Elke tucked against him in a hug, he was free to scowl, as she wouldn't be able to see it. He really didn't like his uniform, and he could not wait until graduation when he could get rid of it and never look at the thing again. Better yet, never wear another pair of red shorts again, and never have to fall asleep on a desktop again.
Well, unless he went on to university. But he wasn't really leaning toward that, if he was completely honest, and he was still kind of trying to keep that to himself. His parents wouldn't be pleased, considering both of them held degrees, and he was pretty sure Elke would be less than impressed as well. Everyone had such high expectations, he thought with a small, internal sigh.
Then he remembered Elke had asked him a question. He wasn't sure what it was, but he decided it couldn't be too terrible, so he said easily, "Sure, if you want."
It was a pretty standard response, so it ought to fit the situation. Probably.

She smiled into Grayson's shirt, pleased by the permission to grab a part of one of his uniforms. Granted, she was confident he hadn't really been listening to her; that was usually how it went, but she had his permission and she was sure if she said she did and wasn't lying, he'd believe her.
He usually did.
"Okay, I'll grab that before I go, then. Thank you, Grayson!" She disentangled herself, beaming, and then hopped back up on the counter, kicking her feet against the cabinet. They were bare, except for her socks; the sound, therefore, was muffled. "Eat your pizza before it gets cold, I know it reheats well but really, you're just being silly!" Elke took a hearty bite out of her piece of pizza, for once unconcerned with ladylike mores.
After swallowing, she sighed. "I guess we should let everyone else have some too, huh?" Her tone was pretend regretful. Everyone knew she always made enough pizza for everyone present at home.

Needing little more provocation, Grayson picked up a generous slice and held it high above his head, munching on it Ninja Turtle style. At Elke's comment, he lifted a hand, a lazy indication of I'll do it as he began to saunter out of the kitchen. Elke always made enough pizza for everyone, even when she was feeding a houseful of men, so he wasn't too worried. Still, he knew Tristan would complain at the top of his voice if he didn't get it while it was hot, and his parents would be less than impressed as well.
Swallowing, he called out, "Pizza." and stepped back. Moments later, there was a thundering on the stairs, and Tristan whizzed by, offering Elke a Yo as he picked up a piece in each hand and threw himself into a kitchen chair. He wasted no time on conversation, eating like he hadn't done so for weeks, as Grayson's parents approached in more leisurely manner.
Van rested a hand briefly on Elke's shoulder, saying, "Thank you, Elke." as he got a plate for himself and his husband. Apparently, the only civilized Graves were the elder ones.

She fluffed up the ends of her hair, giving Grayson a chiding look. That was just asking for all the cheese to slide off right into his face. One day, it would happen, she was just waiting for it. Probably she would laugh, and then help him clean up.
It was not this day, apparently. He went to call in the rest of their family; Elke cut more slices of pizza. "Yo," she said to Tristan as he sped by, her expression a little bemused. It cleared up into a grin; he always did this, and it was a confirmation like no other that she really was home. (It was like teenage boys were endless black holes. Hee.)
"Hi Pop, Dad," continued Elke, smiling up at them from her spot on the counter. Wait. She'd forgotten; was she allowed to be on the counter when people were eating? For a moment, she frowned, and then decided to stay put. Everyone else was taller than her, except when she was sitting there. "I hope I made it all right," she sighed.

No one commented on Elke sitting on the counter, so they probably didn't care. Or, perhaps, they were simply too glad to have two of their children home safe and sound to bother with it. Surely the rules would be firmly back in place soon enough.
Sitting across from his brother, elbows propped up on the table, Grayson continued to eat his pizza in silence. It was a fairly normal day, and everything felt... right. That should have unsettled him a little, considering all that had happened, but he didn't let it.
He simply enjoyed the peace while he could.
