Shadowed Moon smiled, it seemed he had found a good nest after all since she seemed pleased to see it. As Last Whisper approached the tree and placed her hooves against the trunk it seemed she was to short to reach the nest. She turned to him and told him that it was good, they could probably find feathers up there.
His smile widening he stepped closer to the tree and placed his own hooves up against it. He examined the nest for any outside feathers before stretching up and trying to get a better look at more then just the bottom. All the white down probably meant a light colored bird but he couldn't be sure. Some birds had black feathers and other colors as well, so white down could lead to an interesting surprise.

Excited that they had found another nest that looked hopeful, Last Whisper had adopted a smile and a twinkle in her eye. Her tail twitched back and forth as she watched the blue buck come closer, stand upright, and then stretch upwards to take a look into the nest.
At times like this, she wished that she were taller. Things would be a lot easier then... She shook herself off, ridding herself of these thoughts. It didn't matter. She was who she was, and she could accept that.
She brought her hooves back down to the ground and tilted her head back, waiting patiently for Shadowed Moon to bring the feathers down.

Shadowed Moon could see at least five large feathers in the nest and a multitude of smaller ones. They varied in color but none were that dark. Reaching his head in he grabbed a few of the longer ones gently and pulled back setting them on the ground. "There's still a few more. It'll take a few tries." He then went back up and grabbed the remaining large ones to set in the pile.
After then he continued his moving a few more times with some of the smaller feathers before he got some down in his mouth. Coughing and sticking out his tongue he tried to wipe it off on his leg. After a few moments of struggling with that he looked up at Last Whisper and smiled. "Do you want me to get some more, or is that good?" There probably was some more feathers hidden but he didn't want to risk more down unless he needed too.

She nodded and waited patiently as the buck brought down feathers for her from the nest she couldn't reach. She was itching to search through them and pick out suitable candidates, but she restrained herself until he stopped to rid himself of the down in his mouth.
"No, no, it's alright. Let me take a look through these...." She poked her nose into the little pile, shuffling them about gently to spread them out. SHe picked out a few broken ones right away, but as she pulled back to look at the others she continued, "You were taking out down... so I don't think that nest will have any more...." There was a nice red feather... and a pretty blue one, along with a few white ones that were not quite as long, but definitely still useful. The longest one she found was a grey one, which she now pulled out and mumbled, "I was hoping there'd be a black one in here..." A little disheartened at not having found a long black feather, she shoved her nose back through the feathers that she had pushed over. Perhaps she had missed one...

Shadowed Moon nodded as Last Whisper began searching through the pile, she found several interesting ones but as she pulled out a grey one she seemed disappointed. It seemed she really wanted a black feather. Smiling he looked up while she continued searching to try and find a hint of black in the trees. Walking away from her he continued to stare at the tree branches, occasionally leaning up against a tree to get a better look at the color of the feathers in that nest.
He hadn't noticed the fact that there were babies in one nest, which caused a rather angry mother who had just returned from searching for food to dive bomb his head. Quickly retreating from the tree the bird swooped a few more times, squawking angrily. It was black. He sighed, the bird hadn't dropped any feathers in it's fury because of his fast retreat and he wasn't to eager to go digging through a nest full of babies.
Pondering what to do her walked around the tree looking for any that may have fallen, seems however this bird kept a tight ship. He couldn't find a single feather. Glancing back up at the nest his tried to approach slowly while the bird was feeding but it noticed and gave him the evil eye. He backed away and the bird went back to it's business. Approaching again he tried to sit still as the mother bird continued to feed it's babies.
Suddenly the black bird flew out of the nest quite startling Shadowed Moon who thought it was going to attack him again. As it flew off he thought he saw something float out of the nest. Watching as it fell he realized it was a feather! The bird must have caused one to fall at it's quick departure! Watching as the shiny black feather floated down he gently grabbed the thicker part in his mouth as it came to a rest on the ground. Making sure to not be to rough with it he watched his step as he walked back over to Last Whisper.

Nosing through the pile once more, Last Whisper does not notice Shadowed Moon wander away. Flipping them over and over a few times, she manages to rescue two more white feathers, small ones, but still suitable for finer detail cleaning, she would think.
A squawk behind her flicks her ears over first, but then she turns to look, a feather held in her mouth, to see what it was. Slightly surprised, Last Whisper gazes upon a blackbird diving and swooping in at Shadowed Moon repeatedly, obviously trying to get rid of him. He seemed to be handling the situation though, so she simply turned back to her collection for one last inspection.
After having gone through them, she had to admit that there were no more worth saving, so with a sigh, she bunched them up before going to pick up the feathers she had chosen to put away. Gently, one-by-one, they go into her log for safekeeping, and by the time she is done with them she half-turns to look for Shadowed Moon, only to find him approaching her with a black feather in his mouth!
Her eyes lit up and sparkled at him, wide and happy. She trotted a few steps over to him and drew to a stop to admire the feather. She tilted her head this way and that, looking at it from every angle and she inquired softly, "How did you find such a beautiful black feather?"

Shadowed Moon smiled gently as he stopped by Last Whisper, she almost seemed to glow with joy as she spotted the feather in his mouth. Looking at it from several angles she quietly asked how he found it. Gently setting the feather down at her feet he watched as the light reflected off of it. Looking into her eyes he smiled, his mouth was now free to talk so he could answer her question without risk of harming the precious item it had held.
"I knew how much you wanted one, so I went looking." Blushing a little he motioned to the blackbird's nest with his head. "I was looking through nests when I found this one. The bird attacked me before finally flying off for more food." As he said this, the mother bird came flying back into the nest and the babies began to cry in hunger at her. "When she flew away one of her wing feathers fell down to me, almost like a gift." He smiled as the bird began feeding it's hungry young. Turing back to Last Whisper his smiled widened. "So you like it?" He asked shyly, looking pleased with her joy.

She watched the male gently lay the feather down on the ground and then followed his gaze back up. There was a slight tinge of pink to his cheeks, but why she could not fathom. He spoke of the bird, and of it's attacking... that sounded familiar.... Oh! That's right! She remembered that she had heard some sort of scuffling a little ways off, but she had been too busy riffling through the feathers to pay proper attention to it. That must have been the cause of the sound!
She smiled even wider, her eyes shining brightly as he finished speaking. Softly, she responded, "Thank you so much, Shadowed Moon! It really is truly beautiful! The rest of my collection will be envious of such a thing!" And with that, she gingerly picked up the feather and took her time gently sliding it into the log-necklace. Turning towards her den, her eyes found the buck's one last time as she bid farewell. "I thank you once more, Shadowed Moon. I would not have been able to get these feathers on my own. Perhaps we shall meet again in the future. Travel well." One more smile, and she began stalking away, eager to get home and sort her newest treasures.

As Last Whisper's smile widened and her eye's brightened at the end of his story Shadowed Moon felt even happier. At the doe's soft reply his face broke out into a very wide smile. Nodding in response, he was almost lost for words at her praise of the gift. As she slide the feather into the log at her neck he watched the delicate process. Her eyes met his once more and Shadowed Moon felt pulled into those bright red eyes.
As she thanked him again he smiled and nodded. Muttering something about it being no problem and he was glad to help. As she bid him farewell he smiled again and his smile nearly broke into a happy grin as she smiled at him. "I do hope our paths cross again." Was all he managed to saw as she left, seemly eager, he assumed to examine her new additions to her collection. Smiling to himself Shadowed Moon took his own way, the doe flitting through his mind, much like the lovely black feather he had given her.
