"How do you reprimand your commanding officer? You just can't, and I hate that. I don't begrudge her that role, she has to deal with Sagitt-- Well. I guess she enjoys that." Aurelia awkwardly leaned in to Elke. She was going soft.
"I just don't understand how someone I've known for all these years can act so differently. I just never expected it from Miss Barrett, do you know what I mean? I depend on her to act in a specific way, and now she's acting like a completely different person. I always admired and respected her, she has a lot of strength, you know? But now... now I can't? And its a horrible feeling, and probably unfair of me as no one is infallible but she always felt just like that. I don't know Elke, I don't know."

"We could ask the Princess, but..." Elke didn't want to bother the Princess with what was, essentially, inter-guard dynamics. You didn't tell the Princess when things were practically exploding in your face, after all, it seemed kind of hypocritical and totally beyond the point of the guard. They guarded the princess from danger, and danger could be a lot of things.
Plus, Elke liked the Princess best when the Princess was happy. Everyone should like the Princess best when the Princess was happy. "I don't get it either," she said, patting Aurelia's hair; "I thought the Captain was infallible, too."
Hero: Omnipresent, omnipotent. They just went together, like white rice and curry. Like grilled steak and garlic. That was how the world worked. And if Hero wasn't being Hero, well. Any day now she would wake up and she'd be eating, she didn't know, noodles with her curry.
"Maybe it will sort itself out," said Elke. "Hero's really, really good at doing the stuff she's supposed to do, which I guess means she can't ignore the stuff she absolutely isn't s'posed to do for long. Do you think we should try and do something about it?"
