"Not really," Kira replied flatly, head tilting slightly away as he nearly bumped her. He didn't care much for personal space, did he? At least the blood's scent wasn't fresh. He certainly rebounded from rejection really quickly though. Maybe she hadn't rejected him clearly enough, or perhaps he was immune? Either way, it was tempting to believe that she'd rather be alone than deal with this. Sadly, this type of impossible situation left her pretty desperate for company.

"Why are they scared of you?" she asked after a pause, glancing back to him. He didn't look all that scary, if she disregarded the dry blood and creepy grin. "I don't look scary... just dumb," she added grumpily, turning away again. She had a couple claws on random fingers, but they weren't very noticeable unless one paid attention.

...not that I want to seem scary.

She lowered her head, letting her chin red upon her knees. It was strange talking about it to someone outside of her family, and she found her frown returning as her eyes focused back upon the floor. She should still be panicking, but instead she was simply sharing her secrets with some total stranger, who was also a pervert, and he didn't even seem to care. It was difficult to comprehend, but it did take her mind off things. Then again, nothing could entirely distract from the situation.

"...we should look for food or something," she announced, ignoring his latest grin as she pushed off the wall and rose to her feet. But she had said we, and she was waiting, unwilling to go off alone even if he was persistent. Her head turned side to side as she tried to pick a direction to move in, while her tail flicked carelessly against the back of her legs. Stupid thing... She was still wary of nicknames forming.

After casting another glance toward him, she began to slowly wander back in the direction he'd been heading. She figured he'd have a better idea of where to head than she would and the idea of getting lost in a maze with him wasn't very appealing.

"Food?" Lake scoffed, starting to walk as well. "There isn't any. At least, not enough...not that I've found. Sometimes people find a small refridgerator or two, and if they're lucky, it's still got power. Only thing in those is some freeze-dried supplement meals, though..." he sighed. "There might be more on other floors - if there are other floors - but I sure as hell haven't found any." He looked up to scowl at their surroundings for a moment or so. "This place just goes on forever..."

He waved a careless hand at her as he passed, then started into the maze of hallways that preceded the holding cells Kira had woken up in. "But good try, kid. Some use you are." He sighed, but then paused, glancing over his shoulder at her. "Unless...you can't smell good, can you? I mean, really good. Through walls?!" He frowned, evidently frustrated. "Sniff out some food or something. That'll gain you some points with the others. At least, I think it will. Who the hell knows? They just group together in a...group all the time. Expect me to know everything. Follow me around." He sighed, a little dramatically. "I'm sure some of them are trying to kill me on the down-low..."

If there wasn't any food, then why had he burped earlier? Unless he really was eating other people.

Kira frowned, nearly shuddering as she remembered his mention of entering her room, cell.. thing. The idea of that was more than unsettling.

The thoughts were shoved from her mind as she watched him move past her, taking the lead again, while at the same time complaining about people following him. If that was the case, he could've just let her keep going. Either way, she trailed behind him at a slight distance, listening quietly as he rambled, causing her frown to deepen a little.

"M-maybe?" she stammered, glancing around as he asked about her sense of smell. She wasn't sure how good it was, but she could identify who'd just entered the room with her at home. Perhaps if it was necessary (and it now was), she could do a little more with it, now that she had a reason to try.

"Who are the others?" she asked, though she had an idea. She skipped up a little closer, moving just behind him and almost level with his side. Almost. If they ran into any 'others' she'd rather they see his familiar face before her foreign one. She didn't want anyone or thing attacking her. "Why do I need to gain points with them?" Did they have food or something stored up? "And... why does everything you say involve something dying?"

Lake glanced back at her again. "Does it?" he responded vaguely, trying to think back to anything he'd said. "...Oh well. If it makes you feel better, one of us could be dead soon. Then you won't have to listen to me talking about dead things." He paused. "...But there's dead roaches in the bathroom. Just so you know. You can eat them if you want."

Man, now I'm hungry again.

