Kalen//Edwin Roleplay

Edwin Kite
Edwin Kite was wearing a Styx t-shirt and dirty jeans, but what was really horrendous about him was his hair. He hadn't brushed it and it looked like a bird had decided to nest on it, had an epileptic fit instead, and then flown away.

However, this did not deter Edwin Kite from doing what he did every Thursday night at Café Voltaire, which was try to pick up women and read The Great Gatsby. He had it down to an art form, almost, not even putting down his book when he reached for his coffee and "accidentally" brushed against the woman next to him's hand. The only hiccup was when he looked up and said "Sorry." it was obvious he wasn't sorry. It was obvious that he was desperate for a relationship, or at least, please God, a fling.

In his current state, neither of these seemed likely to happen. This did not deter Edwin, who was currently "Sorry"ing the woman next to him.

She could tell he was desperate. She moved to another table.

Kalen Marcus
It was sad that even the wind had the effect of making it hard for him to walk. He was nineteen years old and barely weighed above one hundred and twenty five pounds, which was pretty pathetic seeing as he had been working out for months and months - without any noticeable results.

When he looked at himself in the mirror all he saw was a frame of skin and bones. He didn't even have the skinny people ables that most people his size did, the kind of abs that they never had to work for but were just natural. No, instead what he saw was his prominent ribs and nonexistant chest muscles.

He was deathly pale as well, his skin an alabaster white, no hint whatsoever of a tan. Instead he burned whenever he went into the sun, and because of his blonde hair that was almost white they often called him an albino next to all of the other horrible names they called him. He really didn't mind being called an albino though, it was the other names he couldn't stand.

So after a long period of standing in front of the floor to cieling mirror in nothing but a pair of boxers, he had decided to go to the cafe' down the street from his dorm room. It was windy outside, and it was batting him around like a stray feather.

When he finally got into the cafe', he sighed in relief after noticing it was so calm and warm compared to outside. He went up to the counter, ordering his favorite banana nut beverage, then went to sit as his usual seat by the window so that he could pretend to look at the magazines but really people watch.

It was while his blue eyes enviously followed a very muscular teenage boy that he first noticed the scent. It wasn't very strong, but it smelled of unwashed clothes with a hint of body odor and feet. He turned around in his seat to see a very unkempt young man with disastrous hair and dirty clothes. Looking at him, Kalen would guess that he was homeless, so he put on a polite smile and decided he mite as well ask. "Hey sir, do you need some money to buy you a coffee?"

Edwin Kite
Edwin had been offering to buy women beverages all day, so when he heard the voice offer to buy him a drink, he assumed it was a pickup line. Lowering his book a little too eagerly, he began to exclaim "Iwouldloveth-" until he saw where the voice had come from.

Oh dear God, he had seduced a gay man. Just his luck!

Clearing his throat awkwardly, he lifted up his coffee mug, saying "N-no, I'm fine, I have my coffee right here. I really do not need coffee, no, absolutely not." Leaning back on his chair, he thought of other ways to make it clear he wasn't interested, and added, "I was just waiting here for my girlfriend. Reading Fitzgerald."

"Chilling."

There was an awkward pause as Edwin tried to look everywhere but at the boy, which wasn't that hard, considering he was skinny as a rail. He was so unnoticeable that he was practically noticeable for not being noticeable. However, eventually Inner Edwin got the better of himself. He had been too proud to meet up with any of his old friends in his state. At least he wasn't too proud to talk to this strange kid, even if he did try to hit on him.

"You?" he asked casually.

Kalen Marcus
It wasn't until then that Kalen noticed that the man already had a cup of coffee as well as a book in his hand; he had been too distracted by his rather shabby appearance to notice anything else. Oh well, atleast he had done his good deed of the day by atleast offering.

Seeing the uncomfortable look on the man's face, however, he was a little confused as to why he was acting like that. Was it because he had offered to buy him coffee? That was when he realized it, what it would have looked like a young guy like himself offering to buy another guy a cup of coffee.

Oh sheesh, he thought he was hitting on him!

He didn't have a girlfriend either, but he thought this little lie wouldn't really matter right now, it wasn't like the two of them would ever come across each other again anyway, plus if it would make him more comfortable what problems could it cause?

"Oh, that's nice, my girlfriend couldn't come with me tonight, so I'm just hanging out by myself for the moment. And that's a really good book you're reading, I hope you enjoy it. Well I saw the movie anyway, I haven't exactly read the book, so I know the general idea of it, and I really liked it," he said shrugging it off like it was no big deal.

"College is on break, though, because the summester just ended before Christmas, so I'm just waiting to sign up for my new classes, it can be rather tedious. Do you go to school here as well?" he asked though he highly doubted it. He was sure he would remember a hobo that went to school there, or that hung around begging for money.

Edwin Kite
"That's a shame." Edwin said casually.

