Lanryel blushed at Sean's comment. It was kind of him to try and make her feel better with their situation, and she liked to hear that she wasn't the only one who was a bit out of sorts. Seeing that he seemed to be a bit tense, she was about to apologize for being so secluded when he made her jump after slamming his fists down. She didn't like loud sounds, they reminded her too much of the very faint and fleeting memories she had of her earliest years of life and how her life in the orphanage became a daily attempt to avoid the taunting and abuse from the other orphans.
"I'd like to at least know what is going on..." she said lowly, barely audible; she wasn't sure she wanted to return, as the thought of going back to face Father Donovan made her cringe. Suddenly, Lanryel was distracted by the sight of Sean's cards that moments after their discovery were tossed unceremoniously to the floor, scattered like broken glass. Hopping down from her seat, she stooped to collect the cards up, not wanting to leave them lying on the ground.
However, before she could touch a single one, they all disappeared without a trace. Confused, Lanryel glanced up at the old woman just in time to see Sean headed out of the tavern. Watching after him as he rushed out, her eyes fell on something beyond the door that made her heart skip a beat. In the street beyond, she noticed a sign on a nearby building that read "Orphanage" in detailed, scrolling letters.
She had seen that sign before, and something inside her began to stir. The last time she had seen her friend before he disappeared, they had been inside a building with that same sign. Perhaps, if he was here in this strange place, he might be inside that building. Thanking the bartender and the old woman with a short bow, she rushed out after Sean, her intent on getting to the Orphanage. Entering the town square, it took her a moment before she realized just what was going on around her. Everything was warped and what she could only describe as monsters lurked the streets. From where she stood, she could not see Sean, but the Orphanage stood before her a short distance away. Several of the monsters began to turn their attention on her, and with a twinge of fear Lanryel felt the sudden urge to hide away somewhere. Without a second thought Lanryel dashed the remaining distance to the Orphanage. Looking back from the front steps, she wanted to call out to Sean, but something grabbed her from behind and pulled her inside, the door closing behind her.