He sighed, shaking his head, then gave a heavy sigh, lifting his shoulders in a shrug. "I don't know who the hell they are. They're just stuck here, like you. If you don't make friends with them, then when they run out of food and decide to eat each other, you'll be first." He paused. "Maybe they'll kill you before that. If they don't like something, some of them can't help but destroy it."

As they worked their day through the twisting maze of halls, they passed by several heavy, locked doors, endless stretches of corridor, and even what appeared to be an exercise room, though half the equipment appeared to be powered down or broken.

"Man, I'm beat." Lake sighed, and at last, came to a stop outside what appeared to be a massive, empty storage facility. It was dark, cold-lookng...and in bad shape, judging by the strange, claw-shaped gashes in the walls and some burns and other oddities along the floor. "Are you still here?" he added, glancing back at Kira. He perked up a little, looking suddenly hopeful. "No, don't tell me...you changed your mind about me, hmm?" The sleazy smirk was back. "I knew you'd come around~"

"Why would anyone eat a dead roach?!" Kira cried, looking ready to vomit at the very suggestion. More and more, she was wishing she could just work up the nerve to venture off of her own. Maybe she could find these others and befriend them instead. Though, he portrayed them as somewhat violent so that didn't make her feel very keen on the idea. Still, this guy really was a total downer, in an already very unpleasant place. It wasn't helping very much.

She let her eyes wander over things as they passed, trying to take note of areas and create a mental map of where things were. She just might be able to manage such a feat, if her nose felt up to the task. At the very least, she figured she should be able to figure out where they'd already been so they could keep exploring new areas and not just go in circles.

But this guy really wasn't making her want to stay. Every time he opened his mouth, it was like repellent. If it wasn't death, it was perversion, it seemed.

She couldn't help the eye roll that followed up his latest assumption. "No, I haven't come around," she grumbled, folding her arms over her chest. "I just don't... want to be alone here..." She trailed off, her tone dropping, sounding temporarily pitiful, but she recovered quickly. She took a breath, and decided to creep into the latest room, poking her head through the doorway before venturing fully inside. The claw marks drew her in first, and she approached the nearest marred wall and gingerly pressed her hand to it.

Maybe... one of the others are like me.

Lake watched the girl intently, his crimson eyes flashing as she inched into the Practice Room, her pale hands against the wall. He noted that a few of her fingers boasted claws on the ends of them, and his eyes narrowed slightly.

"...Nobody wants to be alone here," he responded in a murmur, his eyes on the claw marks, too. "W...well, I mean...most people. Everyone except me. Probably. I don't care. I like being alone." He puffed his chest out. "I'm not afraid of anything," he boasted, oddly childish. "I could be alone here all I wanted to. I just don't feel like it right now." He paused, then wriggled his eyebrows at her. "'Specially not with a minx like you around," he added slyly. "You're - shh! Watch out!"

Out of sheer reflex, he swept over to her at the sound of a clanging noise echoing down the hallways...his hand closed around her arm, and, pulling her against him, he ducked behind a pile of crates. His free hand came over her mouth, eyes sparkling dangerously again as he watched the doorway they had come through, muscles terse against Kira's back.

A few moments of silence passed, until, finally, Lake let out a sigh and relaxed, releasing Kira and getting to his feet (indeed, he didn't seem to have realized he had grabbed her at all, at first).

"Never know what's making noises around here," he muttered, moving out from behind the crates. "Sometimes it's just the building itself. Sometimes, it's something - someone - else." He paused, then glanced back at her, wrinkling his nose. "D...don't think I was trying to help you, or anything," he stammered abruptly, his cheeks reddening a little. "I was just making sure you didn't get my a** in hot water. That's all!" He turned away from her and folded his arms. "I don't help people."

...She smelled really good.

His claims didn't sound very convincing as he prattled on about wanting to be alone. However, she was more focused upon the claw marks, her own pointed nails dipping into them to compare. Before her distracted mind could dig up a response, she felt herself abruptly grabbed and jerked against him.

