Aylee tossed the baby boy up into the air. It wasn't usual for her to spend any time with Yasushi at all, but the boy was over a year old, now! She was starting to get a bit concerned (which in turn bothered Chaco as to why she hadn't been at all concerned BEFORE then). It was like Solo's stunted growth all over again.
So when Christmas arrived, Aylee decided it was time to take some personal time with the little one. This involved a three week vacation to... well, to ANYWHERE that wasn't freezing and snowy. She made extra sure it was some place tropical.
Chaco was really jsut along for the ride. He didn't WANT to be there, and shirking his Breeder duties was getting to him, but Aylee wouldn't take no for an answer. He just naturally figured that the only reason he was along was so that Aylee could push off taking care of Yasu onto him.
They had now been there for a week (having left the day after Christmas), and so far his protector hadn't pushed Yasushi off onto him once! Oddity of oddities, she was actually caring for the baby of her own!
This was very odd to Chaco, who had never seen her give his... er... older? brother even the time of day. Uhm. If he'd been able to ask for the time of day, anyway, she'd not have given it to him...
But now she was playing with him as though it was something they did every day! It unnerved Chaco, and he stood up. "Hey mum...?"
Aylee caught Yasushi and pulled the baby into her arms, "Yeah?"
"I was wondering... Why do you never spend any time with any of the children you have? I mean, until they're kids or teens?"
For a moment Aylee stared at him as though she didn't understand him, and then she looked at the ceiling, "Well... I've never really been too good at taking care of kids. It... I mean, I like children, but I'm usually inept at taking care of them. It was a blessing that I got Solo when he was a toddler..." She glanced at Chaco for a moment, "I mean, even you I accidentally dropped once when you were a baby."
This made the Sin'aeis boy wince. If she'd dropped HIM when he was a baby, then why was she tossing Yasushi up into the air?! "Mum..."
"That's not the only reason, of course. It's... I think in some odd way I treat my kids like pets... At least until they're kids. Er. Like... I forget to feed them and such like that. Er." She decided not to mention that she'd actually first noticed this bad habit with Chaco himself. "It's better if I let someone else take care of them until they at least have the sensibility to ask me for food themselves."
Chaco glanced to the baby in her arms. Yasushi was already beginning to fall asleep again. Somehow he guesses the unsaid, that Yasushi hadn't been how Aylee realized a few things about herself. He also guessed that laziness factored into it a lot, even if his mother wasn't willing to admit it.
It seemed as though Aylee, too, had noticed how sleepy Yasushi was getting, and she moved over to the bed and set him down it it, tucking the blankets around him.
"You know, it's not good for a baby his size to sleep in a large bed like this," said Chaco, one eyebrow raised.
"You've been telling me that for a week now, and I fail to see how it's harmed him." Aylee turned and smirked at the Sin'aeis boy.
Her teenage son stood there blinking at her for a moment, then shook his head, "Fine, but if he gets hurt, don't come running to me..." And with that, he turned away and stalked out of the room.
Aylee watched after Chaco for a bit, a smile on her face. It was amazing how jealous her son could get when she took care of her children on her own. How odd.

Aylee yawned and leaned back in her hotel room chair. Chaco had taken off for a few days, to check back with his charges at the Mansion. Overall she was enjoying her vacation, although sometimes she worried about the fact that Chaco had left Yasushi in her hands.
Well, there didn't seem to be too much to worry about. Yasushi seemed to sleep and, well, sleep. That was puzzling, really. None of her children had ever slept as much as he had.
Maybe it was what asian badgers did? There was no way for her to know, really. She let her eyes roam to the bed where she'd left him sleeping. The look on his face was so peaceful...
She probably should have spent more time with him, she knew that. But he'd been her first child after Solo, someone who hated her presence. It was difficult to pull herself out of the mentality she'd developed for dealing with the Fa'e.
After a moment of thought, she stood and pulled open the curtains, letting bright sunlight into the room. Yasu stirred in the bed, pushing himself deeper under the covers.
"Oh no, none of that. I've let you stay inside for most of this trip, but dammit if I'm going to let you turn into an antisocial creature. We're getting out and about!" With that said, she scooped to sleepy child up into her arms, grabbed her purse and room key, and flounced out of the room.
