Howl frowned slightly, he still hadn't quite forgiven Darcy for bringing him to Gaia. "Yeah, I did," he said, forcing a smile. "I assume you did too?" Interesting, he decided. Maybe she did come from another world, then. He thought it would be rather rude to ask, though. "I don't like Darcy much," he said.
"A moose?" Howl asked with the interest a child gives a scary story. He'd never actually met a moose before, and if one had exploded in front of him, he would have found that quite frightening. He decided not to say anything more on the subject. He followed the boy to the children's books. "What books do you think a toddler would like?"

"Yay! We came from the same place! Did she make you too or did you come from somewhere else? I heard things about her bringing kids from other places but I dunno. She made me though. I think anyway." Julie said, getting a little motormouthy. But she was a toddler so that was expected. "Oh, you don't? I don't think my mom does much either. Mommy says she was a bad word about time."
Phineas nodded, "Yep. That's why I'm a moose." the boy agreed, as if that were totally obvious - which, it sort of was.
THe boy peered around a bit. "Well...there's always fairytales? Those have some of the prettier illustrations." he suggested, showing them to the display of the books.

Howl's smile faded, and a rather sad expression replaced it. "I came from another place," he told the cheerful toddler. "I know I wasn't made--I doubt she could make someone like me." His oversized ego was showing again. He forced another smile. "I think I agree with your mom," he said. Ugh. Darcy. He'd get his revenge, eventually.
Howl nodded at Phineas, before pausing. "Fairy tales?" he echoed, wrinkling up his nose. "Aren't they for girls?" Fairy tales? Who needed them? They were always about love and princes and princesses and kisses. "How about Beatrix Potter or something? Peter Rabbit and whatnot?"

Phineas snorted, "Howl, Julie IS a girl. Remember?" he pointed out with a grin. "She's the toddler here so finding books she'd like is okay."
The little one giggled a bit behind her hand but smiled at Howl. "Peter Rabbit? Is he a bunny or is that just his name?"

Howl paused, and gave a sheepish grin. "I knew that," he said. He looked to Julie and gave a more genuine smile. "Peter Rabbit's a bunny," he said. "He gets in all sorts of trouble. He really likes to steal radishes from gardens. One time he lost his jacket and the gardener used it for a jacket on his scarecrow. Benjamin Bunny's his cousin--"
He paused, and realized he was rambling. "Maybe I should just let you find out on your own."

The little girl giggled. "I wanna hear that story. I like bunnies." she agreed.
Phineas nodded, "Julie'll love the illustrations. Beatrix Potter draws really nice detailed pictures." the moose commented, searching through the shelves for something in particular. "Tell me if you see the Miss Spider books over here, Howl. I think Julie will like those."
"Ooh, spiders! I saw one once. It was crawling outside. But some boy smooshed it and that was mean. It wasn't hurtin him." Julie said idly, following after Howl to look at the books.

"I like them too," Howl said with a nod. "Just not when people are pulling them out of hats." He rather thought this was an insult to wizardry in general. Of course it was, even the youngest apprentice could do it. "Miss Spider?" he repeated; those books were too recent for him to recall; certainly they hadn't existed in Wales almost thirty years ago. "I'll look," he said, looking to Phineas.
"I like spiders," Howl said vaguely. "They are very useful, and more talented than most humans will ever be. If their web falls, they try again. Each time they make one, it becomes increasingly beautiful. No person could ever make something as beautiful as a spiderweb. I don't think anyone should ever hurt a spider." He paused, and put a finger to his chin as he looked to the bookshelf. "I'll curse anyone I see harming one. Maybe turn them into a spider, and see how they like it."

"Mm spiders are interesting, I guess." Phineas agreed, "I generally don't bother with them though. They mind their business and I mind mine."
"That's a lot to do." the girl commented, looking at the pictures to see if there were any in pretty colors or with nice pictures on them that might be nice to hear. "You'd have to make lotsa magic to do that. Mommy says magic was a big deal where she came from, but here it's normal. I can do magic, but it's not much."
