Her conflicting emotions hadn't gone unnoticed and initially he had thought that her flushed features were down to anger. He had been rather abrasive and it was only fitting that the rather sheltered mare would react with hostility. However, no sooner had he readied himself for some sort of insult he was greeted by something that caught him off guard. She didn't attack him, she didn't abuse him, instead she seemed to rein in her temper and she merely nodded. What happened next should have floored him if he were more of a simpering male but instead he bawked as she expressed gratitude for his honesty - granted she just had to add in a little jibe at the end but the rest had been rather bearable.

He needed to back track.

...Had she been subject to a personality transplant within the last few minutes or something?

"My brother always sounds insistent," Fenghuang's tone was flat, almost weary. Years in the company of his brother had made his demands and general temperment routine. Ambroise had been much more angry than normal but he had never been one to waste time, he had set routines and expected soquili to do as they were told with a click of a hoof. Unfortunately, Fenghuang had never been one to abide by his brother's rules (as even Lizzy could attest to) and a few more moments of delay wouldn't hurt. If anything, the firey stallion could put his delay down to stubborn mud and point out that he wanted to be spotless for the meeting with his parents. His brother would know he was talking nonsense of course, but he wouldn't be able to dispute it provided that Fenghuang was indeed as clean as could be!

"In fact he is just as nitpickety as he sounds," he shrugged loosely as though unconcerned by it all, his mood still wasn't great but the more foul aspect was dissipating. Perhaps Anelisse's decision not to cut through him had removed some of the tension but he was in a much more contemplative mood than he had been a few minutes ago - worse still, a hint of his impish nature was threatening to creep up too. However she caused paused for thought when she answered his question and his impish nature was hushed for a few moments longer as he mused over her words. What did she mean 'she didn't know'?

"Maybe there's hope for you yet," he mused quietly a small smile teaching his lips. "Although how you intent to help me bathe is a rather curious thing, I know you were more than willing to offer your companion but you personally - humour me in this?" Perhaps he had gone too far in this but if he didn't get his answer he was fairly she would stop off tutting, most likely muttering something to the affect of a lack of decent manners and perverted tendencies.

She most certainly had NOT had a personality transplant, but she supposed that being collected instead of gratifying Feng's inherent need for her to fly off the handle had the same effect. It took effort, but she was actually quite proud of herself for her restraint. Added bonus, it kept her clean and mud-free, if his past behavior was any indication. And to be honest, it was actually quite freeing to be NOT yelling. Though she wasn't going to deny that she didn't want to kick him just now, thanks very much.

And she wasn't going to gratify his 'maybe there's hope for you yet' comment with a response, or she might give into that desire yet. It would be a pity to ruin this excellent meeting by kicking him.

Instead, she merely gave him a bemused look, shaking her head at his query. She wasn't sure if he was being sincere, facetious, or deliberately obtuse, but she would humor him at least a little bit. It was much nicer to be talking in a friendly fashion than crying, and he now seemed to be in a much cheerier frame of mind than earlier. Maybe he too had wanted to talk.

"I MEANT that I would help you by leaving so that you wouldn't have to wait any more to get yourself clean and fulfill the duty that your insistent and nitpicky older brother expects of you. You said yourself that you didn't have much time to talk." A pointed look accompanied that statement, then a smile crossed her face as well as she followed up with, "And fyi, being helped by Raccoon IS being helped by me. Surely you don't expect to scrub you in your condition. Or any condition, for that matter, as a horn is not the most helpful for bathing purposes. The offer of Raccoon remains open, though; you've got a great deal of filth to clean up."

She did not just say 'FYI' did she? He stared at her increduously for a few moments before letting out another bark of laughter. He hadn't heard a mare coin that phrase before, oh he'd heard of it but he hadn't anticipated that anyone would use it. His smile became more genuine and he cleared his throat. She certain chose her moments and she came off with a few gems now and again, he had suspected as much when he'd met her before but it was only now she was proving it. Ah, but such a shame it was that he had been summoned and it would be on pain of death that he failed to make himself known in a sufficient amount of time. He estimated he had a week and a half at most to make his trip and with winter closing in, his arrival was going to be a tight one - alas, he could handle that one with a wry shrug and then deal with his mother.

...Hopefully she'd be her usual self once he was home, he just had to apologise, right?

"Shame, shame," he murmured and released a small, wistful sigh. She hadn't taken his remarks with offence and had rather carefully deflected them. A haphazard shrug followed and he began to place his weight back on all fours, there would be no more slouching now that she seemed to have finished with her chat and to be frank, he needed to make his move. Still, it did put him in better form to know that he may have cleaned the slate a little, she may not have appreciated his gesture but at least she wasn't hissing and spitting in the corner anymore. "As I said before I don't need the help."

"But thanks anyway," he gave his legs a shake one by one and arched his neck, once done he gave her a nod and perhaps the reassurance she might have been looking for (even if she hadn't admitted it). "You don't need to leave, I don't intend to stay here to bath and I doubt you'd appreciate the smell when it's all coming off anyway," he smirked at this, aware that he already stank to high heavens. "Enjoy your day, princess. Let's hope it's a little less noisey than it was at lunch," he would have provided her with a bow but he couldn't perfect a 'sweeping' motion in his current state and instead he provided her with another nod before sauntering off.

...May the gods help whichever unfortunate souls found him by the lake while he was bathing!