--------
It wasn't long before Aylee located someone to talk to. Admittedly, she wasn't exactly a social wizard herself, but at least she made an effort sometimes. The woman she had come upon had two rather pudgy children of her own. a few years older than Yasushi, sure, but children nonetheless.
"Hiii!" Aylee called out, catching the woman's attention. She had been expecting something frendlier than a scowl, but that's what she received.
"What do you want?" snapped the woman irritably.
This was a bit puzzling to the young girl, not used to people other than her family being downright rude, "Er... I was actually looking for someone to talk to, and this kiddo here," she indicated Yasushi with a nod of her head, "could use someone to play with."
For a moment the woman looked at her as though she'd just stepped in something rancid, and the glanced down at the baby in Aylee's arms. "Oh my GOD..." she backed away a step, "What in heaven's name is THAT ugly thing?!"
Aylee pursed her lips for a moment before speaking, "What the hell do you mean ugly? Yasushi is cuter than your two pudgy brats!" The asian badger squirmed in her arms, trying to block out the sunlight. It was keeping him from sleeping!
"How dare you insinuate that my children are anything less than perfect angels!" snapped the woman.
Aylee raised an eyebrow, "I'm impressed. I never expected anyone like you to know a word like insinuate." The woman opened her mouth to protest, but Aylee cut her off, "In any case it's probably better I don't LET Yasushi get involved with your children. I don't think I could ever afford the amount of food you feed those two, so I don't want him picking up any nasty habits." And before the woman could say another word, Aylee turned on her heel and stalked back to her hotel room.
NOW she remembered why none of her family was very social. It was simply easier not to be. After all, when you had to deal with people like that otherwise...
She shut the curtains and laid Yasushi back down on the bed, pulling the blanket over him, "Forget everything I said earlier, kiddo. Just go back to sleep."

Dear Diary,
Wow. I just managed to find this thing in all my mom's stuff. We're doing spring cleaning around here (which seems quite weird to me, seeing as how it's totally not spring), and so all the rooms are getting an overhaule. Today we were working on the attic. We'll probably be working on the attic for a few more days, seeing as it's ginormous, and I'll probably find a lot more stuff.
We seem to have a lot of stuff.
Solo says we should just throw it all out, but we're finding some really interesting things up there! He and mom keep fighting over the stupidest little things. Mom won't let us throw most of the things out, which upsets my brother. Chako is getting annoyed at mom too. Apparantly I'm the only one who has no issues with keeping everything. I mean, our house is more than large enough to keep all of these things without any issues. We've got more than a hundred rooms, and mom's laberatory is the same size as one floor. Same with the attic. This house hasn't filled up yet.
I'm not really sure how journal entries are supposed to go, you know? After all, I've never written in one before. Solo would probably yell at me for my spelling. Or grammer. Or both.
I've been getting really good at kicking my soccer ball around recently. But there's no one to play with. I can tell Klause would like to play, but he laughs every time I envite him to a game.
Mom keeps saying she's gonna enrol us in a private boarding school, but she hasn't done it yet. Maybe cause it's summer? I kinda want to go, because I know there'll be more people my own age who like to play soccer. I need people to play with!
Maybe I can trick Klause into playing! I know he'd injoy it. It's a good game, after all! But being the only person in your house who actevly likes sports is difficult... And I dont really know anyone else.
I have to go now. Mom wants me to help her move something, and I guess Solo and Chako are both refusing to help.
Later!
Yasushi Shiroko

(( Cross posted to Cyrus/Casper's and Klaus's journals ))
It was a long train ride. Klaus hadn't expected it to take this long, and he had spent the last hour trying to figure out reasons why Aylee hadn't let them fly. Then he'd remembered who was actually on this little trip. Casper and Cyrus alone were reasons not to fly.
In fact, Klaus had taken the liberty of locking the two in a compartment adjacent to the one he and Yasushi were currently in. It was the easiest way to keep them out of trouble, and Klaus wasn't really looking forward to dealing with the twins after being locked in a small room for hours on end, but they WERE out of his hair.
He missed Wes. Why had Aylee split them up, anyway? She should know what it's like to be apart from your twin for any amount of time.
Well, it was too late to do anything about it now.
