Almost all forms of IDs have all your information in them as it is. It's called magnetic tape (or something along those lines), the black strip on the back of your credit card.

That's not quite the same as having your DNA on file.

Obscurus That's not quite the same as having your DNA on file. Just a little further than having your thumbprints on file. In fact there are records of people's DNA, usually used for Forensic Science or other crime investigation needs. All the ID would be doing is identifying you without fail since it is your DNA after all.

A fingerprint registry is one thing, but a DNA database is one more blow to civil liberties.

Just like the Patriot Act is a security measure. One day we'll wake up and realize that we've given up our freedom in exchange for "security".

I don't see any freedoms being suppressed here.

Phukking Writch I don't see any freedoms being suppressed here. It wouldn't suppress freedom outright, but it's yet another infringement on personal privacy. It would be an extension to the explosion of electronic surveillance and civil liberties infringements that the Patriot Act allowed. By itself it's not very significant, but it's just one more brick in the foundation of Big Brother's power.

All your information? No. Just the information associated with the specific card. Also, all babies born in US hospitals since 2007 have their heel pricked at birth (without parental consent) and the babies’ DNA is stored indefinitely in government records unless you file to have it destroyed. You can not say no to this unless you have the proper forums filled out before birth. The DNA may be used in genetic experiments and tests. Of course they say the purpose is to scan for genetic diseases, which they do.. but it's obvious to me the reason this is mandatory is for future DNA profiling of all citizens. If any of these heel pricked babies commit crimes in the future, their DNA is already on record. The concern I have is with what type of experiments are they doing with the DNA. They're known to create fake pandemics, what if they use this DNA for something malicious like that? I'm not saying they would, but you can't say it's impossible.

It's been going on a lot longer than 2007, hun. You probably didn't even know it happened to you. Afterall, you're just an '80s baby.

It pisses me off when people are so against it. Every industrialized country has it and yet when we try to pass anything even remotely towards healthcare, people scream communism. That is bullshit.

Going back to the National ID Cards topic, wouldn't America's Social Security cards count as an ID Card? If you lose that or it gets stolen you've basically lost your life.

zombanie Going back to the National ID Cards topic, wouldn't America's Social Security cards count as an ID Card? If you lose that or it gets stolen you've basically lost your life. but a SSC or SIN is not necessary to carry on your person everywhere you go, just like your birth certificate, those documents are often left at home. they want a card that you keep on your person as ID. Right now in Arizona they are pulling people over, asking for their drivers license AND birth certificate, because they want to deport illegal immigrants. everyone is in an uproar cuz carrying all that documentation makes it feel like living back in time with the nazis. if you don't supply your birth certificate, they will arrest you! it's ridiculous, and i'm afraid they are going to offer national ID cards as the "solution".

National ID cards would be just another example of giving up liberty for perceived security.