At first she had no idea why. She'd heard the noise, but the movement distracted her from fully registering it. With all his perverted comments so far, she felt briefly panicked to find herself jerked against him with his hand over her mouth. Her fingers closed around his arm, began to pull, then loosened again as it clicked. He wasn't moving. He was hiding, and he'd tugged her to safety as well. Maybe he wasn't all bad then...

She sat perfectly still, other than her eyes. They were wide again, staring around, toward the door, up at him, and everywhere else she could catch a glimpse of something. But, there didn't seem to be anything worth seeing.

Finally, she felt him pulling away. She'd honestly found herself too startled to try and be the first to stand, or make any noise to provoke his hand to move. Then again, trying to speak might've simply made it tighten. Her eyes watched him as he stood, catching the light from the hallway and reflecting eerily back at him like a cat's, as her hand lifted and lightly rubbed her face where he'd held her.

"...oh, of course," she replied, and slowly got to her feet, finding her legs had suddenly turned to rubber. She stumbled a little as a result, slumping against the wall for a moment until she thought it safe to take a step and straighten. "I guess I don't owe you a thanks or anything then." He seemed often childish in the way he protested things... She studied him silently for a moment, until another brush of her tail against her legs had her jolting in alarm again, and caused her own blush to form.

"...di.. did you want to keep going?" she grumbled, snatching it up as her own expression faded into a pout.

"Tch!" Lake folded his arms, turning his nose up at her. "You'll thank me sooner or later!"

He sighed again, moving idly out into the hallway and looking back and forth a few times before leaning against the door, looking down at her with his nose wrinkled.

"Keep going? Yeah, right. Who do you think I am?" He plopped abruptly down on the floor and stretched his legs out, hands behind his head. "You can't expect me to look around ALL day. If you think you can find a way out in the next few hours, by all means." He gestured out to the hallway again, then closed his eyes, scowling. "Tch...I have to do all the work around here..." He shook his head. "And just when I thought I was going to get a little peace and quiet around here...another one of you had to wake up...hey." His eyes blinked open again, and he rolled his head to one side against the wall to look at her. "What color was the square beside your door? Do you remember?"

Kira frowned, her hands wringing her tail nervously between them as she stared right back at him. Sitting still made her antsy, but the chances of her venturing out now even even slimmer than before after that little disturbance, even if it had been nothing. So she huffed out a sigh and plopped down beside him, sitting with her legs crossed and hands in her lap with her tail still clutched between them.

He wasn't doing work. He was just sitting there. If they walked around more, maybe she could find some sort of food to eat. Her hand brushed over her stomach, mind wandering over how long she was just lying in that cell. She hadn't any clue, but she was kind of hungry. Realizing it just made the sensation feel worse.

"What? I... think it was... blue, maybe?" She frowned, trying to remember, then gave a slight nod. "Yeah... Why, what does it mean?"

Lake shrugged carelessly. "The hell if I know! But...it looks like everyone has one." He scratched his stubble thoughtfully, then ran a hand over his face, looking a little haggard. "Maybe someone can find some sort of corelation between the colors and the people who wake up in the rooms that have them. If that happens..." he frowned. "If that happens, it means someone put them there. Put either the people or the colors. Maybe both. Somebody put them there. And then...and then..." he paused a moment, shoulders slumping. "...They left," he finished lamely, sounding defeated. Apparently his train of thought hadn't carried as far as he thought it would.

He sighed, glancing over at her hopelessly again, his eyes narrowing as he caught her hand touching her stomach.

"Tch..." He wriggled a bit, leaning to one side and digging his hand into his pocket...a few moments later, he produced a small, freeze-dried packet with some sort of food supplement inside that.

"Eat that. Might as well get used to it. It's all you're gonna be eating around here." He rested his head against the wall again, determinedly avoiding her gaze. "It's not like you'll be any use if you pass out from lack of food."

Kira's hopes fell, and her shoulders along with them. She'd thought he'd have at least that bit of information figured out by now, since he'd brought it up. Though, she hadn't realized that every cell had a color. She'd been too busy running into people and being afraid of her own tail.

