"So you lived."

Clearly, Soren was preferring to state the obvious. Of course he lived! If he didn't, he wouldn't be sitting in that chair, talking with the Sage right now. Rei placed a hand to his chin, giving Soren a slightly curious eye. He never seemed like the type to state something so simple and clear, after all.

"Well, of course we lived," Rei said, a tinge of sarcasm in his voice. "But, the constructs... that dragon, the mage, and the doppelganger of my brother, they were destroyed, even before the ordeal was over." Rei sighed a slightly melancholy sigh, and looked out a window again, trying to pinpoint the sun behind the massive gray clouds.

"And the two different yous, I... I think they died." Rei didn't want to go and prattle on about his revival from death. Wasn't exactly a fond memory, as one would expect. If he could dodge around the subject, he'd feel better, but if it must be said, it must be said. "Er, the tower was gone, after all..."

(( Lovin' that post, Soren~ ))
...What the heck did he mean, he's not dead? Rei fell silent, only staring, mouth slightly agape at the Sage's remark. He took a deep breath, and closed his eyes, trying to see if that Soren knock-off had really, truly died...

They were in that tower. With all the dead bodies floating, random limbs sticking out of books, things like that. He didn't remember any other towers off the top of his head, so he couldn't be confusing his memories or anything like that. They fought the Soren pair and the doppelgangers. Ninian killed the dragon, Rei tore Lugh apart, and that other mage, the Druid or something, managed to simply disappear or something. And then, there were those odd tendrils, creeping through the room and killing everyone.

There was that domed purgatory, the one that Rei could not damage. Things got a little foggy, but he surely remembered nothing whatsoever of a Soren in there! And they didn't see any Sorens when the ordeal was over, either.

"If he's not dead, then where is he?" Rei asked, irritation clear in his voice. If he would end up getting more vague, cryptic responses, the Druid wasn't sure how much longer his temper would last.

He could see that Rei was mystified. That was natural, as Soren had also been somewhat perplexed by the situation in regards to that event. He studied the young druid's face in search of meaning. Clearly, there was frustration, and his voice mirrored it moreso.

"If he's not dead, then where is he?"

Idly, he wondered if Rei would be alarmed by what his answer would be, and if anything dangerous would come of it. But the sage determined it was more dangerous to leave hi in the dark rather than provide an outright response. With little hesitation, little more than a blink, Soren gave him his answer.

"He is in the attic of Fefga's mansion, where he had dwelt since nearly the beginning of his existence."

"There?" Rei kept his reply minimal. If he chose not to restrain a simple answer, rage could overtake him, and that would be quite bad. Instead of clenching his fists, screaming, and demanding they go remove the doppelganger from the mortal coil, Rei only sighed. If the enemy came back after they beat it, what was the point of even trying? The man could just try to recreate the events of the fall, except make things more likely to end in his favor. But, just barely entering that mindset put a bad taste in the boy's mouth, bringing up scattered memories of a time when he was, suffice to say, much weaker, both magically and mentally.

If there was anything Rei wanted to avoid, it was a slip back into that pitiful state of mind he thought he'd discarded those months ago...

"So, why haven't you done anything about it?" Rei scoffed, crossing his arms. Were they left alone, he could be tempted to possibly throw something, or just be an all-around jerk. Plus, it made him feel more confident.

"I mean, there's a hostile trouble-maker that looks just like you, shouldn't we do something about it?" As far as Rei knew, there wouldn' t be any good reason to not go and right the wrongs the look-alike caused, even if all they would be able to do would be to just erase the being from existence. In Rei's opinion, it would be a damn good way to get rid of all of the rage he'd amassed from that ordeal...

Indeed.

Why hadn't he done anything about it?

As Soren continued to stare rather impassively at the Druid, he mulled over the facts and the possibilities in his mind. There was no question that Neros was dangerous. Although he was weak at current and was not inclined to stir any more mischief, that was not the reason Soren had not yet hunted him down to his head and heart. There was something else. Again, the sage prodded at the gaps in his memory, at the blurred faces, and again hints of some dormant frustration began to wake.

But in due time he simply said, "Some other duty kept me in place." Soren realized that his body had taken on some sort of stiffness, so he made himself relax in the chair. "Ask me not that it was. I'm not entirely certain myself, although this duty was what taught me a mastery over these ancient magicks. As well as removed a crucial half of my individuality." He wondered with some impassive vagueness if this was how Spirit Charmers felt after an extended period of time. Was he little more than a shell now, or was it one of many other conditions that he had yet to consider?

"That duty no longer binds me, however. Are you hard-pressed to eliminate this problem?"

Soren and those unknown distractions of his. They were surely beginning to grate on his nerves, to say the least. He hardly even knew who he was, where he was, and all of those wonderful, central pieces of knowledge that one would have. Still, Soren's straightforwardness was rather surprising, when it came to the fake.

"Well, he has a connection with you, right?" Rei smiled a schemer's smile, and shot Soren a rather sly glare, as if the pieces were falling together or something. "And you're clearly somewhat... fractured, if you're saying that half of your individuality is missing. So just because something isn't binding you to do it, doesn't mean it doesn't have to be done, eh? ...So, wanna go check it out?" Rei reclined in his chair, smile still on his face. He'd be waiting for a good reaction, on Soren's part.

To say Rei's behavior was unsettling might have been a bit of an understatement. Even the impassive sage seemed wary of the druid, although a quick analysis showed that there was little else to be done anyway and it might have been of some benefit to deal with this sooner. He betrayed no hint of being ill at ease, keeping his hands stationary rather fiddle and fidget. He did wonder what Rei would gain from this. Perhaps he had some motives of his own, or perhaps he merely sought to face the man who had nearly killed him.

"If it would do some good," Soren replied, keeping his tone in check, "then I don't see why not."

Aside from the fact that Rei probably had something up his sleeve.
