Patting his pockets to make sure he had his iPod and wallet, Grayson followed Yvette off the bus, nodding and smiling to the driver as he went. The mall was reasonably crowded, which was normal for the time of day as well as day of the week, and his stomach rumbled at the thought of the food court. First stop, definitely something to eat. Then he'd find the music store, no problem.
Hopping off the last step, he shuffled into place next to Yvette, glancing over with a half-smile. "I'm going to go get something to eat. Are you hungry?"
Grayson was always hungry, so it went without saying that he'd want food. In his experiences, girls were not the same way, but he figured it didn't hurt to ask.

In all honesty, a small part of Yvette was hungry. She really was. However, she only had a small amount of money, and she really couldn't afford to just spend it anywhere. She could hear her mother also scolding her for spending money unnecessarily when she could have waited to get home and heat up some leftovers for snacking. Leftovers cost nothing, where as a simple drink at the mall cost at absolute least a dollar.
"I... um... I d-didn't bring enough money with me to get any food here..." she offered honestly, still clutching her possessions up against her body. Technically, she didn't answer the question, and she realized such after the fact. If she answered that question though, especially after her previous response, she would just sound like she was begging for a handout. She did not want to sound like a beggar!
As she tossed these thoughts through her mind, her face gradually grew a bit pinker in color. Eventually, she came up with a solution.
"It was nice running into you again, Grayson!" Yes, chickening out was the best solution she could come up with. None could ever accuse Yvette of being a brave soul. She lifted one of her hands (still using the other to hold her items up against her) for a simple wave and offered her usual small smile.

Grayson blinked. "Oh, I could buy. I got paid, so it's no big deal."
It wasn't forgotten that Yvette wouldn't share her hot dogs with him, but the simple fact was, Grayson didn't really care. He wasn't a particularly vengeful man under most circumstances, and he didn't believe that you should hold people's mistakes over their heads for the rest of their lives. So she hadn't shared... so what? Sharing what he had came naturally to Grayson, and it was no trouble to him.
His brow furrowed a little as she waved, though. "Unless you're in a hurry? That's all right, too." He didn't realize he was giving her an escape route, but he was, in fact.

"W-what?" It took mere seconds for the girl's face to match the color of the fruit she was so badly allergic to. Strawberry red Yvette.
Her tiny voice was tripping clumsily over itself, her brain acting far faster than her lips could even attempt matching. "Oh... o n-no... I r-r-really... I-i couldn't!" Her hands attempted to wave in front of her to signal she was not interested, but they practically flopped around like dying fish instead. "I c-couldn't p-p-pay you b-back, a-and then d-Daddy would g-get ups-set a-and..."
It was about this point her voice failed on her, completely evaporating, leaving nothing more than a flustered girl who was insistent about not taking a hand out. However, out of all of the words she managed to get out before her voice failure, she had not even mentioned she had been in a hurry. It wasn't on her mind, because she really hadn't been in a hurry to begin with.
Her hands eventually admitted defeat, ceasing their silly flopping about, leaving a very red girl standing right in front of Grayson.
