High up in a tower, in the uppermost room, stood a large stooping figure, draped head to toe in robes and cloaks, including a large hood and mask. On the floor a diagram was drawn, with a pentagon in the center, a different symbol at each corner. Only the barest whisper and mutter could be heard of some strange chant as the figure slowly circled around the drawing, sprinkling some strange powder about, carefully avoiding knocking over any of the nine candles placed about. There was a flash, and the figure stood up straight, raising its arms up high above it's obscured head. Although perhaps shouting might have been a little more dramatic, the figure just whispered…

"I summon thee, Demons! Come to my beck and call! Slice through the matter that sustains this world, and serve your master!"

A second flash was seen. Then a small ball of light appeared, floating about four feet above the diagram. Tendrils of arcing energy shot out and writhed in an array of colours. Slowly, the orb of light began to open, and a powerful whirlwind began to stir within, tussling the loose scrolls and papers about. The figures layers of material flapped in the wind, and other miscellaneous items light enough to be picked up by the invisible force began to dance around the room. Finally, the vortex was now a good seven feet tall, five feet wide… and the first few beings were brought through…

Magus-General Joe Simpson, clad in his regal mana armor and standing at perfect military attention, appeared within the circle. For about half a second, nothing happened; then he noticed where he was - and it was not where he expected, clearly.

His stance shifted, his center of gravity lowered. His hand fell to the hilt of the saber at his side and he took in the room around him. Joe zeroed in on the hooded figure, tensed, then...

He was gone. The Magus-General had - BAM - there he was. He slammed into the hooded figure, sword drawn and point aimed at the figure's throat, mere inches away. "Who the ******** are you?" Joe grated, and the hooded figure realized Joe's left eye was a hovering ball of fire. "And where am I? Answer quickly, creature, or I'll end you even quicker."

Caught off guard and obviously flatfooted, the hooded figure fell down under Joe's assault with ease. The hood fell back, revealing a mostly human face, although the skin was gray and the nose slightly upturned. Two small horns poked out from a hood of long black hair as the summoner's dark brown eyes stared with horror at the blade, going cross eyed from its proximity to her chubby face. Yes. Her face.

A femanine voice broke out, sounding genuinely afraid. "No-no this isn't... that's not what's supposed to..." she stuttered before she could even process the questions being asked. She gulped noisily, squirming a little at the sight of the flaming eye bearing down on her. "I am Merasha. Y-you are in... in the West tower of-of Trazalk. Please, oh mighty demon, calm yourself!"

The vortex began to flash again, issuing the entrance of the next out-worlder.

Next out of the portal was Rena. The fairy had been flying happily through her forest home when she was suddenly engulfed in a bright light. She could sense the magic in the light, and knew it was a type of summoning spell. As her body began to fade from her world, she wondered. Who would want to summon me? Soon the light was more than she could take, so she closed her eyes and let herself get pulled into the void without resistance. When she opened her eyes once again, she was in a strange world, one she had never even imagined was possible. It seemed that she was on a really tall structure, and all around them was the sea. Just what kind of place had she been summoned to? Her ears heard something, and she turned to see a person in a cloak, who she could feel was her summoner..her master..and a strange creature holding a blade to her throat. Giving a small gasp, she flew a bit closer and said. "What are you doing to my master? Let her go!"

((I'm assuming that summoned creatures are somewhat bound to the summoner, so Rena will be calling the cloaked figure Master until told otherwise.))

Joe held a hand out to the little fairy, and a swirling ball of white fire appeared in his palm. The sheer magical energy that the man could radiate was like a palpable aura. If he focused it, it was likely that he could even crush smaller magical beings.

"What sphere is this? What dimension? And..." he paused, looking the summoner over, "just what are you?"

Merasha stared at Joe, still wide eyed, when she heard the sweet little voice of the next demon. She only briefly chanced a glance over at the fairy before staring back at the more demanding presence which was Joe. "Sphere? What? I.... this is Ahret... and I'm... I'm an Ahren..." The tower shook a little under the strain of the build up of magical energies, and the oblong shape of the portal began to ripple and become irregular. It spat out a third form, before expanding and then contracting to almost nothing.

"NOOOOOO! The SPELL!" for a moment Merasha forgot about the immediate danger of the powerhouse as her spell began to come undone. She braced herself, almost expecting some sort of explosion... but none came. She peeked an eye open.

Flung against one of the walls of the tower, a third figured draped in light, sandy and tan coloured clothes groaned. Slowly, she picked herself up and wearily looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings. Confusion ran rampant as all the blurry images slowly became sharp and focused. Her eyes fell on three individuals, one who had another pinned with a blade out, and a third and smaller being hovering about. "Where...?"

