Grayson was not selfless. Grayson was not even close; Grayson had indulged his temper quite seriously just days ago, had embarrassed himself by letting go of the control he exercised so tightly over his temper because he had been hurt and he had wanted to stand up for himself even if it hurt Jude in the process. Grayson was generous, but he was not selfless.
He also did not like himself very much.
It was something that he struggled with, from time to time; it was easier to like himself when he was around others, seeing his good qualities reflected in them. Harder when he was alone, or fighting with someone, which happened so rarely. Suffice to say, Grayson had spent a lot of time alone, after spending time fighting with someone he truly cared about --
He just didn't like himself very much.
"I'll be back in school tomorrow," He said finally, not commenting on anything else. There was too much to say, and Ignacio wasn't the right person to say it to.

After a long period of silence, Ignacio couldn't help wondering if there were things Grayson just wasn't saying to him. Of course, the tone in his voice earlier hinted that there were things that he hadn't said. Couldn't say. Wouldn't say. Perhaps, that hurt the most. Ignacio trusted Grayson fully and Grayson didn't trust Ignacio nearly enough.
This would be an upwards battle, this Never and Awkward. "That's good to hear. We can eat lunch together then... I can try and catch you up on some work." What a detached topic. Ignacio's expression showed that this wasn't really what he wanted to talk about, but for the moment, he would respect Grayson's wishes and keep their topic just on this, even if he wanted to know what was going on in the dark-haired cutie's head.
...Dark-haired cutie. It was a stupid expression, but he could get used to it.
"And maybe, sometime, you can tell me what's bothering you. I'll be here to listen." Never and Awkward weren't going to win this upwards battle. Not while Ignacio had the reigns.

He wasn't sure there would ever be a time when he could talk to anyone about what was bothering him, but he appreciated the thought. He had already written in his diary until his fingers had nearly gone numb, and that would have to be enough.
"Lunch sounds good," Grayson ventured, cautious as ever. He really didn't have it in him for anything emotionally taxing, not just then. He saw the look on Ignacio's face, but chose to ignore it in favor of his own comfort.
Again, he really wasn't selfless.
"I'll probably need the help catching up on my homework, too." He always needed help catching up on his homework.
It wasn't much, Ignacio, but it was something.

And something was a start, even if this really wasn't what Ignacio was hoping for.
But to get over Never and Awkward would probably take time. He knew that this would be an upwards battle. It would be a hard upwards battle. But his eyes were on the prize, and Ignacio thought that prize was worth it. It was worth every ounce of effort he had to put forward to get the man that looked like he had gone through hell and back.
"Alright," replied Ignacio, with a light chuckle, "but I can't promise I can help all that much. Remember, I'm not really that good with work either."
It was a start at rebuilding, at least. It was a start to earning that trust back he had lost, and defeating Never. And, perhaps, that was the best Ignacio could ask for right now.