"Well, we know we were put here, at least..." she replied quietly. She definitely hadn't volunteered for anything. Her eyes drifted toward the doorway, staring silently through it. Having only recently awoken from a sleep that'd lasted who knew how long, she didn't feel at all ready to just settle down and take a rest. But, from her point of view, she didn't have a choice as long as he remained seated.

"What?" she blinked, ear twitching as he started moving about. She watched warily at first, until she realized what it was, and reached a pale hand out to accept it.

"O-oh..." she stammered dumbly, unable to help feeling surprised. The one constantly talking about people eating had handed her something that wasn't even meat. A second later, she had given it a cautious sniff, then peeked up again to see that he was staring away from her. A faint smile tugged at her lips, and this time she did decide to say it. "Thank you..."

He's not all bad...

She lifted the packet up, only to suddenly freeze, her eyes widening a little for the millionth time since she'd woken. When he'd spoken, hadn't she felt something.. move on top of her head..? Her free hand jerked, slapping almost violently down against the side of her head, flattening something furry beneath it. And she just sat there, staring blankly at the food, and mentally begging him not to say anything. But, she hadn't exactly been subtle, and she knew it.

"Hmph, maybe. But whoever it was, they took off without any explanation. Seems like they just dumped people here and left." He paused. "...Which works out fine for me. I'm not gonna be anyone's guinea pig," he added quietly. "...And I told you, I'm not feeding you because...because I care, or something dumb like that. It's just that you might actually be useful at some point. Might as well make sure you stay alive until then, right? You - hey, what are you doing?" He looked around at her in alarm as she smacked herself in the head. "A bug land on you or something? Listen, with all the roaches in this place, you're gonna have to get used to - hey, you're a kitty." He blinked at her. "...Right? Well...are you a mutant kitty, at least? At least then you might be able to do something worthwhile around here. You're not just a house cat or something, are you?" His shoulders slumped a little, and he looked unenthusiastic. "...That doesn't sound very impressive..."

She wished he would've just kept to the roach assumption. Though, that would've gotten more of a freak out than a simple slap.

"I-I'm not a kitty!" Kira cried in protest, trying to shift her fingers to better cover up the ear. She only had one, leaving her with a total of three, since the human ones remained in place. Her face twisted in a grimace as she recalled her brother's taunting, often involving the words "kitty Kira" in a jeering tone. At least he wasn't mocking her.

Hesitantly, her hand slid away, allowing the furry ear to pop back up, twitching and tilting toward him. Like the tail, it seemed to have a mind of its own, and also managed to make her look rather grumpy. "I'm not a mutant," she mumbled, though honestly she had no clue what caused it. "A-and it's not a house cat." She paused, eyes drifting back toward the claw marks in the wall, then fell upon her own, partially clawed hand. "...hey, tell me what you can do," she added suddenly, eyes leaping back toward him to stare rather intently. If he was getting to see all of her strangeness, she wanted to know something about him too. It wasn't fair.

"Suit yourself," Lake replied, glancing up to eye her single ear and then shaking his head. "Well, at least you - huh?" He tilted his head to peer at her, eyebrow quirked. For a few moments, he looked nonplussed, turning her words over in his mind...then, a slight sparkle gleamed in his eye, and his lips spread into a slow, smug smirk.

"Oh, I can do whatever it is you want me to do, baby," he purred, leaning against her again and grinning into her face, eyebrows wriggling. "Just name it, and we have a deal...hehehe..."

"Wh-what?" Kira stammered, looking bewildered at first when he suddenly leaned close. She stiffened and blinked, her ear flattening back, and soon realized it'd been her mistake. Why was the only other life around so perverted..? Death and perversion. And roaches. That seemed all he was able to talk about.

"That's not what I meant," she grumbled, her pale cheeks flushing a shade of pink. "Stop assuming things."

Her hand lifted, slender fingers pressing lightly to his cheek, guiding his head back to tilt away from her. "I meant why you're in here too."
