Regardless of what anyone says, cloning is an exploit that the gamemakers didn't intend to be part of the game, hence considered being hacked and considered illegal. Just because its harder to tell if the poke in question is hacked doesn't change the fact that someone gained an additional pokemon through legitimate means. The reason why I don't trade with those that clone is because I feel cheated when trading others. The time invested on my part to either breed or catch that poke far different then those who abuse that exploit. The time exchanged doesn't seem right.
Not to mention, if a person plans to abuse one exploit, who is to say they won't take it a step further use
another one, along the justifying their usage.
I understand the notion of not wanting to part with event pokemon, especially being rare and all, but if the community is going to be flooded with more pokemon, doesn't that make them less rare and special?
As far as I know, our guild's stance is that cloning is still considered hacking. As long as person admits to doing as such as well as doesn't use hacked or exploited pokemon, they are still welcome to compete in our guild hosted events.
1. If exploiting the glitch counts as "legitimate means", why is it illegal? (Unless, you meant to say "ILLEGITIMATE")
2. Hacking and exploiting a glitch are two different things (at least, I consider it so). With the former, you're directly changing the game's code. With the latter, you're exploiting a bug/glitch found in the game.
3. Even if you traded originals, the time exchange may still not match up. Someone may have a really good pokemon that didn't take as long to acquire as it took you to acquire yours.
4. Self restraint can keep one from "going one step further". I know one guy who breeds legitimate pokemon and trades off clones of them. That's it. No hacked stats, OT, moves, nothing. He just clones the pokemon he breeds.
First off friend, your first argument stands on a typo I made, meaning you are arguing over the sake of semantics. After all, I am pretty sure you and everyone else knew what I meant to post. Stop being a grammar Nazi.
To your second point, I do agree that there is a difference between a hack and exploit. Despite that, it still doesn't change the fact that you are still exploiting the data when the game wasn't design for as such, meaning... cheating.
To your third point, It is true that the time may not be in sync as often, but I still would rather want someone to take at least some effort to acquire that piece of data (that at least took longer than maybe 2 minutes) especially if its a rare pokemon being caught or acquired. Also to point out, why should it be consider fair in a trade if one plays the game fair and one cheats?
As for your final point, I think its quite absurd you would consider one who has self restraint as being negative. If anything, it would be considered more of a virtue. As pointed out before, if one person is capable of cheating in one aspect, who's to say they will not take it a step further, justifying every action? Judging the online experience, the poke communities' battles and trades are based on trust of all the individuals participating. If any of that trust is to be question even slightest, it would lead to giant flames, name calling and other useless banter as well as feelings being hurt. This is why complete "self restraint" be plausible as well as widely accepted to prevent such grief.
Also to add to my rebuttal, I understand the notion that its easier to use such exploits to keep valuable pokemon one obtains (whether they be event, shiny, or have great IV's). But if you are going to that extent, why not just drop the game cartridge and just go and play shoddy battle?
@Gaara: Sorry friend, for I forgot what you wanted me to call you in the previous threads.
razz Anyway, i concur with your comment.