Yasushi was staring out the window, an equally bored look on his face. The other boy was probably so used to being outside that sitting still like this was probably a shock. Well wait until they actually began school. It was all ABOUT sitting still there.
Apparently Yasushi had noticed him staring, "Is there something wrong?"
"No, nothing. I was simply lost in though, that is all."
He wondered what Wes was thinking about right now...
"Hey Klaus?"
Yasushi was watching him. "Yes?"
"I was wondering something. I've... Seen you watching me play soccer sometimes. If you want to play, you should come downstairs. I wouldn't mind the company."
Klaus was silent. He hadn't expected something like that. Of course, he knew that Yasushi had seen him staring on more than one occasion, but he didn't think his cousin would actually mention it. And he didn't really have anything to say in response, so he just kept quiet and stared out the window.
Yasushi seemed to get the point, and also began staring out the window again.
The entire train trip lasted a total of six hours, and Klaus was bored for all of them. He could tell Yasushi had been too. But finally the ride ended with the train pulling into the station, and Klaus moved out of the compartment and unlocked the door to the room he'd put the twins in.
As soon as the lock was released, the door shot open and the twins ran out. Even with them moving, Klaus could see that their clothes were rather ruffled, and their hair was a mess. They must have been wrestling or something similar.
Yasushi tried to stifle a laugh as Klaus glared at the two. Aylee had left him in charge, and until they got to the school he wasn't planning on letting them run amok.
But first... getting on the train. The green haired angel turned to Yasushi, "Keep watch of Casper. I will look after Cyrus. The last thing we need is the two of them getting lost in the station."
Yasushi nodded, and the four exited the train. Klaus immediately grabbed Cyrus's wrist as the boy attempted to run off. A glance backward told him that Yasushi was doing something similar with Casper. Well, at least he was reliable.
Apparently Aylee had arranged for someone to come pick them up at the station, but one glance around made it apparent to Klaus that it was going to be harder to find that person than he'd expected. The station was huge, at least twice the size of the one back home, and Aylee had almost gotten them lost in that one.
Well, they'd better start looking. Fortunately their luggage wasn't too heavy, and once they started moving, Cyrus and Casper settled down as they tried to take in all of the sights.
It took more than half an hour of looking around to find their ride, a nervous looking woman holding a sign that said 'Shiroko boys' on it. Klaus and Yasushi shared a nod and the group moved toward her. The girl perked up at their approach.
"Are... are you Klaus? and... Ya... Sushi?" she asked, obviously hesitant about the pronunciation.
Yasushi smilled at the woman, "I'm Yasu. This is Klaus, Cyrus, and Casper," he nodded to the others in turn.
The woman grinned timidly, "Right. Uhm. I'm Roberta Finch. I'll... uhm. Be your escort. My. Uhm. Car is over here." The woman started to lead the way out of the station.
Klaus shut his eyes and rolled them behind the closed lids while walking. This woman wasn't going to last ten minutes with the two twins. It would be a miracle if they got to the school without crashing.

(( Cross posted like previous post. ))
Yasushi hadn’t been expecting the boarding school to be large, yet it was nothing but. There were four dorm houses, two buildings for the classes, and a library larger than the one in the mansion. Not to mention the multiple sports fields. How much time would he end up spending outside, he wondered.
Well, that wasn’t the first thing that needed to be done. First they needed to be checked in to the school, though Yasu knew that was probably not the best way to word it. Klaus had been silent ever since the car ride here, where he’d spent the better part of the ride trying to keep Cyrus and Casper from causing any problems. Or just getting them to shut up, because that had been difficult too.
The ride itself had been long, or had seemed it. The school was far out in the country, after all. During the ride, Yasushi had questioned the reason for having it so far from anything else, as it could potentially cause problems.
His thoughts aside, the walk from the car to the main office wasn’t very pleasing either. Both Yasushi and Klaus had to keep their eyes on the twins, else they vanish, off to explore on their own. And having the twins vanish would NOT be a good thing.
Finally they arrived at their destination, and Roberta Finch seemed to sag in relief. She’d been tense ever since they had entered the car, though it was a typical reaction from anyone who was in close quarters with the twins. “Through here,” she said and pushed a door open. It led into the secretary’s office, where two women were talking.
