Funding was the one word that everyone in Model UN went to great lengths to avoid talking about. Club dues would pay for pizza at meetings and the district provided buses for local competitions, but when it came to going to New York, let alone Europe, funding was definitely a question. "Some of it comes from our parents," nodded Tallulah, "Or from student jobs."
"But we really try to find a corporate sponsor," she explained. "A company that'll pay for us to do stuff in exchange for a tax write off."
Last year, the Meadowview High's Model United Nations had gone to competition with club shirts co-opted by the logo for Destiny City Cement and Gravel, ltd., which had been memorable but a bit surreal.
"It is neat," emphasized Tallulah, lest Aggie get the idea that MUN kids were a bunch of hopeless nerds.

Hopeless nerds was the farthest from what Aggie was thinking of the MUN kids; corporate sponsors and trips?! This model UN was obviously a huge thing, the sort of club the leaders of tomorrow and the cool kids were engaged in.
Seriously.. New York? Europe? Surely they could use another member, right? And she did know an awful lot about some of these places. Surely that had to count for something!
"That sounds.. w-wow." Aggie looked at her new friend with the shining eyes of a true fan, "You guys must be so popular! D-do people like, have to compete to enter your club and everything? I mean, wow, trips! And you guys are all friends, right?"
It sounded like Nirvana.

"Oh, no," blushed Tallulah, "We let everyone join, we're not exclusive." She was happy that Aggie was excited about starting at Meadowview, but hoped she hadn't built things up to be far more exciting than they were - that would be a let-down for sure!
"We're all friends, right," she assured the other girl. (This was true most of the time, although no club was without its share of drama.) Her eyes drifted a little bit, resting on the tray on the nightstand. "Ohmigosh," she exclaimed suddenly, leaping up. "I have to keep delivering lunches! I'm sorry, I've gotta go! I'll try to bring you a sprite or something later. It was good to meet you, Aggie!"
She hurried towards the door. "I'm sorry to run out like this, I'll see you at school!"
She really was sorry. Very, very sorry. Aggie must think her so rude!

"B-bye!" Tallulah had been awfully nice and quite good at distracting the boredom; and starting at a new school didn't seem so bad now that she knew people there (well, knew Tallulah there already - Azzo would start soon, like herself, and probably some other Barren Pines kids, and they'd definitely be easier to make friends with with the whole 'shared pain'-thing, right?).
And she'd definitely be looking into this model UN club, too. Was already looking forward to it, in fact.
