Leif's eyebrows rose as Meri introduced herself. She was a rather bossy Celph. Though it's not like he'd met any other Celphs. Maybe they were all like her. He wasn't sure and didn't really care to find out. One like her was enough as far as he was concerned. "Uhm...pleased to meet you too, I guess. Even though you threw a fish at me. Twice." His body had quit shivering and he was tremendously thankful for that. His wings were still a bit damp but with the fire now blazing they would dry in no time.
He stared into the fire. A million thoughts began running through his head about Meri and the Celph. Were there others around? What was she doing here? Was she lost? He didn't ask them, though. Curiosity may have been something he was afflicted with but he most never voiced his questions. He was an observer. He drank sights in with his eyes and they stuck in his brain. It was how he learned. It didn't help that his people skills were zero. Sure, he interacted with the other warriors but none of them were friends and they didn't really see each other outside of training. Leif much preferred alone time.
Leif's attention was drawn from the fire, and his thoughts, by Meri's voice. "Hmm?" He cocked his head to the side. She'd never heard the word ******** before? He supposed it was understandable. He'd not heard others use the word outside of his little warrior group. A foul mouth was a habit he had picked up from the older Garrion warriors. And it was one his father was not particularly proud of. Oh well. "Uhm. Well, it's mostly used to express anger or annoyance." He commented as he glanced back down at the fire.

Meri raised her eyebrow in disbelief. Surely the work '********' couldn't only mean that! It was too simple! Too...plain. She thought there would be more to it than that! The answer did not satisfy her one bit. She drummed her fingers against her cheek in thought. How could she draw out the complete meaning from Leif? There had to be more to it!
"How do you use it? And with what kind of anger do you use the word? Righteous anger? Anger anger? What about in annoyance? What sort of annoyance? What sort of situation calls for the use of this word? Judging from your hesitance at answering, it must be bad word. But what about it is bad? Could I use it in a good way? Is it a good way to offend someone? How badly could I offend them with this word?" Meri interrogated. The more questions she asked, the more she leaned forward and the more fanatical her eyes became. "Well?"
Over the years, the Celph had learned that most people only answered a question with the littlest and most general information they could think of. She eventually learned how to poke and prod at these people to volunteer more information until her curiosity was satisfied. Well, it was never satisfied. They just ran away before she could ask more questions. Then she would turn her attention to someone else in the immediate vicinity and proceed to interrogate them instead.
Meri's tentacles were nearly out of the water. She only vaguely noticed that she shouldn't be this far out of the water unless she wanted to risk dehydration. Well, she'd deal with it when the time came. For now she was pursuing knowledge!

Leif stared at Meri as she threw out question after question. Gah. This Celph was so nosey. He wished she'd just shut up with all the questions. Really, who asked that many questions anyway? It was just so unheard of. He let out a frustrated sigh as he waited for her to finish her interrogation.
"Annoyance. Anger." He stated plainly to her first question. Really, he'd use it again if he was sure it wouldn't just bring more questions out of her mouth. Gods but she was beginning to grate on his nerves. "Anger anger. Really, what's with all these questions?" Leif asked, deciding to ignore the rest of her questions. The truth of it was, he wasn't really sure what the rest of the meaning of the word was. He'd just heard so many adult Garions use it that it had stuck with him. Most of them had used it out of anger but he had heard it used in other contexts that completely confused the young teen.
Leif stretched out his limbs and leaned back on his arms. The warmth had finally flowed back into his whole body, including his wings. It made him feel less stressed. Though it was easily being replaced by the annoyance from all of Meri's questions. He decided that his own questions should be voiced. After all, it wasn't fair if she was the only one asking questions. "So what are you doing here? Don't you live in the sea? Where are your parents? Won't you get in trouble for wondering so far away?" He didn't let up until the last question. It felt so weird, asking so many things of one person. He was usually so quiet. He observed. He didn't ask questions. Usually didn't have a need to do so. So why now? Why with her? Leif wasn't completely sure so he kept rather quiet after that.

