Merriman ignored the name calling for once, too absorbed in the tasty fruit to respond right away.
"Yeah, well, maybe I'm just, you know, the tastiest."
He looked up at her and shrugged, starting to walk slowly down the street. "Or whatever, I don't know................... thanks. I guess."
He grumbled out the last part quickly and quietly, rolling his eyes.
"What? You ain't gonna find a dog around here. Dogs aren't for keeping."
He smiled and gnashed his teeth, before taking another huge bite of the apple, talking with his mouth full.
"They's fer eatin'."

Laughs, sticking her tongue out in mock disgust. "No way, you're way salty tasting." Follows after him, keeping a few paces behind.
"What, you don't think doggies are cute? I saw a big pack of wild oness the other day but... had to stay out of there way, for sure. They were hungry lookin'... but no way would I eat a dog, you would eat a dog?" Dogs were actually pretty common, though it was true most of the less street smart ones quickly disappeared.
"Hey, I was wonderin'... your part merfolk and all but... you don't have a fish tail so like... what's up with that?"

"I'd eat anything, when I'm hungry."
He paused and wrinkled his nose. "I taste salty? Maybe it's cuz I like to put salt on my oatmeal. But Dogs are alright, I guess. I just couldn't never keep one so there's no use wanting one. I'd probably just have to eat it anyways even if I could."
The apple was pretty much demolished by two bites, but Merry ate every last bit of it, dropping the core in his mouth and only pausing to pluck off the hard, woody stem.
"I don't have a fish tail cuz I wasn't born with a fish tail..... so I'm unlucky cuz I wasn't born like Mama and 'm ugly so I'm no use."
Merriman didn't seem bothered by this, actually, but in fact perked up, stuffing his hands in his pockets and slows a bit so he can walk next to Page, resuming his earlier dirt-kicking activity.
"Merfolk and people don't often mix well. Had a sister but she was born wrong 'n died. Fish tail and lungs, but no gills, couldn't breathe in the water. Drowned."
He didn't seem bothered by this subject either, only shrugging absently.

Listens absently, picking at something that was caught in her braces. She didn't want to get too far from the brothel but just far enough that no "customers" would come looking. It was actually a rather quiet night, hardly any sounds about, which was a bit unnerving. Morbus was truly a city that never slept, so why was it so quiet? No yelling or screaming, no gunshots. Page frowned and looked up, sniffing at the air. A thunderstorm was coming, that was for sure.
Page waited for Merri to finish, smiling over at him. "Yer not ugly, Merri. I don't think so. You're cool.... so... what're we gunna do then?"

Merri looked away from Page and rubbed his nose, sucking in air annoyingly. If the compliment made him flush any it was hidden by the tint of his skin.
"Yeah... sure... well...." Merri looked around, thinking. There was plenty of stuff to do, really. They could find some kids who were gambling and watch or join in, or they could go look for food- but Merri wasn't actually hungry, didn't feel like doing it tonight.
"We could go watch the fights." He said finally, shrugging. "Maybe Mihail's fightin' tonight. He's a vamp like you but he's big and dumb. He usually fights at this place called the 'Semetary,' you ever heard of it?"
Merri scuffed his foot against the ground, shrugging again. "You gotta be careful nobody grabs you but it can be kinda fun. Some of 'em are good fighters.."
Merri looked up and Page and grinned slowly. "Some of 'em even get their heads ripped off and stuff like that."

"Yeah, yeah, coursse I know 'bout it. Hard to miss the smell of all that blood at night. Never really went to look though urr... din't want to go by myself. Soundss fun though, let's go! How far is it?" Page looked up to the dark sky. No stars, there were hardly ever any stars. The smoke and muck hung over the city constantly like a dirty blanket that provided no warmth. But the rain was coming, she could smell it. It would be nice to get some rain, wash away some of the filth, clean up the air a bit.
"We should hurry, only got so much night left, and s'gunna start to rain for sure... I didn't know you had another friend who was a vampire. He help you find food too?" She was picking at her teeth with her tongue now, thinking.

"Meme meh meh meh." Merri mocked, sticking out his tongue. Of course I know 'bout it.
Rolling his eyes, he turned and pointed down the street, his other hand on his hip. "That way. It's not too far, really, specially if we run a bit."
Merri couldn't smell the rain, just had to look up and try to tell if the clouds were rain clouds like most everyone else. He was so far out of what would even be close to his 'natural element' that senses he might have otherwise had were dulled or non-existent.
"Yeah, well, Mihail's stupider 'n a brick, most times he brings me food but sometimes he doesn't, and he always bites me anyways. He ain't bad but he ain't good either. I like you better, I guess." Merri gave Page a cursory glance before he took off at a sprint down the dark, quiet street, his dark clothes and complexion blending in with the shadows of the night and somewhat hiding him from sight.

Page ran to catch up, easily keeping pace with Merri, enjoying the feel of running. She was pleased, maybe because he had said he liked her, even if it was in a backwards sort of way. She wasn't sure how she felt about going to the Semetary but if it meant hanging with Merri for a bit more it seemed fine. It was nice to have a friend. Lately her life seemed caught in repetition. This was all brand new.
Page shivered as a habit more than a necessity, a few drops of rain starting to drizzle down. "They have fightss every night? How they find enough.... enough people to fight? Who want to, I mean."