((Well, yes, there would be some beholden feelings to the summoner, for those who understand the nature of summoning. Those who choose to ignore these feelings, can. However, Merasha obviously has no direct control over those who come through the portal - as her casting level is beneath the complexity of the spell.))

Rena's body unconsciously shivered when she looked into the magic that the man was using. It was many levels above anything she could even hope to cast. She gulped and then continued to press on, despite knowing that she risked getting killed. What kind of summoned creature would she be if she let her summoner get hurt on the first day? "Please leave master alone? I'm guessing that you've been summoned too, so if you calm down, I could tell you the basics of what happened." She knew very little about summonings, but she had to bluff in order to get the other man to calm down.

Joe paused. Interesting. He had never heard of this place, or these people. But they obviously knew magic, and maybe there were some more powerful than this summoner in this Sphere.

He released the summoner and put his saber away. The magical aura in the room dropped noticeably, but the man himself still radiated waves of energy. "I apologize, then," he said, to both the summoner and the smaller creature. He ignored the final summon for the moment, though if anything occurred he was prepared to deal with it. "I reacted hastily, I suppose. You say this was a summoning? I've never heard of a summoning that could pull someone like me across the Spheres. Can you teach me this?"

As the summoner was trying to answer, Joe said, "Oh, and little one? I admire your spunk. You're all right by me." He smiled, which was mildly threatening, what with the whole flaming eye thing.

She gave a deep sigh when she felt the heavy presence of magic drop, and once she got her body to stop shivering, she flew over to her summoner and then landed by her side, saying with a smile. "I don't know why you summoned me, but I'll try my best!" She smiled up at her and then heard the larger creature speaking to her. She pouted and said with a frown on her face. "I'm not little..I'm a fairy so this kind of height is normal in my world." It was a lie. Even in her home she was often smaller than the other fairies, which made her sensitive about people referring to her by her size.

Joe laughed and held up a hand. "All right, all right," he said, not wanting to offend the apparently young fairy. "So you're magical too, then. Hmm. Interesting."

He turned his gaze to the summoner, Merasha. "So you've summoned us; mission accomplished for you. I assume there are some kinds of conditions that bind us to you, as in my Sphere. I'll hear them now." It wasn't a request, really.

The summoner had been quiet, torn between trying to figure out why the spell cut off short before all the beings came through. Her eyes darted tither and thither between what did some through. Finally she cleared her throat, picked herself up, and straightened her robes. She lifted her chin, or chins rather, and gazed levelly at Joe, hoping to look dignified in lieu of the terror she was exhibiting prior.

"The summoning spell is an ancient and mysterious magic that had been sealed away for several millenia.... and I am bound not to say more on the matter, as only I and one other know its secrets."

Merasha was not about to add that she didn't know HOW the spell worked, just only what to do to make it work. She'd already shown inedequacy, and if she was to garner the support of these demons, then it was best not to continue to appear a dunce.

"And I thank you.... little one." She couldn't think of anything to call her but 'little one' despite her protests. Finally her gaze shifted to the third which had just barely gotten to her feet. "I will explain why I summoned you..." her eye went to where the portal had been, almost expecting it to open up and pit out another demon. None came. "...in a few more moments."

The third summon finally was on her feet, and cautiously approaching the rest. Her hands wrapped around herself and she gave a very noticeable shutter, seeming cold despite the heavy linens she wore. Her fingers barely peeked out of long sleeves, and most of her face was obscured by a veil.

"Summoning? I do not understand what you all speak of," said the woman.

"We've been pulled out of our own worlds and dimensions and brought here," Joe said to the third summon, though his eyes stayed locked on the summoner. "This...woman, I suppose, has drawn us into her Sphere with her power."

His eyes flicked around Merasha and she realized he was analyzing her power. "And if you won't tell us more," he said to Merasha, "then can you please return me to my world? I don't have time for this."

Rena looked heartbroken as even her own master called her little. "Even you Master? My name isn't little one, it's Rena Hikari. You can just call me Rena though." She giggled and then flew over to the other summoned woman, who seemed to not be aware of what was going on. She thought that the other creatures explanation was a bit too simple, so she gave her version of summoning. She smiled happily at the woman and said. "We were summoned here. When you're summoned, you are pretty much broken down into your most basic form, which is energy, and transferred through space, or in this case dimensions. Once here your body is reformed like normal." That was just about all of her knowledge of summoning. She had no idea HOW the energy gets through space, or even how the body is broken down, but she did know it was powerful magic nonetheless.