Meri was not satisfied. Half of her questions had gone unanswered and it would be nagging at her all day. She never left a question alone until it had been answered in some sort of way. Her body sagged to the ground in disappointment and it was only Leif's own barrage of questions that grabbed her attention once more.
If there was one thing she like almost as much as asking questions, it was answering them. She loved any opportunity to impart the knowledge she had learned on others. It was a wonderlful feeling. And who knows? Maybe the few seconds she spent explaining a concept would lead that person one step closer to being civilized. The world was lacking in civilized people these days. "What I was doing was eating my lunch. And then you came along and got me all suspicious. I don't think I have to explain further. As for living in the sea, I suppose I could." A pause. "The sea's very empty. Not interesting at all. I went once and I expect I lived there when I was younger, but really, there's not much to see in the open waters around here. I actually live by the lake up the river. Its very cozy and I'd much rather stick around here where there are an abundance of things to look at. As for parents..."
Meri stopped. She could not remember any instances of having an actual mother and father besides Vianya. And Vianya was most certainly not her mother! There was only one hazy memory that persisted in dominating her thoughts whenever she thought about parents. She didn't want to remember. So, she stopped that line of thought. It really wasn't worth mulling over, anyway.
"I don't remember having parents. I do have Vianya, though and she's all I'll ever need as a mother figure," Meri said. "As for getting in trouble. What a thought! I'll go anywhere I want regardless of the consequences. And if there were consequences for wandering so far away, I certainly won't be punished. I live a mere fifteen minutes from here. Not very far at all. And I do have permission to wander through as many of these rivers as I wish. Does that answer your question adequately enough, Leif Rune Erich?"

Leif huffed at the mention of her curiosity. Yeah, there was really no need to relive those moments to him. He remembered, quite clearly, as the fish was hurled at his face and the fall into the river. He shuddered as he remembered how cold his wings had been. He really did hate being cold. Shaking his head he watched Meri's face as she continued talking, only pausing once, to catch a breath.
There was something about her that seemed off. Like she was remembering something that had happened long ago and it wasn't a very happy memory. He didn't have many of those. His memories were actually pretty good, considering where he had been born and what had happened to his only family. Yes, he knew of his past. Jerrik had told him soon after he turned thirteen. Leif had reacted like a little brat. He's cursed at his father and called him a lier. Had even ran off into the woods, even though it'd been late at night. That had been when he'd learned to hate the cold water. Not wanting to remember what had happened he let out a tired breath. It really was getting late.
Leif stretched his wings out as Meri continued to tell him about where she lived. Fascinating. "I didn't know anyone lived so close to this place." He hadn't explored much and while he knew others lived on the island, it was still rare to run in to someone not from his village. He wrinkled his nose up at the use of his whole name. Why did she have to do that? He wished she'd just call him Leif but kept his mouth shut for fear of her going off on another speech of some sort.

Meri's expression became proud and she straightened her shoulders. Well. Straightened them more than they already were. Good posture was a sign of sophistication, after all. She had been better at hiding from the Common and Garrion not associated with Vianya better than she had thought. Of course, there had been a number of close calls. Meri remembered the time when she saw barnacles on the bottom of ship's hull and decided to see how much pressure it took to pry the things off. Her loud scraping and thumps had almost caused her to be discovered. But, she hadn't been discovered so she'd continued that activity with another ship. Fun.
When Meri looked at Leif again, she raised a delicate eyebrow. Why was he looking at her so funny? Was that Disbelief? Suspicion? Or..., she thought, horrified. Boredom?! She blinked when he spoke. It brought her out of a dangerous line of thought and focused her attention once more. Oh! Something to speculate! Really. Her ability to turn anything into a musing was amazing. It impressed even Meri herself.
“I've lived on this island for the past thirteen years. Quite frankly, I'm surprised I haven't been caught yet. I'm actually looking forward to the day some poor Common man sees me. I've been wanting to know what the reaction would be as I've heard the Common don't believe in my kind. Of course, I won't deliberately show myself,” Meri scoffed. Then she sighed. “But the temptation to see what would happen is great. I suppose I'll have to be content with throwing trash at people from the water. I've seen nearly thirty different reactions to that activity, you know. Including yours. You should try it sometime. Not only is it enlightening, but the entertainment is absolutely delightful.”
She loved confusing the wits out of the people at the docks. It was so much fun. She learned so much about Common behavior that way too. Simply nothing could compare to the reactions of a Common person. They were expressive. It was simply fascinating. Granted, so far, she had only seen outraged, confused or terrified expressions from them. But that was probably from what she threw at them. Dead crabs, squids, eels, slugs, parts of larger sea creatures...Speaking of Common...
“I've talked to or observed just about every Garrion person on this half of the island's inner area and just about the whole shoreline. Do you live deeper into the island? Farther away from rivers? Or are you some sort recluse who never leaves his home? That's rather unfortunate if you are. Life has much to offer, you know.” She wagged a finger.