The taller of the two had long red hair and was wearing a pink business suit. She had glasses on her nose, and was holding books, papers, and a binder in her arms. The other woman had her short blond hair tied up in a high pony tail, and was leaning back against the secretary’s desk, laughing.
The blond was the first to notice the group, “Oh! Hello,” she said, her laughter stopping and her tone becoming authoritative, “Are you new students? Though I thought there were only supposed to be four?”
Roberta laughed slightly and indicated Yasushi and the others, “These four are the students. I’m simply their escort. Uhm.”
Thinking on it, Roberta’s nervousness reminded Yasu of Chaco. They both had that whole ‘please don’t let me say something wrong’ tone to their speech.
The red haired woman looked the four children over and smiled, “My name is Sarah Winslow, and I’m the art teacher for grades two through five. It’s nice to meet you.” Her eyes wandered to Klaus and Yasushi, “You two look old enough that you’ll be in my class,” they shifted to Cyrus and Casper, “You two, however, will most likely be under the watch of Caroline Maybell, the art teacher for the lower grades.” A smile spread over her lips, “Try not to give her too much grief.”
Perhaps not the best thing to say to the twins, Yasu thought. Upon those words leaving the woman’s lips, he could just HEAR the cogs turning in C&C’s heads.
“Well, I’ll take my leave of you now. I do have a class to teach, after all!” And with a final smile at Yasu an Klaus, the art teacher slipped out past them and out into the hall.
Yasushi’s attention switched back to the blond woman as she moved behind the desk and started looking through her files. For a few minutes everyone was silent (with the exception of the sound of papers shuffling and Roberta shifting from foot to foot incessantly). Finally the blond pulled a few folders out of her stash with a triumphant look on her face, “Here we are!”
“Now lets see, the students today are Cyrus Shiroko and Casper Shiroko,” the twins giggled in response to their names, “Yasushi Shiroko,” Yasu nodded at her when she looked at him, “And Klaus Shiroko,” Klaus showed no reaction.
“It looks like... Three of your are brothers, and... wait, this makes little sense.” The woman went shuffling through the files again.
“Miss, can I explain?” said Yasu, grinning, “I get the feeling you’re confused about our relationship.”
“Well, yes. It says you’re cousins, but...”
“Here’s the thing,” Yasushi said, “My mother, who is also Cyrus and Casper’s mother, is named Aylee Shiroko. Now, Klaus’s guardian is our mother’s twin brother. His name is also Aylee Shiroko. It’s a bit complicated, but that’s the gist of it.”
The woman stared at him for a moment, “Doesn’t that get confusing?”
“Nah. We’ve adapted. Mum is the only one anyone refers to as Aylee. Everyone calls her brother Kunny, to avoid any major confusion.”
“Ah.” She seemed satisfied by this, and put her files back in order, “Certainly not the weirdest arrangement I’ve heard of.” After examining the files for a moment, she nodded and looked at them, “Alright, Cyrus and Casper will be in Miss Carver’s kindergarten homeroom, room B 108, the school building on the left. Klaus and Yasushi will be in Mrs. Wales’s third grade homeroom, room A 217, the school building on the right.”
She shifted a few more files, “You’ll all be in the same dorm, names Symphony House. It can be found on the left, close to the softball field.” Once again she glanced the four students over, “Any questions?”
“Well...” Yasushi stared at her, “I have one.”
“Go ahead.”
“What’s your name? You haven’t told us yet.”
The woman was taken aback, “Oh! My sincerest apologies. My name is Janet Snowe, and I’m the head secretary to the school’s office. You’ll end up meeting the other officials over time, I’m sure.” She offered him a smile, “Is that all?”
“Yes, thank you,” said Yasushi.
“Alright...” she pulled a set of keys out of her drawer, and took three off the ring, “Here are the keys to your dorm rooms. Cyrus and Casper will be in one, and Klaus and Yasushi will be in separate rooms. You two do have room mates, however.” She handed them their respective keys, “Don’t lose these, now. It’s a ten dollar fine if you do.”
Finally she pulled a few brochure-like things out of her desk, “These are maps of the grounds. In it you’ll find a diagram of every floor in every building.” After giving them to the four as well, she smiled at them, “Your classes will begin at eight thirty tomorrow morning. Please don’t be late.”
And with that, Roberta escorted them out of the office.
