But she was going to worry, and if she wasn't trying so hard to be as undistressing as possible, she might have cried harder at that. Watching Grayson try not to watch her was painful, so she took another deep breath and said, "I'm okay, because you're okay, so I can be okay." They were fine. So fine that Jude was...
Jude was really mad.
Why was he so mad? Obviously the scary redhead didn't do anything to her except punch her. A lot. But he was still so mad? Really, Elke could handle it, she knew as well as anyone how well makeup hid bruises. Serenade didn't even know about the whole thing. (Elke, in her passionate fear of Hero, was convinced the Captain knew. The Captain was everywhere. The Captain was omnipotent and omnipresent. You could hide nothing from The Captain.)
"Y-yes," she said, drawing out the word and making it a question. Then there was a little girl, and Elke...
...Elke's eyes were the size of dinner plates, which were bigger than luncheon plates but not quite so much bigger. "Jude, that's really not such a good idea," she said, but too late; Sagittarius was already standing in front of them. Her eyes might fall out of her skull if they got much bigger. She got up, throwing Grayson an exasperated look--what an idiot was their Jude, really, she was fifteen and that was too young to be mothering anyone especially Jude. But she was picking up the little girl, patting her back, forcibly burying her face in her shoulder. "It's all right, he's not dying, he's just an idiot sometimes, he'll be just fine when he wakes up. He's really tired, and he's not feeling too good because of it. If you call someone and tell them he's Robin Hood, they'll take him away. Please be quiet, it's all right!"
She looked at Grayson, clearly saying what do I do?

Leave it to Jude to create a commotion in the middle of the hospital. Grayson watched, wide-eyed as he attempted to storm out and right into battle again, which he did not consider the wisest move all things considered, only to be stopped by a tiny girl. Grayson watched with wide eyes as the scene unfolded, Elke tried to help, only to have a nurse come around the corner and quickly get the situation under control. Grayson merely lifted his shoulders helplessly, beginning to feel drowsy, despite having just woken up.
He swung his head around, peered at his IV. Was he on an automatic drip of pain medicine? Maybe. He certainly felt sleepy.
"He'll be okay, Elke," Grayson said, with the dreamy quality of someone who was suddenly getting tired. It was a voice that was normal for him on a good day, because he often napped when he didn't have anything else to do. "I'm tired."
He shifted, dragging his hands across his hospital blanket, and watched with bemusement as the nurse called for back-up, hoisted Jude up to get him back in bed. They were discussing something -- transferring him? -- and Grayson became vaguely annoyed.
He still had to talk with Jude, after all.
"I need to speak with him," he tried to tell the nurse, a frown on his face. He went unheard.
So, he turned to Elke, insisting, "I need to speak with him."

The nurses having deprived her of the little girl, interrupting her monologue, she returned to her chair next to Grayson. Her eyes were at least as wide as her brother's as she watched the goings-on, a little bit stunned and all the activity and... Elke did try to get the nurses to leave Jude, but they were busy and fussing over everything in the world and didn't hear her.
So she returned to sitting in her chair, took Grayson's hand again and hoped the nurses didn't try to kick her out, too. "I'll talk to them after I go," she said, "but they don't seem very happy with Jude... You should go to sleep, Grayson, you need to sleep to get better."
Fussing came naturally to Elke; she was standing up and fixing his covers again, watching his face carefully to make sure she wasn't hurting him. Unfortunately, the fussing came with a downside in that Hero would probably hear about the whole Robin Hood Is Dying incident.
Probably. If she remembered.
She sighed and settled down next to her brother, his hand back in hers.

He curled his fingers around Elke's hand, settling back into the pillow with a weary sigh. Jude would insist on causing trouble for the nurses, and he would get tired sooner rather than later. To be fair, he had been visiting with his parents for the better part of an hour before Elke had even arrived, but still. He would have liked to stay up a bit longer with her.
Closing his eyes, he moved his tongue around his teeth, realized vaguely that it had been a while since he'd brushed them. "I'll sleep, but don't stay too long, Elke."
He shifted a little, mostly in the shoulders, and a faint frown crossed his face. "Don't want you wasting all day here."
His voice was drifting to a murmur, because it never took much provocation for Grayson to sleep, and he had the added influence of painkillers and a tiring morning to edge him along. It wasn't long before he'd fallen asleep once more, subject to his own troubled thoughts and disjointed dreams.
