in the pride there are lessons for all age groups, because some jobs require on-going training, so there's no age limit. But they also aren't too intense or too long, the courses, and the quicker you learn the quicker they end. Besides our days are split up. If you're working and in class from dawn until midday you won't be working and in class midday to nightfall for example." The wolf paused to clear her throat, muttering a quick 'excuse me' and wondering if she was talking too much. They'd be able to hear all this from someone actually in charge later. But Macheo'd offered to answer questions, so, it'd only be courteous to continue.

"You are all only limited in rank by your own drive and skills when it comes to what you wish to do. The nobles are no longer the only ones to be taught so they are no longer the only ones with high rank. Though really, a hunter who helps keep our bodies fed is as valued as the priest that keeps our gods contented." She hoped that point got across. It was a reform of the old ways that had to be repeated and repeated, because some just didn't get it. Their Pharaoh was quite adamant about it, that all of the ranks were important and that none were to be looked down upon like in the days of his uncle's rule. Why, one of his own daughters was a dedicated huntress despite being a princess because that was where her skills and passion lay.

"And you'd certainly be able to try for more family. It's a large pride and we care for our young. There's been some very large litters recently and in all the seasons I've been here there's been at least one litter. So there's quite a few lions about around your age Shani." She cast a sly smile towards the young lioness. Ah to have courtable males around you. Macheo loved her life here but she'd have to find a mate from outside the pride. In the plague and wars of the past most of her kind in the Tuait'tekem were killed or scattered to the wilds.

"Though...this will be explained later but have you heard of marriage before?"

Shani couldn't help but cast a small fleeting smile as her question about males were answered. She was young and her heart was fluttering with nervousness about her first encounter with love. She wasn't sure what it was exactly but her parents were devoted to one another completely- and she was sure that was what she was looking for too. Somebody to have by ones side for the rest of your life.

"I'd like to take some extra classes..." She spoke softly and thought of impressing her parents becoming a priest or a higher 'rank' in the pride. Her mother would be proud and it might make up for the sadness she bad about her evil brother Roth...who for some reason thought he had a demon in him. What a weird lion he was. But she'd want to ask Macheo privately about that. She wanted it to almost be a surprise if she did succeed. She didn't want to get her parents hopes up too much in case she failed dismally. She never was good at paying attention.

Feleji cocked his head to one side as if trying to gather as much information as he could all at once. His mind was like a sieve sometimes and thought it was important it sometimes had trouble sticking on the inside. He blinked once or twice hard as if trying to capture the ideas. Macheo did speak alot and quickly about many things.

"Marriage? Well the word isn't familiar to me. But I assume it's just another word for having a mate?"

He didn't want to seam rude by his statement. He just wanted the other to know he was trying his hardest to gather all she was saying.

"I uh could be wrong though..." He added very quickly returning his head to dead center.

Val knew that marriage meant bonding. Its something her Hyena father who had raised her had said. She remembered it quite clearly, though she wondered if this was the same kind of marriage that she was speaking of. She could only assume so, based on what the conversation had been about...family.

"Classes, eh? What a brilliant idea. I like a pride that has actual intelligence over brawn." She replied, hoping she wouldnt offend by her statement, though she didnt mean it in the slightest way to be bad. She was used to seeing prides that relished the strong.. This one relished the smart, or.. at least the ones with common sense. Or so she was assuming.

"Sort of. It's a bit more than just having one. When you're an adult you take a mate as your married partner - a female is called a wife, a male a husband then - and after that they're your only mate. It's supposed to be a happy thing, a finding of a soulmate. Loyalty is prized highly and cheating on a partner or having cubs before marriage is frowned upon. Marriages are only dissolved if the bond can't be fixed, say, if one partner is abusive or both are depressed and agree to split." She explained, since this would be something that'd affect them if they intended to stay and have cubs. And their daughter too, would have to know this. She wasn't so young, still a child yes but almost an adult. If she'd been pride born, she'd still wear a lock-of-youth in her mane but she was old enough that romance probably had started to interest her.

"If you two are mates and intend to continue as mates, you'd be considered married."