'Girlfriend'. Right, kid, right. At least he seemed to be getting that Edwin didn't roll that way though, and the Girlfriend bit was probably to bow out gracefully or something. As long as he didn't try to pull a fast one on him, Edwin was fine with that.

At his comment about The Great Gatsby though, Edwin grit his teeth. He was a literature major. Saying 'I saw the movie' made his teeth gnash. "I've read this book approximately forty eight times." he announced smoothly. "I'm glad you liked the movie." God, college kids. Youth was wasted on the young.

Not that he was exactly a senior citizen at 23, mind, but he certainly wasn't college age anymore.

The thought of the glory days made him antsy though, so he said "No," a little too quickly. "I'm a traveling professor. I go around and make sure people read at least a book a month and return their library books on time." he lied.

He certainly didn't look professorly. He wasn't even wearing matching socks.

Kalen
Ok, so what the heck was this guy's problem. It was easy to tell from his face and the way he spoke that the man was skeptical about his sexual orientation. Yes he was skinny and probably looked submissive, plus his voice, which had never been very deep, didn't help out, but that didn't automatically make him gay.

Not that he had anything against gay people. He had known many very nice gay and lesbian people before, and they were to be respected just like every other person, but that didn't mean he wanted to be labeled that way. He was about to make it pretty clear that he wasn't gay when the guy started bragging about how many times he had read the book.

Before he could say anything more, then the guy started saying he was a professer, and he couldn't help but snort loudly, covering it quickly with a cough. This rough stranger a professor at the college? Pfft, yea right! If anything he was a hobo! He looked like a hobo, with shabby looks and dirty clothing.

For one he knew all the professors at the college he went to pretty well, he even had an uncle that was a professor at the college in the next state over. He had grown up with professors all of his life, and he knew their attitude, and this guy was nothing like them. Professors were serious, well kept people that were passionate about the things they taught - well most of them were anyway.

If this guy was really a professor, he would keep himself clean and wouldn't smell like a dirty gym sock. For now he kept his mouth shut, deciding the guy was hiding that he was probably homeless; most likely he was embarrassed about his situation, hell, he had been too embarrassed to admit that he was single, so he understood the need to hide things. "Oh wow, a professor, what colleges have you visited before now?" he asked slyly.

Edwin Kite
"Oh, this and that." Edwin said airily. "I never pay attention to the name of the college I go to so I don't get intimidated. That way if I happen to lecture at Harvard I can be brilliant without feeling the need to try harder at it."

He leaned against his chair and slurped his coffee and (oh God, oh God), swung his feet up onto the table. "What college do you go to, kid?" he asked. "Maybe I'll be able to psychically deduce whether or not I lectured there. If you haven't read Gatsby though, I really sort of doubt it."

Edwin Kite was weird. But more than anything else, Edwin Kite was weird about The Great Gatsby.

Kalen Marcus
Alright, so far this hobo was a complete and utter fake. What kind of college professor that supposedly lectured at places like Harvard, dress like he lived on the streets? It was obvious he didn't bathe regularly from the stench emanating from where he sat, as well as not washing his clothes, for they were covered in all kinds of nasty stains.

He wasn't gay like the man tried to make him out to be, but he did care about what he looked like and what people thought of him, probably cared too much. Kalen knew it shouldn't matter what other people thought about him, but he just couldn't help it. Every time he heard them whisper, or giggle behind his back, he just knew it was him they were gossiping about.

This guy could seriously learn a lesson from him, but he looked too set in his ways to ever listen to someone he deemed beneath himself. "I go to the college just down the street, you know the name," he shrugged, not bothering to say the title of the school and wondering if the guy actually did. He probably didn't, but whatever, he was tired of this guy being so condescending towards him.

"Currently I'm going through a few culinary classes and courses so that I can be a chef in an Asian restaurant. I know I'm not Asian," he mumbled, gesturing towards his deathly pain skin and white blonde hair, "but I love Asian food, its my favorite thing to cook, and I'm sure I can get a restaurant to hire me once I have the proper licences and whatnot."

Edwin Kite
"I used to like cooking Asian food." Edwin said offhandedly. "These days I like ordering Asian takeout."

He only cooked when he had people to cook for. As evidenced by his messy apartment and 'I've been a bachelor for about a year now' hairstyle, he hadn't had anyone to cook for in a while. "I could probably challenge you to a cook-off, but that would assume that I still cooked."

"Which I don't."

Somehting seemed to be bothering him now, he seemed considerably less cocky and cheerful. "Anyway, you'll probably make a great cook, and all that s**t about hard work making dreams come true." Edwin had heard it when he was the kid's age, so he might as well to his bit to spread the propaganda. "Anyway, I have to go home, not shower, and sleep. I've got a lot of lecturing to practice, and, quite frankly, being a genius is exhausting."

He looked over at Kalen and flashed him a smirk. "Be seeing you, kid." he said, then left. Unfortunately for Kalen, his odor stayed behind for a few minutes.
