Stargarden thought maybe he had spoke again, and it was coming from the creature's mouth. Didn't he just say that? That was a neat trick! "Yes, isn't that what I said? Maybe it was what she thought was too much work for a doe! So she twisted the truth to get what she wanted."
Stargarden nodded, bending down to take a drink of the water under him. All that speaking was drying.

She jolted, noticing the repetition and having to nod to agree, "Yes, yes. That's right, you did. I suppose that's right... but I still don't know... There was one last part of the story that I was confused about..." Though the doe agreed with what the buck was saying, something at the back of her mind was telling here that there were errors in all that was being said. An uneasy feeling of 'wrong' began to seep into her mind, but she tried to push it back.
"She got away from the family, by inviting herself to the Summer Flower Festival, and running away with a handsome buck that she met while there. But for the life of me... I can't remember why the buck would want such a creature to be with.... nor can I remember his name... Oh, this is all very frustrating."

Stargarden having quenched his thirst rises his head from the water's surface and looks back at the story-telling creature. What he was hearing seemed right, but he found himself also wondering why someone would run away with such a creature.
"Perhaps she was extremely beautiful," he said. Like many flowers, even though you know they have thorns that will hurt you, their beauty propels you to touch them regardless. Like his moon, even though it was so far away, the distance would not stop him from trying to reach her.

"Hmmmm...." She mulled over the suggestion, and couldn't come up with any sort of argument for it. It made sense, it really did. How many times had she seen a buck fall for something beautiful, or a doe strain with all her might to get something that caught her eye.
"Well, that brings us right upto the happy ending of the story, the best part. Ahhh..." Webweave audibly sighed as her mind floated away to happy thoughts about everlasting love and finding that one forever-partner.
She took a step forward, just past the tangle of roots, tilting her head up into the sun's warming rays.

Stargarden shook his head. He didn't think it ended happily at all!
"Those stories never end happily. One of them surely got bored of the other. Perhaps, he would not do all the work and she got fed up, calling him just like her brothers! Or maybe he left her, saying she was too lazy."
The bird on his head chirped, and he looked up. "What this? You think the buck went to slay a fiend in the outskirts of the swamp and never came back, leaving the doe to wait for her happy ending that never comes?"
Stargarden had a long hmmm noise as he looked at the other, larger bird.

She took a step back at the buck's sudden outburst, not that she hadn't expected it, she merely was not prepared for another argument, as she had been sinking into her happy thoughts.
"No, no, no. I'm positive it was a happy ending!" With a stamp of the foot, the doe grew irritated, emotions quickly escalating. That feeling of wrong was overtaking her, having finally broken free. "It had to have been a happy ending. What kind of a story ends sad or mad? It is not right for a story to end in tears and death and cheating! Just unacceptable. It doesn't happen. No, no, no." She shook her head some more.

"You were wrong several times already, just because you say it is, it doesn't make it so."
With that, he turned his nose, unmeaning as he looked around for any signs of Bites For Fun. Then he turned back.
"Oh, I'm sure the brothers and father were sad and in tears after having their sister and daughter run away without a goodbye." This was his way of proving his point. It was just what she said couldn't be in a story! But it was, just hidden away so it wasn't apparent!

"I'm not so sure that you were right, either! I don't think this sounds right, not at all."
Another stamp of the foot as her anger began to boil, warming her from the inside out. The sun had also made it's way out by now, and was beginning to shine down upon the swamp. Webweave did not want to spend any more time her drivelling on about the smallest details. She didn't think that the details they went over sounded quite right.
"No, I won't hear it! There was definitely a happy ending, lots of flowers and beautiful babies running around." She shook her head, "It's time for me to go now. Time for me to go figure out what really happened in this story, sir." As she began stalking in the opposite direction. She was very upset, more-so than she had been when she started. Her thoughts were still jumbled but now she was angry at the situation, and figured she should go off and have a cool bath or a short run to calm down instead of standing her and bickering with another. She would sort this out on her own.

Stargarden didn't get a chance to calm the little bird down before it stormed off after its argument. She really wouldn't hear it! I guess the bird was hungry, he thought. It was really the only explanation the buck could think of that would cause an animal to flutter off while having a perfectly fine conversation with someone.
The bird on his horn was chirping. Oh, the bird didn't fly away from him! Instead it just migrated onto his horn. Completely forgetting that this bird had been there just before he met the other, he assumed that this bird was the bird that was conversing with him shortly before.
Turning toe, he swayed through the swamp waters, between the groves and fallen branches creeping over the water's surface. "Will you accompany me through the afternoon as well?" The buck asked quietly, tilting his head up to the bird. The bird seemed to approve and the buck continued on.
"Once upon a time there was a doe with a kind step-father and three gentle step-brothers..."
